Monkey Dooz is most definitely one local business that is worth every penny you spend!
I took my son there on the recommendation of several close friends. He has mild autism, and has sensory issues that make haircuts especially traumatic and challenging for him. Whereas most haircutting establishments would get about 3 minutes into the cut and then quit for fear of hurting him (or, more likely, going deaf because of the screaming), the brave women at Monkey Dooz have a much-appreciated "start what we finish" philosophy.
Two suckers, several toys, and a lot of hair ended up on the floor, but the job was done, and the results were very nice. Although I suppose I could have continued to cut his hair myself to avoid embarrassment, I consider it well worth the cost. We were treated with respect and complete understanding at all times. In fact, I was told that I could even bring a movie from home if I wished, if I felt it would keep my kiddo calmer.
Since then, I know of three other families whose children experience autism to different degrees, and all have been happy with such a valuable service. When navigating the world of pervasive conditions like autism (or just extreme resistance to haircuts, which a lot of typical kids experience!), businesses like this are a welcome breath of fresh air.
