This is one of my favorite restaurants in the South End. The sandwiches are not only delicious, but so unique. My favorite is the Union Park and it's raisin, nut bread. Portion...

Excellent comfort food 3/15/2006

The Garden of Eden is an excellent casual bistro located convieniently in the South End. They simply have wonderful food. My favorite is the mac and cheese- which is made with a mixture of gourmet cheeses and excellent breaded topping. It is the perfect cold weather pick-me-up. The staff here is very friendly and it is impeccably clean. more

Yummy Sandwiches 9/2/2005

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the South End. The sandwiches are not only delicious, but so unique. My favorite is the Union Park and it's raisin, nut bread. Portions are a little small, though, so if you come with an appetitie, you might want to choose a hearty sandwich and an appetizer. I highly recommend this restaurant. more

Great place for lunch or baked goods 8/4/2005

Nice little place on Tremont Street. Great sandwiches, salads, and desserts. They have some seating outside in the summer. It used to have a great bakery and take out counter, but that is now moved next door (and it is still delicious.) Friendly atmosphere and family style seating inside. more

  • The Scene
Sunny, noisy and akin to a high school cafeteria, Garden of Eden's high-ceilinged dining room is as casually friendly as its cheery waitstaff. Small, copper-topped bistro tables for two are interspersed with hulking wooden tables that often end up being shared. Displayed in a glass case, deliciously tempting pastries, cakes and tarts lend color to the room. Local fans picking up takeout make for steady foot traffic in the dining room.

    The Food

Although Garden of Eden takes pride in purveying cheeses, pates and pastries, the menu offers an array of simpler pleasures. Sandwiches named after neighborhood streets, like the Union Park (chicken, Swiss cheese and Dijon vinaigrette on raisin pecan bread), are lunch favorites. Heartier dishes, like sirloin topped with blue cheese sauce, pair well with cups of homemade soup for dinner. The challenge is to save room for homemade pastries like the Mogador: luscious layers of chocolate genoise, chocolate mousse and raspberry glaze.
