Sure the word "wine" is in the name, and yes, they do have a nice selection of wines. But what R. Field has that appeals to me is a very nice food section. They have great-looking local produce grown on small farms--like the nalo greens or thin local asparagus spears. They also feature a very nice selection of imported cheeses sold in small enough portions that you don't have to waste too much money to give that new cheese a try. I like that they sell a huge (around 6lb) can of imported san marzano tomatoes so I can make tomato sauce to last a while. On the mainland you can get smaller cans for $2 a can but here you'll pay about 4 or 5 so paying around $10 for the big can makes economical sense. They also have a nice selection of imported olive oils and anchovies to complement the sauce :).
