horrible caterer il fornaio 8/23/2006

their catering service that basically comes with the hotel sainte claire is horrible...!!!! The sales manager would not correct contract so at almost every meeting my friend felt like correcting the same things over and over. they cooked food wrong. the caterer said she'll be around until 5pm on the event day but she left around 2pm. caterer said they'll get a suite room the night of the event, but it turns out they don't have it. they basically lied, forgot, and tricked my friend. more

awful Il Fornaio catering. 7/27/2006

The hotel has a restaurant Il Fornaio in the building which is hard to work with for events. The sales person is hard to work with. They don't care about keeping their words. They lies. They neglect that their client is on the same page as the caterer. more

Great Hotel Stay in San Jose 12/17/2002

While many hotels today are so impersonal, this hotel has a very friendly staff in addition to a great historic hotel. The lobby area that is made of antique wood and has a handpainted ceiling. The bedroom was very nicely done. The information in the room says that it is all residential style furniture that was bought in Italy. My bathroom has a handpainted ceiling. It also had a nice teak wood counter in the bathroom around the sink area. In addition, the pictures in the room were much more appealing that the standard pictures that are in most hotels. They were of a large rustic ranch somewhere south of the hotel. When it came to the bed, I found a feather mattress that made my sleeping very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. I will definitely be returning there when I go back to San Jose. Pros: Rooms, Staff, Great Bed more

It's OK 9/27/2002

Renovation of the 70+ year old building was very well done, but...Sound insulation is not up to Hyatt standards, ie noisy. Some things in room weren't right, (lack of coffee cups, TV not working right). Staff is great, valet parking quick, and the food is Il Fornaio which is great. Pros: staff, food, valet parking Cons: noise, things not working more

  • The Sainte Claire is one of California's genuine grand hotels - a stately hotel with majestic, plush interiors situated in the heart of downtown San Jose.

Editorial
  • The Food
Il Fornaio has been the location for so many Silicon Valley deals, that it's no wonder folks turn to them for catered events as well. The award-winning breads, the accessible Italian fare and crackerjack service make it a natural for rehearsal dinners or employee picnics. At the core of the menu are antipasti, wood-fired pizzas, housemade pastas and grilled and rotisserie meats.

    The Scene
While they will cater offsite, their 3,425-square-foot meeting space is flexible enough to accommodate a wedding party or corporate fete. The Grand Ballroom, as they call it, can be separated into two rooms, and is connected to a nicely planted courtyard kitted out with white lights.

    Tips
The Hyatt Sainte Claire has lots of pleasant but antiseptic meeting spaces in which Il Fornaio struts its stuff. For small parties, ask instead for the Baker's Room, where the bread and pasta are made. It can fit 25 people.
