$75 parking tickets, I won't shop downtown Denver ever again 6/21/2010

I got a $75 parking ticket because I stopped in a little store at 16th and Welton, to buy a small gift for my wife. The $2 I put in the meter had run out minutes before i got back, so I had a $75 parking ticket. So guess what? I won't ever do that again! From now on, I will shop somewhere else. The city of Denver can put those stores right out of business and then who are they going to fine for parking? Never again will they shaft me. Not worth a $75 ticket. And Cherry Creek Mall has free parking and is all indoors. I'm going back to malls. Pros: Go to a mall, it is inside and the city won't nail you. Cons: Mostly chain stores anyway, why bother? more

Great walking area 1/17/2009

This is a great Downtown. Denver should be proud, they did just about everything right.\r The only issue is the bums panhadling for money. I travel to Denver on business on a regular basis and love the area, but I get harased for spare change almost every time. more

Great People-Watching, Cool Stores 9/18/2006

One of my earliest memories is being taken downtown by my mom and grandma for the grand opening of 16th Street Mall in 1982. I loved it then when I was 2, and I love it even more now! I spent many happy hours strolling up and down 16th Street when I was in college over at CU-Denver. To this day, even though I now live in the Tech Center, I still try to make it a point to go down there at least once a month and just walk around, checking stuff out. It's just urban enough to be cool, yet has no pretentious air about it, like that which you'd find in Cherry Creek North or even Pearl Street Mall, to some extent. It's fun for everyone! Pros: Excellent people-watching, good vibe, ambience Cons: Food/drink a little pricey more

  • In Short
After the oil bust of the late '70s turned downtown into a ghost town, Denver needed a way to attract people back to the city. The 16th Street Mall was the first step in that...
