Great Experience at Butterfield 8 3/20/2009

I worked with the manager to organize a surprise 30th birthday party at Butterfield 8 in November and am just now getting around to complimenting her. She was totally helpful and offered many options for our party. We could have the back room (must spend a min amt), reserve several booths (no fee), and order some food. We reserved a few booths and they were cool about me bringing a cake I made. The staff was really nice, totally available when we needed them, but not intrusive. The bar is a step up from my usual ""dive bar"" hangouts but not much more expensive. It was a really great surprise party (even though the bouncer accidently asked the birthday girl if she was there for the surprise party--oops!) and everybody at Butterfield 8 helped make it special. Pros: Accomodating Staff, Classy Place, Not too Pricey Cons: Gets Crowded Late more

slow service 11/29/2008

i was really excited to go here since the pictures of the restaurant looked awesome, so my friend and i decided to ht this place up for the dine about town week during lunch. i would have to say the service is slow as hell and the food wasn't even all that great. i think we all ordered the rib eyes. eh, i don't think i'd ever pay that much for food here. more

The food is TO DIE FOR!! 10/30/2008

Top five favorite places to eat in NY .... yes that's right top FIVE! :) Pros: food, ambiance more

Never knew about the Restaurant 8/7/2008

So I went to Butterfield on a recommendation from a friend for dinner and i honestly had no idea it was a restaurant as well....ive been there for drinks with friends..(great time by the way)...but never for dinner...i must say i was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was completely different from its normal wild bar scene. My girlfriend had the Tuna and I had the rib eye...UNREAL! the food was cooked perfectly and the service was great....The waitress was great and really knew what she was doing...To top it off i had the best dessert ive ever had...COOKIE only advice is get so excited that i have a new favorite restaurant. Pros: Private Dinning room, food, service, COOKIE SMASH Cons: i cant have dessert anywhere else now... more

Better bars to be had in Manhattan 7/19/2008

I went for drinks after work on a Friday, the bar was packed by 6pm and there was a DJ. We managed to get a table in the back which was much quieter and allowed for conversation. The spinach dip and chips was below average. The drinks were good, except one was served with a hair in it and the waitress didn't take it off the bill. This place is ok if you don't mind fighting the crowd and can overlook poor service. Pros: Good crowd Cons: Too loud, poor service more

Bartenders are great, Waitresses are horrible 5/31/2008

All and all- this a great place to enjoy some after work drinks, the bartenders are great and make sure you don?t wait long for a drink (even when it is crowded). I highly advise against getting a table and having waitress service. A couple friends and I did and it was a disaster. To start off, they messed up our order. The real thing that got to me, was when we were brought our bill, we paid it (with cash) and the waitress never came back to collect. We handed it in to her, and an hour after when we were preparing to leave she re printed the bill out and accused us of not paying. It was a big mess, and to avoid any fights we paid the bill again. That was completely unacceptable!!! Pros: Bartenders Cons: Waitresses more

Awesome Private Party 3/24/2008

My company was having a happy hour in the private room in the back. My girlfriends and I got there early and had dinner first in the bar area. Our server was very nice and promt considering the bar area started to get an inflow of happy hour customers. When our happy hour started we had out own private bar in the back with a bartender that not only was extreamly nice but also remebered my drink order! We love this place and can't wait to come back! more

Amazing place to throw a little birthday dinner... 4/20/2007

Butterfield 8 (see website) currently offers a deal so that if it is your birthday, your dinner and a drink are complimentary if you go with a group. Butterfield 8 also offers great party deals with open bar discounts, which I didn't take advantage of! Pros: Food, deals, great drinks Cons: Crowd (if that's a bad thing, really) more

food is ok/great bar scene 11/20/2006

ate here on a fri night around 830, bar was packed, food was decent, drinks were good . would prob come back for the drinks, not to eat Pros: bar scene Cons: service more

BubbleGoose Tested. BubbleGoose Approved. 9/29/2006

Great place to catch football on Saturdays, Sundays and Monday nights. Awesome special of $25 for unlimited beer and wings Sat & Sun. Where else can you get a deal like this?!? Great place for a private party - Check out their new bottle service. This place really knows how to hook it up. Hottest women around especially the staff. The dj is phenominal and has everything. Pros: Private Parties and Bottle Service more

