What Happened? 8/8/2009

I loved having an outdoor music venue in the area... It put our fine, beautiful city on the tour route... To actually complain about the parking is ridiculous... i've gone to concerts since I was 6 years old, starting with the Beatles in Dallas in ""62... As an adult music lover, i went to many concerts at Verizon, absolutely thrilled that my city had such a great place to go for great live music, regardless of a few trivial negatives ..To.see Aerosmith & ZZ Top I had to go to Houston... I thought our Verizon was better It breaks my heart... What's the deal? Pros: Music Venue Cons: No Music Venue more

great venue site 8/27/2008

since moving to san antonio a year ago, we have attended several concerts at this venue. we have enjoyed all the concerts, journey, cheap trick, foreigner, average white band, etc. i was disappointed to hear the amphitheater is up for sale and will defintely not be used as a concert site. although traffic is a problem at the site as is parking, trying to go to the at and t center or the alamodome downtown would be even worse. downtown is bad enough and parking for the alamodome is not much better. the prices for food and beverages at the verizon are still very high-8 to 9 dollars for a beer, 6 bucks for a coke. don't even ask about food prices. however, because it has such a large lawn seating area, we have seen numerous parents with children of all ages attending the concerts because lawn seating allows for reasonably priced tickets of 10-20 dollars per ticket, affordable for families. it would be a great lost for this area if the amphitheater were sold, so i plead for the selma city leaders to fight to keep this concert site./ Pros: lawn seating, reasonably priced tickets, great artists Cons: food and beverages too expensive more

Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick>>> Selma July 25, 2008 8/1/2008

There is a serious problem with parking at this venue, it made for an interesting night. Someone should open up the race track parking next door to make it easier on concert goers. Once in the venue, we caught a brief glimpse of Cheap Trick they sounded pretty good. Heart put on an excellent show. The highlight of the night was during their encore, Heart played the Who's ""Love Reign O'er Me"". Nancy Wilson is still one of the best guitarists in the Rock N Roll business (male or female). Ann Wilson could sing a dinner menu and it would sound awesome. There was a lot of excitement in the air. Journey with Mr. Pineda sounded fabulous, he is also very much the showman. It was such a pleasure to hear Neal Schon play those classic licks from those familiar Journey songs that captured my attention when I was a teenager. I recommend catching this act if you have not seen it. It was a fun night, even though the parking situation was not. Pros: Show was awesome Cons: Parking stunk more

Heart, Journey, Cheap Trick Concert July 25, 2008 7/29/2008

I've been going to see concerts at this site for years. Everytime we have gone it has been great. Sorry to say that I might not ever want to go back to this place to see a concert again. Everytime we have gone we have had traffic, or parking problems. On this day it was about 6:30 and we were exiting at the Selma Exit which is about 1.5 to 2 miles from the concert site. The concert started at 7:00. When 7:45 came around we thought something bad happened. We called The Ampitheatre and they told us Heart was about to start playing. Like other people have said we were waiting in line for about 2 hours. That is when I realized that again it had to do with parking issues. I am so upset that this took place because we came to this concert to mainly see Cheap Trick (which I have seen open up for other artists but my friends hadn't seen yet) but more so Heart who I have never seen live. We had driven up to Selma to see a different line up of Journey 2 years ago so we were not as exited to see them as much as we were Heart. Journey's performance did not dissapoint us. Needless to say that they still have not corrected this traffic problem which is not the first time I've been in this situation. The other times were not as bad because we only missed the opening band which was no big deal but this experience took the cake. I thought the time I missed about 15 minutes of a Motley Crue concert in my home town of Laredo was bad; due again to poor planning. This has got to be the worst concert experience of my life. Concession stands also have expensive prices. The only positive I can give this concert site is that they do bring great artists. Just the night before I had a great night watching Bryan Adams and Foreigner with no trouble or complaints at all, but to finish it off like this I feel like I just threw my $350 in the garbage for the 3 awesome tickets I purchased. Pros: Awesome Artists Cons: Terrible parking problems / poor acces for traffic to flow well more

They just can't get it right.... 7/28/2008

This place has got to be my least favorite concert venue of all time. Let's review: Pros: It's outside? Cons: Access, Parking, Price, more

A total ripoff - won't be coming back! 7/27/2008

I have to go with everything the guy below me said. This is just a horrible rip off. I bought tickets for my husband and me to see Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick. We sat is traffic for two hours just to drive two miles to get in to the venue. There is only one lane in to this place that they let you know about if you are from out of town. We are from Austin. Needless to say, we missed Heart and Cheap Trick. Journey was great. But, honestly we have scratched this dump from the list. It is more worth it for us to drive to the Woodlands or Dallas where we have had much better experiences and got to see everyone we paid to see. The beers were $8 a pop, the people were rude, and the sound started out good on Journey but then I think they turned it up just a bit too much so the people on the lawn could hear and then it was just really bad after that. Anyway, we will definitely not be wasting our money on this place anymore. Save yourself some aggravation and just go to the Woodlands or Dallas for a much metter experience. more

This venue was the worse planned development I have ever seen and I am a member of the American Planning Association 7/26/2008

It was my first time to go to the amphitheater and I really tried to make this a nice concert with the wife and her friend but it was doomed for failure because of the the Verizon Wirless Amphitheater traffic handling and parking. We bought three tickets in Section 305 which is the farthest section from the stage that still has sit down chairs. Total for the tickets was $350 which I thought was too expensive for Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick but I splurged for the girls. Plus I bought $20 VIP parking tickets. When we exited the freeway it was 6:40 and the concert started at 7:00. The amphitheater is only one mile from the freeway so we thought we had it made but the one mile trip into the parking lot took two hours and we missed Cheap Trick and Heart. If you can imagine, they funnel all the traffic off the interstate highway on to a one lane road into the parking area. Two hours of sitting with out any bathrooms, you are locked in and under their control. The VIP parking did not get us in any quicker; it only let us park a 100 yards closer; don't waste your money. Journey was great but not worth $370 and the beers were $10 each!!! I am telling you that you will never get me back to that place even if my life depends on it. And what I cannot understand is this place has been opened for years and they have not done any thing to fix the problem. You know they are making millions of $ off of us but they still do not do a thing to help the proble. Pros: good bands Cons: getting into the parking lot took two hours!!! People honking, griping, flipping the bird and angry driving! more

Great facility,but HORRIBLE parking 10/29/2002

Once I got to the concert, I loved it. You never felt too crowded. Of course everything costs too much, but you expect that. Here is the problem. Every good concert is going to have a wait in the parking lot, but after Aerosmith, not only did it take 45 minutes just to get to the road, but there were some exits that were blocked on purpose! Either get enough people to direct the traffic from each exit, or wait until the roads live up to the facility. Pros: shows, ambience Cons: PARKING more
