Lamb Shank what a delight! 4/27/2012

We ordered and shared family style. Husband had the Agnolotti and enjoyed it, Melanzane eggplant parm was also very good. My pappardelle with braised lamb shank was a delight. The server was very friendly towards our toddler and engaged him in conversation, was attuned to not passing hot plates over him and we got a warm family feeling. We will be back. more

Quite disappointing 1/16/2010

I dont understand the hype of this place.. We went here for a friend's bday, and we were a party of 8. We made a reservation for 8:30 pm on a friday night, and two of our friends arrived 10 min early and they were told they could not seat them until all the party arrived. The rest of the party arrived exactly at 830 pm but we were not seated until 9 or 910 pm. Why even make a reservation if they are going to keep you waiting anyway? When we asked what was going on, the hostess told us that they were waiting for another large group to finish their meal so they could sit us at their table!. The hostess did not even look at us and did not apologize for the wait, and we were made to stand in the entrance for the whole 30 min, in the way of all the waiters and diners, very uncomfortable. When they finally seated us, the service was quite good, but the food was nothing to rave about. The lasagna had a very strange hard clump that was just disgusting. The Rindergulash was disappointing, (I mean gulash is supossed to have some spice and paprika, it was just sad). The Porchetta was underseasoned. The fetuccine nero had two minuscule scallops and then pasta lacked salt and pepper. All the dishes were bland, and for the price I would have expected something pretty good, it was NOT. The deserts were average, nothing extraordinary either. The place is nice and cozy, but the tables are too close together. The best thing of this restaurant was the Bossa Nova music. more

Serafina - Ambiance + Food + Wine = LOVE 8/25/2006

If you want a romantic night out with someone you love - anniversary, birthday... Or want to spark that romance with a love that MAY be about to bloom.... Serafina is your place. Especially if you can eat out on the patio, which you can almost all year long. When it's colder out, they'll pull out the space heaters, and if it starts to drizzle and everyone else goes in, they'll pull umbrellas over you and you'll have the whole patio to yourself. Acts of weather not withstanding, Serafina has fabulous earthy and sophisticated European ambiance that puts you at ease while transporting you far away. The food is simple and elegant, but truly delicious - stuff you're not likely to prepare for yourself. I think this is one of the most romantic places in the city - and it's not overly expensive. So, in answer to your question, Serafina is a great place to celebrate an anniversary, or just any random Tuesday that you realize how lucky you are to have what and who you have... more

Really nice place to have dinner 8/16/2006

My wife and I went here a few weeks ago for a late dinner and sat on the patio in back. It was a really nice night. They have a big wine list (a number of half bottles, too), and we were happy with the food. The bar is a great place to sit and wait for your table. I suggest getting reservations, though. more

Good food, good ambience 8/11/2006

I have had good dependable meals at Serafina, the food is good, and the service is usually superb. I find it a tad bit pricey if you want to order salad, entrée, wine and dessert, but no overly so. I was a little disappointed when I went for lunch last week. The patio/courtyard is fabulous in the summer, and has the feeling of a little square in Italy. But there were a few details that did bother me about my experience. I had to ask three times for more coffee before some actually showed up, yet our server didn't seem to be all that busy. Same went for water, our glasses were empty more often than not on our table. The ravioli dish I ordered was described as being served with a "Heirloom Tomato sauce with Arugula" What I got was ravioli dressed in butter/ olive oil and halves of tasteless cherry tomatoes and a few traces of extremely limp arugula leaves (maybe 5). I felt it was just not what had been described on the menu. It was not a "sauce," it was more of a garnish on my dish. I was unimpressed with the quantity of tomatoes, and disappointed to find them not what I would think of "Heirloom" Tomatoes: gorgeous, ripe, sometime ugly things, bursting with flavor that has NOT been bred out of them for aesthetic reasons. These were anemic, tasteless cherry tomatoes. When I asked our server about it, she told me they were Heirloom Cherry tomatoes. I know that such a thing exists, but would find it hard to believe that the chef would be happy that tomatoes had made it to the table, or that the menu wouldn't mention that they were cherry or grape size... This experience would not keep me from going back to Serafina, the food is typically quite good, as well as the service, but I might question returning for lunch, because it seems that the eye to detail that appears at dinner is not the same at lunch, and the entrées are a bit pricey at lunch. (approx. average of $14) more

A fabulous night! 7/25/2006

My husband and I spent a very nice evening at dinner at Serafina last night. We sat by the open windows next to the outdoor patio and enjoyed both the breeze and the ambiance from within the restaurant. We had difficulty deciding on which of the entrees to choose - the selection was wide and each sounded so good! We were not disappointed - our food was amazing. The servers are prompt and provide minimal interruptions. My only suggestions for them would be to change their bread and offer a plain extra virgin olive oil for dipping...the one they have is wonderful, but heavily infused...might detract from the flavors of your plate. Overall, this is a place to come back time for dessert! more

