Great breakfast location, well known to locals. Yummy breakfast. Try it out. more

Consistent diner food and friendly staff 3/22/2009

Sometimes I get a little disappointed with the tiny tables and equally tiny coffee cups, but the Varsity isn't about massive food or fancy ingredients. It's warm, consistent, always friendly, always dependable. The only innovation in recent years is the sauce on the huevos rancheros, which is one of those things when you wish you had a spatula so you don't miss a drop. Delicious. Some mornings I intentionally decide to work from home so that I can go get breakfast at the Varsity. more

When you've had your fill of herbed potato cubes and goat cheese omelettes 2/3/2007

When you've had your fill of fancy (and often overpriced) breakfast food, head over to the Varsity Inn. Typical diner-type breakfast fare with generous portions and a friendly staff. One of a handful of places that actually serves shredded hash browns and during the week you can't really beat their $4.95 breakfast special (sausage, eggs, toast and hashbrowns!). more

No Scene, Just Good Food & Simple Service 5/23/2006

The Varsity Inn reminds me of that restaurant in Seinfeld (help me out with the name), but a lot smaller and the waitresses don't wear uniforms. Basically, this place is a mom & pop Denny's, but the food is way better maybe because it isn't a Denny's. I was initially drawn in by the huge yellow banner outside that advertises an insanely cheap breakfast during the week, which was perfect for me as I was attending college at the time. The atmosphere is comfortable and filled with locals most likely strolling in from up the street where ever they live for a leisurely breakfast. I've noticed many types of people here from the elderly to the hip. The coffee refills are prompt and the food portions huge. My favorite is the Denver omlette because I've never wanted to try anything else although the menu has everything from steaks to oatmeal. There's bound to be something on there for everyone. Most notably the place is unpretentious. The patrons visiting the restaurant aren't scensters or hipsters and don't seem to have any other agenda but to get a good meal and a fair price with some peace and quite to read the paper. No one seems to be in a hurry to leave. Now I eat there with a group of friends and we make plans to get their right when it opens on Saturday, when it is the most alluring because it's quiet, not packed, and it's fun to watch what types of people steadily trickle in. After 8 a.m. on a Saturday the place tends to fill up, but I've never noticed a line like at some places in Seattle on a weekend. more

Good local spot for breakfast in Wallingford 2/7/2006

A stone's throw from Gasworks Park, the Varsity Inn is a good option for breakfast if you're in the area. Pretty family friendly too. Nothing fancy and the food isn't spectacular but it's good enough to spend a leisurely morning sipping coffee, eating eggs, and reading the Sunday paper. more

southern diner style 12/29/2005

Straight-up no-frills diner food, real hashbrowns, only a few omelets. You'll only know you're in Seattle because you can't smoke inside, otherwise, you'd swear you were in a Waffle House. more

Good relaxing morning place. 6/1/2005

This is sort of non-gourmet Americana comfort food. It's probably the closest thing to blue-collar breakfast food you're going to find in Wallingford, Fremont. The good coffee comes quickly and often. While every dish on the breakfast menu is good, the pancakes especially stand out. The atmosphere is cozy. All of the seating is in comfortable booths along both sides of the long-skinny dining room. The staff is friendly very friendly. more
