still a great dive bar. 11/13/2005

MOI is a great dive. Unpretentious, good selection of bottled beer (shame the taps are gone) decent service. Quite smoky on weekend nights. Great quirky staff and an abundance of people watching om the weekends. Tends to get packed late on weekends. Pros: divey ambiance, location, jukebox Cons: smoky (weekends) more

A good time 3/13/2004

Wanna know what's cool? A bar with real people, a great selection of bottled beer, a couple dogs running around and a few bartenders with some real attitudes. If you can deal with that, you can have a good time at MOI. If you want to yap on your cell while you sip a Mohito, maybe you should head back to Old City with the rest of the wannabes. more

Arrogant Poseurs 9/19/2003

Although some of the folks who come in are pretty cool, it is run by the most pseudo-hip arrogant poseur I have ever met. For those of us who remember when it was hip to be hep, it's a joke to see the condescending frown across the bar when you check your wireless email (when microwaved crappy food is on O.K. technology, and a CD jukebox is cool, one shouldn't judge). more

Oh well 7/10/2003

There are becoming fewer and fewer reasons to live in Northern Liberties. I was so excited as new places opened up and old places got a facelift, but now, well I miss the W&J. This used to be a cool place to just hang out and now it's weird with weird people. And one of the owners is so arrogant my best friend will never come here again. I didn't mean for this review to be so negative. The place is okay, but if you're going to fix a place up, the least you could do is actually fix the place up. more

Not a dive 6/9/2003

I read somewhere that this was a dive bar and cheap. I was disappointed and surprised. Though it looks like a dive from the outside, it most certainly isn't. Three section: front bar area (with dentist chair and car seat), pool tables, and folding chairs, etc. Beers were the normal price but a decent bottles selection. Dogs were welcome. Low key, friendly hang-out. While it won't be replacing Mickey G's as the place I go when the bank acct is low, I will def be back here. more

Go Here 3/2/2003

A good local bar that is both relaxing and entertaining. Make sure to grab a Golden Monkey and sit in the old dentists chair in the middle of the floor. more

the hang out 10/3/2002

This is the place you get to hang out in before the rest of the trendy world tries to over run it, which the owners will never let happen here. This is what a bar should be. It has not been oversold to attract millions of people. Rather it offers a great mix. Certain nights are laid back and certain nights are a great party. Ministry is the best neighborhood bar around. No tvs blaring sports, just all the locals hanging out shooting a little stick and drinking a couple beers. Restaurant people from all around town come to hang out here. Pros: inexpensive, low key more

Editorial
  • In Short
The interior of the former W & J hasn't changed much since it was sold to its new owners. The door into the bar remains relatively unadorned by signage. Once inside, college and slightly older drinkers are greeted by minimal decor: The back room has folding chairs, card tables and paneling on the walls. Cheap Yuengling, tabletop Ms. Pac-Man, pool tables and a jukebox featuring 1992's greatest alternative rock hits make this a local favorite.