The Most Darling Italian Restaurant on East Lake! 7/23/2006

I've been to many Italian restaurants around Seattle, but I must say Serfina has left a lasting impression with me. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staffs are all very friendly. I was there for lunch a couple of days ago and requested for outdoor seatings. This is one of my favorite outdoor sitting restaurant in Seattle. The place really makes me feel like I'm in a small town in Italy. The food was also amazing. I love the calamari, it's not fried like most places, and very delicious! The affogato was also very good, a simple dessert for a summer lunch. The price is very affordable. My three course meal for lunch cost me $12.95! Highly recommended! more

Serafina's Got a Great Bar and Good Food 6/16/2006

I love Serafina's bar. There, I said it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a lush and don't drink at bars too often but when I am in the mood for an after-work cocktail I can't think of many places better suited for my tastes than Serafina. Located in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood, it's a stone's throw from my office which is great but beside the point. Serafina's small, casual bar stands on its own as a place to meet friends and imbibe. The bartenders there are really friendly and knowledgeable about the wine list, cocktails, and even the beers on tap. Ask them for recommendations and you'll be glad you did. I've also had a couple of meals at Serafina which I've enjoyed. I've never been blown away by the cuisine (pretty standard Italian) but it's always been good. more

Probably my favorite eating destination: Serfina 4/10/2006

My wife and I love Serafina, the food is great. The staff is very friendly and well educated about food. Their wine selection is huge, and the wait staff seems to be very knowledgable regarding the entire selection of wine. They even have an outdoor patio! more

Delicious and a really cute place 4/6/2006

The ambiance is great in this little east side restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious! They also have a great happy hour! Cheap wine and beer and some fantastic options from the menu, from creamy pasta dishes to garlicky calamari. The staff are super friendly and it's a pleasure to dine at Serafina overall. more

YUM! 3/15/2006

Great food and the best atmosphere in Seattle 2/20/2006

I am a bit biased about Serafina because it's our neighborhood restaurant. The food is great and the staff always makes you feel at like a valued guest. the food is good and I didn't think the portions were to small, maybe smaller then some Italian restaurants but that is a sign of how ridiculous the portions are at those other joints. If you plan on going make sure to have reservations and plan on taking your time, the charm is lost if you rush in and out. more

One of our favorite romantic spots 1/20/2006

The food is northern Italian, so we are not in pig out at Bucca Di Beppa land (that's another review for another time). This place like Sostenza specializes in some of the great northern cuisines. Their gnocchi is quite good and their dinners can get very crowded so get there early. more

Pretty Good 12/19/2005

I went to Serafina with some co-workers and enjoyed the experience overall. It's a nice little restaurant and bar, which could be considered a downfall (it was a little cramped). The temperature was also a little too warm, but the fact is I liked the ambience of the place. I thought the food was pretty good, although a couple of the people I was with were a little disappointed. It could have been the fact that it was lunch though, as they probably care more about the dinner crowd. This sounds like a picky review, but you will definately be satisfied with your meal. Reasonable prices as well for an Italian restaurant. more

Nice and comfortable place to have Italian food 11/29/2005

Nice and comfortable place to have Italian food. I like dining at Serafina, they have a full bar, a small garden to sit outside and a cozy ambiance. The food is not great though. more

Unique fun place to eat 10/29/2005

I've been to Serafina about 3 times now, and each time loved it; The first time I took my Sis there for her B.D. and she took advantage of me, so I walked away broke, although satisfied with a good eating experience. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant, kinda funky, people having a goof time, can be close quartered though, but I enjoyed myself each time. Liked it so much I got my Sis a gift Cert so she can indulge again. more

Not just noodles and sauce 9/27/2005

Having been spoiled in my life by some outstanding Italian-American food in Little Italy, New York, and in Toronto, I'm generally disappointed by Italian-inspired cuisine in Seattle. Serafina, however, rocked my socks. Even for vegetarians, there are several options. Try the pesto gnocchi or spinach and ricotta dumplings. The wine selection is fantastic. The wait staff is attentive. The jazz band didn't really play jazz music, per se, but they were good at what they were playing. Eastside professionals and Queen Anne yuppies congregate here for work parties and first dates. Still, as the lesbian couple from Capitol Hill, we didn't feel out of place. more

Serafina 8/18/2005

What a nice place for a date. Look to spend $75 for two people with wine here. The food is great—vaguely Italian, definitely northwest. Good wine selection, a very cool atmosphere: eclectic, dark, warm, and inviting. I hear there’s a back patio in the garden, but we didn’t get to it because of a rehearsal dinner. It must be nice, then, right? more
