For the amount of money I have to pay to park and get into the zoo, I think this place is a dump. I could go to St. Louis for free and see a better place! Cons: expensive, exp...

THe Indianapolis Zoo 4/16/2006

My family and I love the zoo. My daughter and wife love going there. We all have a fun family time together. The price is a little bit if your not going to buy a family pass. But the family pass makes it cheap. Just remember to bring your own lunch! more

Fun, But Crowded and Expensive 4/12/2006

It's the Zoo and it's for family fun. Then why does it cost so much? The best deal is the family pass if you want to go there a lot. Family passes are like $99.00 for a year for 2 adults and there under 21 kids w/ free parking. Other wise, your going to pay a fortune! And every time you go there you'll also pay $5.00 just to park! If your going to go, get the pass. One trip almost pays for it's self! more

GREAT place to go 12/24/2005

We get a membership every year to the zoo. This zoo is always doing things to stay current and beyond. It was the first zoo in the world to have a successful insemination of an African elephant. There are births each year, and not quiet ones, but ones that involve the entire community. When the zoo lost an African elephant a few years ago, the entire community mourned the loss. There are travelling exhibits that are absolutely amazing, such as the insect one, and the jellyfish one. There are also amazing new exhibits added each year, such as the Seahorse exhibit and the latest, the new and improved Dolphin Exhibit. more

The zoo that delivers 10/27/2005

This year there is a new animal at the zoo... a baby elephant! And baby Nubrian goats!! and a giraffe!! Each year seems to bring more babies. Besides these latest additions, there is more. In the summer, on weekends, there is face painting, and animal puppets to purchase, and a mini water park with random water shoots from the padded ground. There is a roller coaster (mini), a train ride around the Great Plains, and pony rides. There are shows throughout the day as well. The latest attraction is the new dolphin pavilion. It's amazing and let's you view the dolphins from underneath the surface of the water. Last year was the first year for the Seahorse Exhibit, and for a while there was a travelling Jellyfish exhibit. Next year is the new Meercats exhibit. more

Great in winter! 10/23/2005

I'm not a fan of the crowds by any means, and in my opinion, winter is the best time to go to the zoo! My favourite animals are still in residence (polar bears, brown bears, tigers, etc.), the snake exhibit is a great place to bask in the warmth, and Water Gardens usually have something fun going on if you're getting too cold. But you get to see everything in the calmest manner possible! more

Indianapolis Zoo 10/18/2005

I have been taking my kids to the Zoo since they were babies. And each experience is better. I love all the extra things that have been added. The dolphins are wonderful. By far the favorite part of our day. Food is good, just a little pricey but that is with any place like the Zoo. My kids and I enjoy it each time and will go back again. Gina G more

Great Zoo 9/19/2005

I took my niece and nephews here and we had a great time. The kids absolutely loved the zoo and I like it too. It was so much fun to see them so excited and amazed. My favorite part was the dolphin show and exhibit. Dolphins are my favorite animals and I could have stood there and watched them all day long. We had a great time! more

So much fun 9/17/2005

I recently took my one year old daughter to her first visit to the zoo. She loved it to say the least. It was nice to see the zoo through a child's eyes. The new dolphin dome is so amazing. It's great tp be able to walk right under the dolphins. The dolphin show however was so cheesy. I think they really need a new script . The facilities were really nice though. My only advice is try not to go on the hottest day of the year as we did. A lot of the animals were in hiding and my daughter's favorite part of the day was having water sprayed on her! more

Almost great 9/4/2005

This zoo is the best in the winter, when very few people are actually there - you get to roam the entire place almost on your own! If you have time at all, get into the terrarium part: their snake collection is simply amazing, but rather crowded with people, usually. The parking situatio is non-intuitive, however: I suppose I could have not paid at all if I didn't ask to pay for it along with the ticket. But oh well - need to provide good example for my niece :) more

The best Zoo Ever 8/9/2005

The Indianapolis Zoo is the very best! We have been there tons and tons of times! It's very impressive they have an indoor aqaurium and dolphin arena (which has recently been completely revamped) They also offer a desert area and a large petting zoo area. They have a couple places for food purchase, but I recommend taking a lunch in a cooler! Their prices are a little outrageous! My kids absolutely LOVE the ZOO! more

Fun for the family! 8/7/2005

The Indianapolis Zoo is a great place for family fun. If you plan your day prior to attending the zoo several shows and interesting programs can make the most of your day. The zoo has a great set-up and is very clean. For the experience the admissions price is not all that high. But I would suggest eating prior to your visit and bring a bottle of water instead of planning to eat in the food court, as prices for food and drinks are very high. One of the negative things about the zoo is that the zoo does not house animals larger zoos do. They have all the typical animals such as lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, etc. The zoo lacks some of the more interesting aquatic animals and members of the cat family. We went when they just opened the brand new renovated dolphin arena that wasn't at all impressive. We got free admission into this because it was a brand new exhibit. But you can still go inside the dome to look at them swim from underneath without paying for the show. You do have to pay for this exhibit now. The zebra, & giraffe were in open spaces to roam. The polar bear and seal exhibit was is way too tiny for the animals. You can see the elephants from the highway. And if you have little children, they have a petting zoo inside, that is really nice. They have pony rides for $2.00. The zoo has very few rides that are small roller coasters. They have beautiful Gardens. more

