sushi? rock 12/10/2007

This place leaves a lot to desired as far as sushi/sashimi go. I, recently, returned from japan where I have lived for the past 2 years and have acquired a taste for qality seafood. This stuff they sell here is barely suitable to be consumed raw. Also, the pieces are terribly small and not so fresh. Oh to be born a genetic freak with ten thumbs so I could point them all down for sushi rock's sushi, sashimi, and service(slow&impolite). There is one good thing the place does have going on-Japanese beer! more

It's Ok... 10/6/2005

Great sushi and great atmosphere! 9/24/2005

Sushi Rock has, in my opinion, the best sushi in town. I especially like their large maki rolls. The pieces are so big that I can barely stuff them in my mouth. The place also has a fancy design and is quite the hip spot in the warehouse district on West 6th. Wednesday night they have half price specials, and occassionally it's possible to get discount certificates from restaurant.com. Without a doubt this place is worth checking out at least once. Chances are, you'll want to come back. more

Holding its own on a drunken street 9/10/2005

Sushi Rock was so nice when it opened. They still do a half price sushi night on Wednesdays, but good luck getting a table. And if you do land a coveted spot in the dining room, you will wait an incredibly long time for your food. But the drinks flow pretty easily. I recently stopped by the Sushi Rock on a late Saturday night, and I was pretty appalled by the crowd. In the streets and in the restaurant. The crowd has gotten very young, very loud and very drunk. My friend and I witnessed very young, very drunk girls drinking something called a "sake bomb", which, near as I can tell, is a good way to ruin both a beer and a glass of sake. Stay far, far away from here on the weekends. Try to get in on a Wednesday for the half price deals, but any other night is overpriced. Nice space, but the warehouse district crowd has just gotten too out of control. more

Elegant atmosphere, fancy food. 6/18/2005

I've gone to many many Japanese restaurants but this one is probably the most fancy one of them all. The menu consists of both American and Japanese food, and this is NOT the place is you are looking for authentic/traditional Japanese food. The sushi comes in rolls (maki) and they have several style to pick one. They are a bit of a hybrid that's why I don't say these are authentic Japanese food, but they still taste very good! I particularly liked the Rainbow Roll. The rolls are giant and it might be good idea to order different flavors and share them. The dining area is split into upper level and lower level, and the place is clean, new looking, modern, and you see a lot of young professionals there. Downside is that the prices are not cheap. more
