Best

My friend and I stopped in Monday night for dinner at Fire and Ice, Harvard Square. While we were eating our dinner, we noticed a new room in which they were doing karaoke. Lookin...

Worst

The atmosphere was average but the service ruined the experience for me. The staff was incredibly rude and the managment did nothing to compensate for our groups awful experience...

A little something for everyone 6/3/2006

Fire and Ice is a strange ordeal. It's a flat-rate buffet, but all of it is fresh and individually cooked (drinks are and extra expense). There are stir fry stations, salads, burgers, pastas, seafood...you name it. The idea is, you take a bowl, fill it up with whatever you want (ex. peppers, onions, chicken, pesto sauce, cucumbers, udon noodles, mushrooms) and bring it to one of the cooking locations. A chef will throw the contents of your bowl on a huge stovetop-in-the-round where you watch him cook it every step of the way. The burgers are cool...there's a bowl of raw meatballs that you pick up, choose whatever toppings and cheeses, and the chef will basically put a hot iron and flatted it out on the stove. It's one of the hugest burgers on the planet. Expensive, but worth it for an adventure. more

interesting concept 4/3/2006

what I like about this resturant is it's different and has a theme. my husband brought me here on one of our first dates and I thought it was cute and has a nice idea behind it. I also like how you can eat exactly what you want and nothing you don't, you don't have to ask them to "hold the..." or "add some..." we don't live on the east coast anymore, but if I did I would eat here again! more

Yummy! Fire and Ice 3/23/2006

Fire and Ice is fun place to eat. For people on the Atkins' diet, it's great! Only go during the lunch because it's way cheaper. For dinner, it's like $17 and for lunch it's $8 or $9. There is also a fondue dessert with cake and fruit that is good. But it's hard to eat after being full from the buffet. Fixing the dishes can be hard if you do not know which sauces are good. It takes a little experimenting. more

cheap and try it 9/13/2005

Fire and Ice is a place that lets you do the cooking! You have a ton of meat and vegetables to choose from and you top it off with sauces. You can make it as big as you want or as small too. The lunch goes about $8 and the lines do get long over the weekend. more

Interesting Concept, but be prepared to wait in line 9/3/2005

Fire and Ice is a really fun place to go to experience the concept of the open grill, but I would advise to go at an off hour. Because when it gets filled, the open concept grill gets packed and you have to not only wait in line to get up to the grill, but will then have to wait in line to get your food cooked. I do like the overall concept of being able to pick out your own stir fry concoctions, but I think it could be executed a little better. The one thing is, you can only blame yourself if you don't like the food!! :) more

Everyone loves it 9/2/2005

I am not sure I agree with everyone. I think it is a bit overpriced for the food you get. The fun part about this restaurant is the fact that you can create your own dishes. You pick out the ingredients and then the chefs create your dish using your ingredients right in front of you! It's an all you can eat buffet so you can always go back to make a new dish but you usually get full off of the first one. more

Fun place to go with a group 8/25/2005

This "make your own meal" restaurant is noisy (in the best way) and fun when you go with a group. Definitely *not* a place to go for a quiet dinner when you want to talk intimately. That said, it's a great place for a group of co-workers or family when you want to do something other than sit there and order. A variety of meats, veggies, and sauces are set out, salad bar style, for you to add to a small bowl. Your bowl is then handed to a grill cook who uses a hot griddle surface to cook everything together. My young nieces and nephews love this place because they can pick among their favorite foods and avoid the "yucky" ones. When the resturant is crowded it can be quite a wait to get your food cooked, so that limits how many times you might be willing to refill your plate. A couple of times I've been there, in off hours, it's been almost empty so it was easy to return to the grill. Definitely a place to try when you're up for something different. more

Yuppie, but good food 8/20/2005

*Those people* go to Fire and Ice. You know, *them*. That kind of people. They dress and talk like *that*. Well, it isn't all yuppies, but there are more than a few. And if you can get past the people, the prospect of an all-you-can-eat build-your-own-meal place is actually rather appetizing. The big attraction is that you can spoon any kind of food from little serving bowls into a little bowl of your own, and then watch as a trained professional empties your bowl onto a big, circular oven right out there in the open and cooks it. Also you can cook it with lots of different kinds of sauces. That's about it; but, hey, you can keep going back and putting more stuff in bowls for the chefs, and they don't seem to mind. (I've never stayed for more than three or four rounds; maybe they -do- start to mind after a while.) When full, it can get loud; and it's often hot near the oven. Oh well. It's never too bad that you can't hear anyone, and since it's in Boston you can usually just throw yourself outside if you're desperate for cold. The desserts are good, though not earthshattering (and not unlimited.) Don't go for the atmosphere; go for the food! more

Every meal is a show! 8/16/2005

Fire and Ice is an all you can eat mongolian BBQ located on Church St in Harvard Square. You pick out the meats, vegetables, sauce, and condiments you want and bring it to the mongrolian grill. There, trained chefs will take your sauces and your food mixture and actually grill your meal in front of you. There are over 16 diffefrent kinds of sauces you can choose from so you can always go back and try out different combinations of meats, veggies, and sauces. Fire and Ice costs about $20 per person for dinner, and there is a full bar where you can order a wide variety of mixed drinks and other libations. more

Delicious, Fun, ........Pricey 8/14/2005

Great atmosphere to go with friends, especially on weekend nights. Sort of a buffet style grill. You choose pasta, sauce, veggies, and meat. They grill it. Only set back is the price, but for the most part it is worth it more

eat up 8/14/2005

A great place to bring friends and co-workers. A sort of buffet slash grill. There are a few food stations with assorted meats, veggies and pasta, that you fill small bowls and bring to a center hot plate. There the "chief" will stir fry you selections with the sauce of your choice. Good value for dollar, something food comes out overcooked or slightly underdone. Place is laid out well and can fill up quickly. more

Great Food, Decent Price 8/13/2005

Fire and Ice is a great place to take all the finicky eaters in your group. It's the type of restaurant where you gather all the various foods you like and the chefs grill them up for you. There are a variety of sauces/marinades to choose from to add some zest to your grilled yummies. The vegetable selection was fabulous and included two of my favorites: roasted eggplant and sweet potatoes. I think what impressed me most is that you can have as little or as much of the steak, chicken and fish as you like to add to your creation. I piled on the aged sirloin, which to my surprise was *very* good. There's a courtyard outside that's pretty sheltered and it's in the center of the restaurant which is very appealing on a windy/rainy day. They also have umbrellas for each of the tables to keep you dry if it rains. The only downside is the sparrows like to help themselves to your food if you leave the table unattended. So do leave one person to attend to your things. more

Great for picky eaters 8/5/2005

This is a great place to go if you have pick eaters with you. They have bars set up like a salad bar and you pick out what items you want. Anything from hamburgers, sub items to stir fry is there. Then they have a side bar with all these different sauces to choice from. In the middle of the restaurant here is a big grill where they cook you food as you wait. Also if you have any problems with food like you can’t eat shell fish or something like that. They will cook you food on a different grill so there is no accident crossing of your food. If you are looking for something new and exciding this place is for you. more

Delicious! 8/2/2005

I'm a pretty picky eater, I'll admit. Fire & Ice is the absolute perfect place for an eater like me (or anyone really!). Basically, you take a bowl, fill it with whatever your heart desires, watch them prepare it for you, and eat! Fresh veggies and meats abound, everyone is going to find something that they like here, for sure! You can even pay a few bucks extra for unlimited trips to the grill, mmmm. Definitely check it out, it's right in Harvard Square, and I believe that there are other locations in Boston as well. Well worth the trip! more
