What happened to this place? What at one time was a laid-back little venue to see local bands and hang out late night has morphed into a monstrous amalgam of the bars to avoid in Gold Coast. Expensive drinks, velvet ropes, a "VIP" area (i.e. a room upstairs where the exact same stuff is happening as the downstairs), and so-so music are among the delights that await you in this club. more

Perfect for after-hours dancing 10/8/2002

Visiting from Austin, my friends and I were caught offguard by the late, late nights. Searching for the right after-hour dance club, we stumbled on Deja Vu and were so thankful. It was the first club of our long weekend that played a fair amount of hip-hop rather than the monotonous techno of other clubs we'd visited. Even the beer was reasonably priced compared to the steep prices of previous bars. Not the best crowd, but I'll take fending off a couple losers for some real hip-hop. Pros: music, beer prices, open late Cons: crowd, cover charge more

  • The Scene
Deco in design, this late-night hang features a wide-open black-and-white checked floor and moody blue lighting. Locals looking to casually sip cocktails head here early, but one of Lincoln Park's latest last calls ultimately brings in an already-stoked, singles-bent crowd looking to kick it up a notch. An upstairs space launched in mid-2003 and open on weekends has more of a lounge feel, with rooms full of curved-back couches.

    The Draw
An easy location and late hours nightly are two of Deja Vu's biggest attractions; a congenial crowd (read: good-looking guys and gals hot to hook up) is another. A makeshift stage frequently hosts live music, but this mostly DJ-entertained establishment jams danceable tunes downstairs, and hip-hop and R&B upstairs. A full bar offers a fair number of taps and typical mixed concoctions, but regular specials build loyalty.
