Our out of town wedding guests stayed here and all seemed to have an excellent stay. Pros: Great customer service, atmosphere more

Wonderful Stay 10/21/2008

I stayed here recenty for a 1 night stay and had a great experience with my boyfriend. The room and it's amenties were super nice. The bathroom was amazing, I just wish I had bought bubble bath. We had cocktails at the lounge and it was a chill atmosphere. We had also ordered late night room service and had the Philly Lunchbox, it came with a pint of Ben & Jerrys, it was a sweet surprise..we were expecting just a few scoops. OH and love the big flat screen TV! They held our bags as we checked out and toured the city and the valet guys offered my boyfriend coffee too when he overheard him saying he needed a cup as well. Great experience and very pleased. Pros: Bed, Bath, Flat Screen, Big Room, Service Cons: It can be pricey, but worth it's value. more

Overpriced small servings, Pretty but boring atmosphere 8/17/2007

I chose Chez Colette because the reviews were good, it sounded pretty, and it was close to the Academy of Music, where I was going to a show. I was concerned that it would be overpriced, that the serving sizes would be small, and that it might not be so fun to eat in a restaurant that has a reputation for being empty. Unfortunately, all that turned out to be true. The hours are actually not 6 am to 11 pm. We arrived at 4:45 for our 5 pm reservation, and there were no staff in the restaurant. When a host arrived, he told us the restaurant did not open until 5. We sat in the Sofitel Hotel lobby and had a drink, which was nice. The service in the lobby was very attentive and friendly, and the service in the restaurant itself was very friendly as well, although slow - we did not get out until 7 pm. The big problem was high prices for a very small amount of food. The food itself was excellent - we had stripped bass, filet mignon, and the crab cake, plus the mixed greens salad - - all really well prepared, very attractive. Just wasn't much of it. No one in my group minds paying high prices, but at Chez Collette, you really don't get your money's worth. The decoration of the restaurant is very pretty, but it's not ""fin de siecle"" style, not really. It's a fairly nice hotel restaurant, but very reminiscent of, well, a hotel, and it is empty of people, which causes a lack of festive feel. Not romantic, not much ""atmosphere."" One thing that was exceptional was that we were given complimentary desert and coffee, I think because we were sent to the hotel lobby to wait for the restaurant to open - this was very generous of them. I wouldn't go back, though, because of the high-priced small servings and the sort of boring atmosphere. I would suggest Brasserie Perrier on Walnut St. as a good alternative, or Vallani's on Pine St. Pros: Friendly service Cons: Overpriced, small food servings more

Stay Here, Sofitel Philly is Fantastic 4/27/2007

My girlfriend and I (seemingly the opener for all of my Citysearch reviews...hmm) stayed here for a night a few weeks back during our weekend sojourn to Philadelphia. We're New Yorkers who wanted to do something different without having to travel far. We settled on Sofitel based on positive reviews both here and on other sites and I literally could not have been more impressed. The staff was delightful from moment one -- from check-in to valet to after-dinner drinks and dessert at Le Bourse. Even the most modest room was beautiful 5-star quality with a luxury bed and bathroom to match. I would literally like this bathroom in my own home, ok? If that wasn't enough, we checked out bags for 5 hours after checkout so that we could walk the city Sunday afternoon. While waiting for valet to bring us my car, the bellhop heard me make an off-hand comment about wanting coffee for the road and he said ""would you like me to bring you and your girlfriend a cup?"" He proceeded to go to the back halls and emerge with two cups of coffee with all the trimmings, just because he could. It's the little things. Pros: Delightful service, great value, wonderful rooms/amenities Cons: zero more

Weekday Lunch 10/25/2006

I had one of the best weekday lunches here a while ago. The service was excellent and the food was satisfying. Definetly try here if you're sick of Marathon or grabbing something in Liberty. Pros: Lunch more

Beautiful Hotel! 8/9/2006

I'm originally from the Philadelphia area, but was back in town for a wedding. Since my husband has never been to Philly, I was quite excited to make it a good experience and show him what an amazing city it can be. The Hotel Sofitel was the perfect choice. The room was gorgeous and spacious (we had a Superior King, I believe). The warm tones and wood accents really made it very welcoming and cozy. Even the bathroom was roomy with very charming touches. The bed was unbelievable, like laying down on a cloud. I think we may have to buy one of the feathertops as our bed at home now seems like a rock in comparison. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, couldn't ask for better service. The location was excellent for exploring the city. It's very close to Rittenhouse Square and the Historic district/Society Hill/Penns Landing was a very quick cab ride away. It's also very convenient to some of the best restaurants in the city. Also, the bar was a nice place to unwind after a day of exploring. I highly recommend the Key Lime Martini. We would go back in a heartbeat and have already decided to look into staying at other Sofitel locations during our travels. Pros: Beautiful rooms/Friendly staff/Great location!!! Cons: Parking is expensive more

