The SceneThis East Village institution has the well-meaning but standoffish charm reminiscent of an aging hipster. The muted silver walls in the back room look to be covered in a decade or so of dust, but the mirrors behind the front bar reflect well enough for preening. As one of the first in the area to welcome a gay crowd, the club enjoys a nice mix of persuasions.The DrawOn the weekends, it's 30-something punk types dressed in oodles of black and sporting ample eyeliner who frequent this too-cool saloon. House and trance--and plenty of '80s on Friday nights--play on the back room's earsplitting sound system, while a multitude of colored lights pulse with the beat. True to its divey status, the bar serves beers like Rolling Rock and screwdrivers in tiny plastic cups, but it's the Red Bull that really seems to get people going.