The Best Dolphin show! 8/5/2005

We have one of the best zoo's in the US, the dolphin show alone is worth a trip to our zoo, the just recently re-did the entire dolphin area, we have not had a chance to go and visit it since they closed for the remodel but we will take our kids very soon, it does tend to be a little pricey but getting a season pass it the way to go if you LOVE the zoo like we do. more

My kids love the Indianapolis Zoo. 8/4/2005

My kids love the Indianapolis Zoo very much! This zoo is not too huge or too small, just right size, in my opinion. Especially, it feels just right size for small children. The new dolphin exhibit just opened, and I can't wait to go see! The Dolphin Adventure Dome makes you feel like you are under the water. Inside the zoo, you also can ride a train and can play at a playground area. We are taking our 1-year-old son to the zoo as his 2nd birthday party. Great zoo! UPDATE- We went to the zoo last Monday (8/8/05). It was great fun! The dolphin exhibit is amazing. You feel like you are inside of ocean swimming with dolphins. If you are planning to visit more than twice in a year, I highly recommend buying yearly memberships. If we pay regular one time only addmission fees, it costs about $40 for us (2 adults + 2 year-old and 4 year-old). We bought a family membership which is good for 2 adults and all children in the household (we have 2 kids). It costs $75, but parking is always free for members. If you are not a member, you have to pay $5 for parking. When we entered the parking area, we go ahead paid $5 for parking. At the zoo entrance, we showed the parkikng recipt when we bought the membership and got $5 off of $75 membership fee. Also, we found a $5 coupon for zoo membership from one of coupon mailers we got at home. I don't remember which coupon mailer it was in, but you might be able to find $5 coupon somewhere. It was great deal to pay only $65 for yearly fun at the zoo. more

Great place to take the whole family! 8/3/2005

We absolutely love having a membership to the Indianapolis Zoo. It's a nice zoo with a good variety of animals. It's large enough to be exciting for the kids, but small enough to provide interaction. Having a membership takes a lot of the pressure off of spending a day at the zoo. Just going 3 times in an entire years pays for the membership. I love that we can go for an hour or two and not have to feel like we have to stay to get our money's worth. The new dolphin area is great, but the new show really needs some work. The underwater dome is neat, though there aren't many dolphins. more

Good Zoo 8/2/2005

I enjoy the Indianapolis Zoo. The exhibits are fun, and the place isn't too big that you can't see everything in one day. Rates are cheap, and it's a great place to take a family for a day of clean fun. They have attractions for the whole family. Definitely make it a point to go at least once a summer. more

Great place for kids 7/23/2005

My children love to walk around and learn about the animals. There is information at each exhibit on the animals. The play areas are great to let the kids run without having to worry about them. The water area is great to cool them down and give parents a chance to sit down! It is pricey if you only want to go once, but if you can take advantage of the membership, it is an excellent deal! Having the pass helps when you have little children. You don't feel like you have to drag them thru the entire zoo to get your moneys worth! more

Indianapolis zoo 7/11/2005

Indianapolis zoo is where we have taken our daughter the past two summers and she loves this place. They have a great selection of animals well displayed and easy to see in nice clean environments. The dolphin show is a must see while your there and is included in the price of your ticket. Also for just a $1.00 you can feed the giraffes at certain times through the day and is alot of fun. When your ready for a break or cool down there several great places to get a snack and then there is a nice play ground for the kids and they also have a wet play area that is alot of fund. more

Great zoo to do in a day, but get the membership 7/8/2005

For a one time trip, our zoo is expensive. It costs more than eleven dollars apiece for grownups and not much less for children over three. Buy the family membership if you intend to go more than twice in a year. That said, the new dolphin exhibit is gorgeous, there are plenty of outdoor play areas as well as exhibits (some with water features), and it's small enough that you can do it in a day. They do allow you to bring food in, so save money and bring a picnic. There are plenty of tables, some with shade umbrellas. more

Great way to spend the day! 6/22/2005

We are so lucky here in Indy to have such a fantastic zoo. It is located downtown, and is really a terrific place to spend the day. The new dolphin exhibit is pretty amazing. Also a highlight for our group was the seahorse exhibit. There are several concession areas if you need a break, a nice petting area for the kids to enjoy, and a train to take you all around. The zoo is also very walkable - it's not so big that you can't take it all in within an afternoon. more
