Parks and Rec Department...... 7/31/2005

Tuscon Parks and Recreation Department offers many programs to a wide variety of its citizens. When I first moved to Tucson, in the early 90s, I was extremely impressed by the P&R Department. The classes offered were diverse and fun. You could learn about anything from glass beads to re-upholstering your chair. Once I had kids, I took them to numerous parks and rec classes. The classes were GREAT!!! They were inexpensive, numerous and wonderfully staffed and run. Things have changed in this area, unfortunately. The prices have more than doubled. I find it sad that the city has found it necessary to fund their budget, partly, on the backs of Tucson's kids and families. I enrolled my first child in about 4 classes every session. Now, I can only afford to pick and choose one or two. The choices are much, much less and the costs of the classes skyrocketed in just a couple of years. That said, there are still some good choices there. It just takes more effort and budgeting to find the right ones for your kids. I would suggest the ceramics classes with Poncho and the kid arts and crafts with Miss Lily. I could write more about this............but I need to go and get my catalog!!! It's time to sign up for Fall classes soon! more
