Great pasta and salads 6/19/2009

We frequently get Varlamos take-out for dinner, and one order of pasta is plenty to share. It comes with garlic bread and salad, and is a great value. The Penne Gorgonzola with walnuts and artichoke hearts is my favorite. Nice for dine in with kids and family, too. Friendly and local place with heart. more

Best Place On Earth 12/11/2006

I prob eat at Varlamo's twice a week. They have the best pasta and calzones and pizza. The service is very friendly and they all work really hard. Especially if you are lucky enough to get Chelsea. She is very outgoing and makes great salads! The owner is very friendly and will do anything to make sure that everyone has a good time. The restaurant is very family friendly and everyone who comes in has a good time. Varlamo's is the Best! I recommend cheese tort with blush sauce! It's fantastic! more

Ok, it is true, by the time we got there, got seated, ordered and got food, I was starving and therefore, I ate well. But as far as pizza goes, Varlamos wasn't fantastic. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy going there, but I am not sure why... The food is ok, not great, the service is ok, not great, the atmosphere is fun, but not great. So, you ask, what do I like about it? Well, it is convenient, the wait to get seated isn't usually too long, it is kid friendly (i.e. noisy) and the prices aren't too bad. So take it or leave it. more

Go for the calzone 4/4/2006

While the pizzas could use a bit of improving at this local pizzeria, it is their massive calzones that stand alone. Pre-dinner salads are available free of charge before your meal, but my advice would be to skip on the ranch-spilled salad and save room for that calzone! Prices are okay, nothing spectacular. Just a solid-neighborhood joint that draws students and families alike. Watch out for post-game crowds stampeding in from Husky stadium. Otherwise, no issues with seating. Enjoy! more

Varlamos Pizzeria 7/25/2005

This restaurant is hit and miss. Their Calzones are quite good and come in huge sizes at a reasonable price. You also get the option to choose your toppings. The Pizza has a nice crust, but last time I had it it was fairly tasteless. It was as if the chef forgot to add the seasonings. It's a noted UW Husky fan hangout, and there are tv's tuned to sporting events located throughout the restaurant. Overall it's not a bad place, just was disappointed the last time I was there. more

Great Family Place! 4/29/2005

Varlamos is a great neighborhood location for families of all ages. As a mom of a toddler, it's great to have all of the TV's and fans on the ceiling to entertain our little one while Mom and Dad actually get to eat. Decent salads, great pizzas. Calzones are pretty good, but are pretty doughy. This is also a great place to grab food after a husky football game. more

Favorite Neighborhood Family-Owned Restaurant 4/21/2005

Varlamos Pizzeria offes a variety of pizzas, pastas and football-sized calzones! It's a favorite neighborhood restaurant for the surrounding Laurelhurst and SandPoint areas. Prices are very reasonable and entrees include a fresh dinner salad. A solid choice for families and college students alike (various Husky sport's team members have been known to chow down here after a game). A second room includes several TVs for watching the game while you scarf your pizza. more
