Best BBQ in New Mexico if not the USA 9/14/2010

Seriously good BBQ at a family run restaurant. The french fries are home cut and fresh and home cooked -- as are the collard greens and corn. Never had a BBQ sauce that good anywhere else, including the South. more

Pretty good! 6/27/2010

It's been about a year since we dared to try another BBQ restaurant in ABQ after the awful experience at the place that was rated #2 here. (Note - we moved here from Kansas City, so we know good barbecue...) We tried some brisket and baby back ribs in take out form. The brisket was very good. Tender, good smokey flavor and not at all greasy. The babybacks were ok. The flavor was good, but they were a bit tough. We like that rib meat to just fall off the bone.... The good news is we will return to Powdrell's and give their regular ribs a try and will definitely go back for more brisket! Pros: Brisket more

Excellent BBQ Beef Sandwich 8/11/2006

Nice and pleasant service. We had the BBQ beef sandwich and baby back ribs which were very good. The potato salad and corn on the cob were also very good as was the french roll used for the sandwich. I would definitely return to this restaurant. Pros: Good sauce, excellent meat more

Simply Delicious 7/11/2006

Longtime residents of Albuqerque know Powdrell's for their Good 'Nuff BBQ. You can't go wrong with anything you decide to order but my favorites are the BBQ beef sandwich, to die for potato salad and perfectly cooked greens. There have been many new BBQ restaurants pop up in Albuquerque lately, but Powdrell's remains my favorite hands down. The family run restaurant always creates a super friendly atmosphere even when you order from take out Mrs. Powdrell will often come out to say hello. Powdrell's is simply delicious just try it once and you'll see why it's been around forever! Pros: atmosphere, food, owners Cons: closed on Mondays more

The Best BBQ 11/28/2002

I have eaten there twice in the past 2 weeks & the food was great. The first time I had the combo plate & there was so much food I had to take it home. The second time I had the smoked rib eye and it was like butter. The owners welcomed me to the restaurant the first time & remembered me when I went back. It was almost like going home. Pros: good food, great service, friendly staff more

BBQ 4 ME 8/11/2002

You can smell Powdrell's as you drive down Central. The food is incredible. Ribs, slaw, and beans for any occasion. Do yourself a favor and find out what BBQ is really about. more

It's Good Enough! 8/7/2002

Mr. Powdrell's is absolutely THE best barbeque you can wrap your lips around! The sauce is not wimpy, the ribs have some serious meat on them, and the smoked turkey is a great idea for an ""alternative"" on Thanksgiving Day. I have been a faithful Powdrell's customer for many years, and I gotta tell you... I LOVE these guys! My personal favorite is the beef ribs, but only if Joe Powdrell does them. He's got that special touch! We travel 200 miles on our ""Powdrell's pilgrimage"". Well worth the trip! Pros: Atmosphere, Menu, Service Cons: Sometimes Crowded more

  • In Short
It started with Mr. Powdrell's grandfather. Over the years the family worked to perfect his recipe for hickory-smoked barbecue, but it was Mr. Powdrell who got it just right....