Great staff, awful crowd, ok food 9/7/2006

Pros: Great Service, friendly staff Cons: too many jocks, too loud, kitchen closes early more

All Falls Down 8/24/2006

I love this bar and I don't know why! It feels really new, it's bright inside but not annoyingly, and I like the wood decor. And as an added bonus there's the other room in the back. Anyway, I was there last night (Thursday) and the crowd was young, professional, good mix of guys and girls, drink specials were great, and when we left we all fell the street...oops...Oh wait, I remember why I love it- the music was GREAT. Yes, you should go...try not to fall down... Pros: Music! Drink specials- my guy friend paid $9 for double jack and coke- cheap-o; Hotties Cons: Falling down; not enough sinks in woman's bathroom more

Great Place to get Ripped off!!!!! 8/10/2006

Place is horrible becuase of the waterdowned drinks. Service is rude. The 30 dollar wrist band is a rip off. Bartenders make prices up as they go along. Not recommended at all! Pros: Don't have one positive thing to say about this place Cons: You get ripped off! Waterdowned drinks more

Good lunch experience; reasonable prices 7/26/2006

I went there for lunch with co-workers and found the service to be prompt and very friendly. The food was tasty and the prices VERY reasonable. Pros: Service; food; prices more

Alana is the best/ guest bartender from Fairfield University and is not only the most beautiful bartender but she is also excellent at the Cosmo of the century and some Malibu cocktail - MisabellaCocktail - ;-) ENJOY great atmosphere!! more

Loud! 6/13/2006

I was impressed with this place when we initially arrived, although the door staff / hostess gave us mega attitude. The food was fantastic, as was our server. (I highly recommend the bread pudding for dessert!). However by the end of the night the bar area was hopping, which was fine if you were there for that, but the noise was not contained to the bar area at all, despite there being a door separating the food and drinking areas. So it was hard to hear our dinner conversation! And getting out of the place was ridiculous, we had to shove through throngs of people in the bar (mostly drunk at this point). I agree with separate areas for food and drink, but there should be a better layout when it comes to arriving and leaving. I would totally check it out as a bar though, it seemed fun. more

Great lunch place 4/20/2006

I met a client here and wasn't expecting much but after the lunch was over, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meal and the price point. I had tuna over a salad and it must have been an entire tuna steak... we had cokes, coffee and two salads for $30. In mid town manhattan, that's a good deal for a white table clothed restaurant. There were more expensive main heavier meals and they appeared to be worth it as they were carried to their respective tables. Overall, a great meal at a great price and our waitress was very attentive and timely. Pros: Food, lunchtime ambience, wait staff more

Interesting 3/25/2006

I've only been to the place once and my over all experience was a good one. Not a great one but definitely a good one. It was brighter than usual but the crowd really didn't seem to mind much as the DJ kept them moving. It was a good pit stop for a bunch of friends on a Sat. night. As most New Yorkers know most bars in the city ""are just a pit stop"". I wish the investors luck. I don't know any of them personally but I would never trash them publicly like the review below has. Telling ""your friends"" in person take a lot more courage than ""..mmm"" will ever know. Keep your money and I bet your friends do just fine. Take it from an unrelated experienced investor that knows what he is taking about. Pros: Music, Price, Food Cons: Lighting, Crowded, To Loud more

nice! 3/22/2006

I met some friends here after work last week - had a GREAT time. Great energy, one of those places that seems like you'll always have fun. We were only supposed to meet there and we ended up staying all night. As for the past review - what's wrong with getting some personal attention from an investor in a restaurant or bar? It's called customer service? At least they care about their business. I will be going back for sure. Pros: price, good crowd, fun atmosphere more

hmmm... 2/23/2006

Can I offer some words of advice...never introduce yourself to me as ""an investor"" and insist on a handshake. I'm talking to my friends. When deciding on whether to buy another TV monitor (they have 7) or investing in lighting/sound system, Please pay a little attention to the latter two or the experience feels like drinking in an overlit library for people with ADD, yelling to make yourself heard. Please don't hand me a menu of food ""that will be on offer in the future"" I'm hungry now and nachos won't cut it. Finally, don't put a meathead on the door to block my way in and're not a nightclub or even a lounge. It's 7pm on a Wednesday and you're a bar. Good luck fellas. I could have ""invested"" plenty of money here, but won't be. Pros: It's near wher I work Cons: lighting, horrible choice of be, nasty sound system more
