Expensive, but best I've found in DC 4/13/2009

Be prepared to pay $225 for a cut and full highlights (not with Andre) before tip. The service is rushed and can be rude. Staff does speak in Spanish in front of customers. But every time I try to save money and go somewhere else I regret it. I get consistently good haircuts from Badrie. Patrick's are great and a little more creative. Absolutely the best place for natural- looking blonde highlights (Badrie has been doing mine along with the cut for the last year or so. I saw several other people there before Badrie for color, however). I won't go anywhere else again. I wish it were a friendlier place, but I'll take a consistently good cut and color over better customer service. I somewhat regularly get asked by strangers where I get my hair done and it has nothing to do with me! Hours are convenient too. more

Best Salon in D.C 3/10/2007

I went to Andre Chreky's salon this past weekend and I am very pleased with the haircut and the hair color.I came in with long hair that was bringing me down and highlights that hadn't been done in a while. My colorist was amazing, she put lowlights and highlights to balance out the color. My hairstylist,Rodney, was amazing as well;I showed him a picture that I had brought in, he looked at it one time and was ready to go. My hair usually takes a while to cut, but not this time, it was very quick, but precise as well. I came in feeling like street person and walked out looking and feeling like a movie-star! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in the D.C area! more

Spa services at Andre Chreky 2/17/2007

I regularly go to Andre Chreky for eyebrow waxes and facials. Mila does a very thorough job waxing, and I always like the end result. She will wax, pluck any stray hairs, and trim any longish hairs. Most importantly, she will listen to what you want. Recently the salon raised their prices, so an eyebrow wax is now $20 (plus I always give a $5 tip). So, $25 for a wax isn't exactly cheap. Every month or so, the salon offers a $10 brow waxing event, which I try to go to as much as possible. Go to their website to subscribe to their email list to be notified of monthly specials. The spa treatment rooms are on the third and fourth floors of the salon, high above the loudness of the hair salon. My waxing and my facials are always in a spacious room with a fireplace (although I have yet to see it lit). Mila is great at giving facials. While I get my facial, she puts my hands in warming mitts to soften. I know there are different types of facials offered, and I honestly don't know which one I do. It's $80 and usually lasts almost an hour and a half and includes things like a light shoulder massage and extractions. Mila has recommended helpful things to add (or subtract) from my diet to benefit my skin, and has lead me to some good products, without any sales pressure. Their policy is cash-only for tips--they won't let you add it on to your credit card. Generally I find it pretty easy to get appointments. Evenings are always less busy, which is great for me because I just come right after work. I've come on Saturdays and the place is usually filled with at least one bridal party, complete with young flower girls running around, so I would avoid Saturdays if possible. more

Simply the best! 10/1/2006

I have been having my hair done by Andre for about 15 years. Once upon a time, I remarked to a colleague that I liked her hair and she referred me to a salon in DC (I can't remember the name, but it was before Andre opened his own salon). Well, I saw Andre at this salon and, well, the rest is history. He has always given me a great cut and has always, always, emphasized good customer service. I have to say that because I live in Virginia I have been disloyal a few times simply because it was convenient to stay in VA, but have always gone back to Andre with my tail between my legs. He really is an artist with hair. No doubt about it! more

Review 9/22/2006

I went to Andre's for a full highlight. The female stylist made my color lighter and did not get near my roots, which was my reason for going. My guy friend told me it was the worst color he had seen on me. I went back again for her to fix it. The result was my hair was too blonde, and it looked like a solid color. It cost me $233 to fix it at another dc salon. As you can imagine, it is very damaging to the hair to have color mistakes made, as the processing causes the hair to get dried out. more

Awful. I came in wearing converse shoes and you would have thought I hadn't bathed in weeks by the way I was treated. The hairstylist, Rodney, completely ignored what I asked and gave me a housewife bob. It's the only time I've ever wanted to cry over my hair. The whole time another girl (in an Anne Taylor suit, of course) was sitting right beside me because she was next in line to have Rodney, so I felt bad criticizing his hack job in front of her. He also took all of 5 minutes and didn't say a word to me the entire time, except to ask how I liked it. When I pointed out that he didn't cut the back of it all, he acted insulted. It was a horrible experience and I would never, ever go back again. more

Not for a plain jane 4/11/2006

I went to Andre Chreky's a while ago and from what I remember, they made me feel awful. I am in my mid-30s and not svelte and don't wear makeup. They treated me like they thought I was some dumpy hausfrau who wasn't worth their time. I would not go back to Chreky's for all the $$$ on K Street. As for the cut, I can't even remember it. Maybe that does not make me a fair rater but I do remember that attitude. Oh my do I remember... more

Bride's Makeup and Hair: Rodney at Andre Chreky Salon 3/21/2006

The salon was so busy both when I was there for my trial and my day-of that I can't recommend the atmosphere. However, Rodney is so very relaxed that he's a calming presence all by himself. His voice is very soothing as well as his attitude. I was so at ease sitting in the chair whether we were chatting or I had my eyes closed for a little rest. After my hair trial, the bottom section of hair started coming loose after 2 hours. Day of my wedding, he made adjustments so that I slept in my hair that night and it still looked good at the day-after brunch. I was immensely pleased with the airbrush makeup application. It goes on breeze-light and stays on through kisses and dances and cheek-pinches and sweating. It doesn't smudge. Period. Only my lip color needed touch-ups a few times. I felt I looked like the most beautiful me I could - not like a painted doll or overdone. Expensive but I thought it was worth it when I looked so fresh at the end of the night. I must put in a special word for Amahl (spelling?), the woman who coordinates the bridal appointments. My own hair dresser didn't tell me she was going on vacation my wedding week until one month before. I was scrambling to find a replacement and Amahl was wonderful in setting up such a last-minute appointment. [Granted, if my ceremony was on a Saturday instead of a Friday, I would've been out of luck.] I am very appreciative of all she did for me including sending me off with a bridal survival kit. :-) more

busy but plush salon! 9/14/2005

I have been going to Andre Chreky salon for over five years. Ask for Jennifer - she always gives a great, stylish cut. Make sure to go early so you can enjoy a free cappaccino and relax downstairs. It's definitely a busy salon - but the customers are well taken care of. Where else would you see the owner himself cutting hair in the chair next to you! more

Totally worth it 9/9/2005

I've tried two stylists at Andre Chreky (Adil and Patrick) with great results. Though the service at the beginning is a little impersonal-- it's a multi-level salon and you're not always given clear directions on where to go-- it gets much better when you're in their chairs. They ask you about your lifestyle, profession and styling habits to find a cut that's right for you, and execute it quicky and skillfully. Mercifully, they don't lecture you when you do silly things like wait 4 months between trims. A cut is around $60 (w/out tip) and is well worth every penny! more

Upscale Salon in DC 8/5/2005

A lot of you probably already know about Andre Chreky Salon. This is a great salon for high end hair styles. If you have a special occasion, like a wedding, engagement party, black tie event, inaugural ball or marine ball, or holiday party this is the place to go. You will get top notch service and the best styles. The prices are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. This place is definitely high quality. I've had a few friends come here to get their hair done before they got married and they loved it. In the past, they have held charity events where they are open around the clock and donate some of the proceeds to charity. I recommend this place if you are looking for a superior design and can spend some money. The store is located on K street so if you work downtown its easy to get there. more