Lovely, just lovely 7/24/2006

I took my boyfriend there back in february and he is still raving about it today. I had planned a weekend for us in Philly and in no way was I disappointed! We had gotten one of their king suites on one of the top floors and everything from the room to the service was wonderful. A plus was the amazing shower with plenty of room and there fab bar/restuarant! Believe me, if your looking for beauty and comfort at a reasonable price, this is it! Oh and their beds had to be sent from heaven itself. The beds are so comfortable that they offer an order catalog so that you can adorn your bed with their comfort. In fact, the bedding was so great, that when we got home, we ordered ALL the bedding for our bedroom and guestroom. This was truely an experience to remember Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: Location more

unbelievable hotel in downtown Philly 8/24/2005

Stayed here Aug. 23rd '05 (midweek) in one of their suites (GET A SUITE; it's not much more expensive!!!!) and was impressed with everything...from check in to check out. This place is charming, and it has great character. I selected it after reading all the great reviews on this site, and I couldn't be happier. I wouldn't even bother researching other 4-star hotels in Philly, there is no way any others are this good. Stay here, and if you aren't as impressed as I am, I will be SHOCKED. A+. Pros: VERY romantic, employees that care, beautiful rooms more

The bed...ohhhhhh the bed! 8/5/2005

I think this is my new favorite hotel in the city. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting in my room at the Sofitel writing this review. This is my first stay here, but what was outstanding to me is that once I was in my room, I could hear neither street sounds nor noises from nearby rooms or the hall (I am on the 14th floor). What makes it shine to me, though, is the bed. It's like sleeping on a cloud, with its soft pillows, padding, and comforter. The best rest I've had in longgggggg time. Perfect location near Rittenhouse Square. I would highly recommend it. Pros: location, creature comforts, atmosphere more

pleasant surprise 6/28/2005

A recent trip to Philadelphia had me staying at Hotel Sofitel. On my last evening in town I decided to dine at Chez Collette. A good move. I had one of the best meals EVER! Starting w/a green tomato gazpacho style soup then a perfectly prepared rack of lamb over soft polenta w/grilled asparagus. Veuve Clicquot champagne and a decadant choclate dessert rounded out the meal. I was sorry to see ,as had been mentioned in previous reviews, a very empty dining room. Myself and seven other diners on a Monday evening at 7PM. Also, the service was impeccable. Guests and locals should check this out. I will be back. Pros: great food, great service, great prresentation more

Fabulous!!! 6/4/2005

My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel Philadelphia for our 10th anniversary (6-3-05) and what an experience! The best hotel we have every stayed in. The service was awesome, the suite was absolutely gorgeous and immaculate! We were greeted with a welcome package (Evian water, 3 boxes of chocolates and an anniversary card) that added to the special occasion. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a breafast in the restaurant and it was superb. Great atmosphere and very romantic! We will never stay anywhere else in the city- we found our place- The Sofitel Philadelphia. We highly recommend it! Pros: cleanliness, great staff, spaciousness more

TOP NOTCH!!! 4/2/2005

I have just returned from my first trip to Philly with my wife. I was directed to this hotel through citysearch(top romantic hotel) and it did not disappoint! The Hotel Sofitel in Philadelphia is without question one of the very best hotels we have ever stayed at in any city! This place is first class in service from start to finish: bellhop, front desk, concierge, restaurant staff, room service, etc. It was a rainy Saturday and they even supplied my wife and I with umbrellas for use for the entire day! The room was spacious and amenities appreciated. The turndown service with chocolates were out of this world! My objective now is to do everything in my power to stay at the Sofitel in all cities! Pros: Large Bathroom, Quality service, Amenities Cons: Music in Bar area more

Surprisngly Good 3/15/2004

I read the other reviews but went anyway. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it! The service was polite, prompt, and professional. The food was excellent (I'd give it four stars out of five), and the atmosphere was Paris in the 20's with a slight modern touch. Although, like these other reviews, there were few customers, it was 5:00 on Sunday. Overall, I would definitely recommend it. Pros: atmosphere, food , service more

A hidden jewel near Rittenhouse 8/28/2003

Excellent, world class service! We have been there three times and have always been so impressed that we would never consider staying anywhere else. The rooms are very stylish and quiet, as the layout of the hotel has the elevators in a separate area away from the rooms. Rooms on the north side are afforded a great view of Liberty Place. Try the suites, as they are well worth the extra cost. The hotel is located not far from the Avenue of the Arts and Rittenhouse Square, and there are many excellent restaurants, shops, and boutiques within a few blocks. Prepare to be pampered if you stay here! more

Mr. 2/15/2003

Although the food was fairly good, overall, we were very disapointed. Our dinner started with a stained tablecloth that was replaced graciously by the host. Service was adequate at best and our waiter, while efficient, did not go out of his way to be friendly or offer suggestions about the menu or wine selections. Restaurant atmosphere was your basic Holiday Inn, not what I would expect from a supposedly upscale European Hotel. Pros: Not crowded Cons: Little atmosphere, Service, wine selection more

exquisite 10/22/2002

verrrrrrrrrrrry romantic and what a wonderful staff and accomadations to say the least more

A pleasant surprise 10/9/2002

After reading the noted reviews, I thought I had an obligation to put something different out there. In early May, a friend and I decided to give Chez Colette a try. We have a monthly habit of trying some place new and this was it. The place was empty but for one other table, which was rather discouraging. An eatery with one table filled at 7pm on a Fri evening is always unsettling. Nonetheless, we were greatly impressed with the service (sincere and prompt), the food (wonderful calamari and the filet was phenomenal) and the ambiance (warm and welcoming). I have suggested it to many people without hesitation. Something I can't do for many other Philadelphia eateries where attitude and mediocre food are all it takes to get on the map (see Trust). Pros: Nice setting, Varied menu, Great service Cons: Too many empty tables more
