Delicious food w/attitude 3/5/2009

Everything I've ever ordered is excellent! The BEST mulitgrain sticky buns! I guess that's why they can get away with having staff that has an indifferent attitude. Especially on the weekend, I feel like they are bothered by the presence of so many people spending $$ at the store. I'm a local- weekdays are a little better, but they should do better with staff. more

expensive, but good. Service with a touch of arrogance 1/19/2009

I have tried Blackbird on numerous occasions, and every time I tell myself that it must just be an off day. All I hear is how great it is, and how good the food is. Yet, while the food is good, a little expensive, the service--yuk! The best way to describe it is the "Soup Nazi" meets your local bakery. I mean really, its coffee and a 5 dollar cookie, get over yourself. more

Gluten-Free - 3 berry muffins 8/27/2007

If you are gluten-free, they have the best 3 berry muffins yet. Believe me, I have done the hunt. Since I live in Eastern Washington but travel to Winslow every so often, I buy a dozen and freeze them. My friend, who is also gluten-free agrees with me and so does her son, who is gluten-free. more

Great place to bring your lover 1/9/2007

I will be visiting there tomorrow with the love of my life, so from what I've heard, it's the place to enjoy sweets and the sweet. Comes very highly recommended. I'm looking forward to good food with a good view. And the one out the window of Main Street is supposed to be good, too! more

BlackBird Perfect for Light Lunch 1/1/2007

We have yet to find a great bakery on the Eastside so this bakery made my husband and I tempted to make this our Sunday brunch routine--ferry, exercise to bakery, binge on amazing quality and selection of carbs-o-rama. So my husband and we ladies opted for roasted beet soup with thick, yeasty slices of oatmeal bread while the boys lunched on white bean and roasted vegetable chili. Then we shared a savory caramelized pear, gorgonzola, and toasted walnut tart and a dark, spicy slab of gingerbread laced with whiskey. The kids found room for slabs of dessert trio: Double Chocolate Cheesecake. Hazelnut Torte with Cream and Grand Marnier Snow Ball Cake (two chocolate layers wrapped in cream and coconut). Not surprisingly, the kids weren't able to finish and even our help, large mounds of desert remained. Yep, it's a bakery after my own heart. Now, a la Claim Jumper, bigger is not always better with their mediocre to plain disgusting desserts, but if you can make something really yummy and make it large enough to share, yep, you've got me. Furthermore, prices seemed reasonable to cheap compared to bakeries I've been to of the same caliber in the Napa Valley or San Francisco. Verdict: Blackbird Bakery is a must visit on a trip to Seattle/Bainbridge Island. Yum! more

Coffee and a great people watching spot! 3/21/2006

The Blackbird Bakery is located in the middle of Winslow Way, with great seats that are facing the windows overlooking the main street. Especially during summer months, there are plenty of tourists walking by and it makes a great spot to people watch while having a freshly baked pastry (yum!) and a great espresso drink. I would highly recommend it, we love their coffee and our kids love the Charlie Brown cookies, too! more

Blackbird Bakery 3/17/2006

The storefront is very appealing and well maintained. Upon entering, I notice that the display case is full of freshly baked items. Some breads, pastries, cookies, etc. There's a nice sit down area and the atmosphere is one of a cafe. It's very comforting. Upon closer inspection, I notice rather steep prices. Perhaps that's because it's Bainbridge. I don't know. The one shortbread cookie I had was delicious. more

Amazing Pastries & Yummy Cakes 8/30/2005

An excursion to Bainbridge is not complete without a stop at the Blackbird Bakery. Their pastries, cakes, cookies, and desserts are diverse, inventive, and absolutely yummy. With a cup of Jo or a hot tea, the Blackbird Bakery serves up a wonderful treat! If you're looking for a baker for your wedding, I can also highly recommend this bakery. Their bakers are very approachable and down to earth. They prepared 180 cupcakes and a delicious coconut cutting cake for our wedding in Poulsbo in September 2004. The total cost was very reasonable, and our guests raved about the cupcakes for months! I met with Christine (one of the bakers) who was very accomodating and flexible, even sourcing a local provider for edible flowers in the color that I needed. It was a great experience. more

Coffee and a baked treat 8/15/2005

Nice selection of baked goods, good coffee. Special favorites: lemon poppyseed braid, almond-cherry luna, and thick slabs of toast with freezer jam. Especially good for those with allergies--this is one of the rare bakeries to offer both "regular" baked goods as well as a range of gluten-free products. Can be very busy, especially on weekend mornings, but catching up with neighbors is part of the fun. If you happen to be on the other end of the island, check out the BB outpost at Bay Hay & Feed. more

Yummy and Healthy Bakery 7/25/2005

This a great place to go after a ferry ride from Seattle. It is located on the main street in Winslow and is within walking distance from the ferry. I had a whole grain pecan sticky bun and it was delicious. It was hard to pick because everything looked soooo good. They had beautiful cakes and pies also. more

Island charm, sensational scones 5/17/2005

It's really hard to beat the Blackbird, which is a short walk from the ferry terminal in downtown Winslow / Bainbridge Island. Pros: Cinnamon rols and orange rolls are unbelievable, but the local fav is the lemon-blackberry scone. Big, fluffy, with lots of fruit and flavor. The best deal in the house is toast -- thick slices of homemade oat-wheat bread with raspberry freezer jam for $1.25. Cons: Somewhat limited seating inside, but plenty of casual outdoor seating -- some covered -- right on the main drag. Do what the locals do -- come early on Saturday morning, have coffee and a baked good, then walk a block up the hill to the Saturday Farmers Market. more
