Long Time Customer who LOVES Il Posto 10/8/2008

I have been a long time customer of Il Posto. In fact about 10 years. The new menu is the best selection of Fine Italian Food offered in the entire city. I eat out alot and really love Italian Food. The staff is the best they have ever had and the new owners really care about the experience their customers have while dining at Il Posto. They have me comming to the restaurant more than ever. From a long time customer who loves this restaurant if you have not been it is a must to try. For the customers who haven't been in a while you need to go in and taste the new menu and wine selection for yourself! Pros: It is a fine italian experience Cons: none - from a long time client more

Loved it , Loved it, Loved it all! 9/20/2008

I have heard several months back the restaurant was under new management. And the rumors were right. They have a recently updated dinner menu that will knock your socks off if you are like me and love great italian food. I would recommend reservations if you decide to visit this restaurant. We walked in the there was about a 15 minute wait. The selections on the new menu was worth every minute of the wait and the wine list is exceptional. This is a must visit again during the upcomming holiday season. Pros: Wonderful experience all around. Cons: Not a place to take smaller children more

Finest Italian 9/16/2008

Some of the best Italian food I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I have recommend this restaurant to all of my family and friends Pros: Great Food more

HORRIBLE service 8/20/2008

I truly hope mine was an infrequent & isolated experience as I would expect decent service for the prices...other than our water our drinks were never refreshed, nor were we ever asked if we were doing ok, needed anything, etc. The only times our server came to our table was when we placed our order, when the food came to the table, and to ask about dessert. I tried to justify the lack of service to the possibility of a ""packed house"" unfortunately including our table there were only 5 tables. When we did catch a glimpse of our server, he was so preoccupied ordering other staff around - almost to a dining distraction, I was embarrassed to have chosen this restaurant to entertain my clients for the evening. The food was fine, however not good enough for me to return for a solo & thirsty dining experience. Cons: our table was ignored by the server more

Lunch before the Theater 7/31/2008

Wonderful food! Magnificent atmosphere! My friends and I had lunch there before going to the Fisher Theater and let me tell ya? the restaurant itself was a show! The waiters were in ?full tux and immaculate! They were courteous and attentive. We left the restaurant feeling like royalty. The food was Heaven! We made our reservations online. The website was helpful and very informative, we knew exactly what we wanted before we got to the restaurant, which saved us a lot of time. I recommended Il Posto to ?everyone.? ""Visit the website!"" Pros: Comfortable and relaxing atmosphere more

Out of this World Italian Cuisine 7/31/2008

My husband took me to Il Posto for the first time last week for our 25th anniversary as a suprise. He knows how much I love Italian cuisine. This restaurant reminded me of the dinners we had on our honeymoon in Rome and Venice. My husband had the Executive Chef Matteo Giuffrida come to our table and prepared a special meal for our celebration. I felt like I was on my honey moon again after 25 years. Pros: Out of this world Italian Cuisine. Cons: Out of this world Italian Cuisine more

The Place To Be - Italian Fine Dining 7/21/2008

For those special celebrations when you want every thing to be perfect there are few restaurants that can deliver perfection. Il Posto happens to be one of those special places. From the food, to the service, to the wonderful Italian atmosphere you really do get it all. I took my mother there for her 85th birthday and it was every thing I have come to expect from Il Posto. The entire staff made sure my mom felt like she was the center of attention. You can count on it that my next special celebration I will be making reservations at Il Posto again. I can't say thank you enough - Shirley Pros: One of the best dining experiences I have ever had Cons: It is fine dining more

Best Italian in Detroit! Hands down 9/30/2007

I hadn't visited Il Posto since they changed ownership because I had heard bad things about the change. But I had friends in town who insisted on eating there, so we went. I don't know what more anyone could expect from the service or food, but everything was PERFECT. The place hadn't seemed to change at all, except for the faces.\r \r The new-ish chef (Matteo?) was very charming and came to our table and explained the specials for the evening, suggested appetizers, and joined us for a champagne toast on the house. He even brought out a live lobster that was to be my friend's dinner. There are pictures of him with various celebrities and presidents at the entrance, so he's the real deal. The graceful maitre d' (who was definitely was directly from Italy) suggested the perfect food and wine pairings. And the tableside service is just like being in Italy.\r \r Excellent service, excellent food, excellent wine. Il Posto deserves all of the many awards hanging on its walls (Hour Detroit Rest. of the Year, AAA 4 Diamond, Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, etc etc etc). more

Food and Service Impeccable 1/15/2007

Great meal and service was impeccable and very friendly! Will go back there many times! Everything from the valet to the waiter to meeting the owner was perfect-just like in Italy, which I've been to several times. The quality and authenticity of the food was fabulous as well. Pros: Food, Ambience, Parking, Service more

Don't Make the Mistake of Going Somewhere Else 3/30/2006

This is the most romantic and authentic Italian restaurant in Detroit. The waiters are fresh from Italy and know what they are serving, never condesending toward anyone. This is the best carparccio's you will ever have. This is the destination restaurant you are searching for the anniversary, birthday or love of your life. Don't make the mistake of trying anything else. Pros: food, atmosphere, romantic Cons: danger of losing leas, little known, needs to advertise more

Fa Fa Fa 6/6/2005

great for expense accounts but too expensive for what is served.... Pros: foo foo Cons: value more

Not Too Shabby 2/2/2005

Pretty good food but alas, it is overpriced. Seems to be the norm for this area. Although not the best of the metro Detroit Italian restaurants but one of the top five or six for sure. Certainly the best around the Southfield/Birmingham/Bloomfield area. Whatever you do, don't let the owner pick your wine or dinner as he is not shy about $$$. Cons: Overpriced more

About Il Posto 6/18/2004

Hello, I am an immigrant from Bologna, Italy and trust me I know authentic Italian food when I eat it. I personally know most of the workers at Il Posto (which means ""The Place"" in Italian) and about 90% of them are really from Italy. The owner of the restaurant, is also from Italy. The food that they provide is incredibly authentic, its like traveling back home for me because I'm surrounded by mouth watering Italian food and by very funny and kind people. I highly recomend this restaurant especially if you love Italy, its food, its people, or you just want to get a taste of Italy before you leave on a trip. Trust me, you won't regret going to Il Posto. Pros: Great Authentic Food, Very Friendly Staff, Loads of Fun more

Markup City 4/21/2003

Probably the best Italian restaurant in Southfield but certainly not the best in the entire metro Detroit area. It certainly is better than any close to it's location. Not a good value but the quality is good. Overpriced not because I can't afford it nor because I don't eat in expensive restaurants (which I do). Overpriced because I recognize a quality to value ratio. I am not adverse to spending my money but expect to recieve a product and/or service on par with others in the category. Watch out if the owner recommends a bottle of wine. $$$$ Pros: Decent Kitchen Cons: Overpriced more

Best Italian in Detroit 12/1/2002

The BEST Italian restaurant in Detroit. The only reason why people rate is as an average of 7 is because it is to pricey for certain people. If you want large amout of food family style, average price, and non gourmet Italian food, then this is not the place for you. My experiences have always been wonderful, the food is spectacular, and service is as sweet. It is worth the price. If you like fine dining this is the place. I give it a 10 Pros: great service, great food, very friendly Cons: none, none, none more

Place to Be Seen 11/6/2002

This restaurant had great service and a beautiful decor, but the food was overpriced and the servings were small. The entree I did order was great in taste and their lentil soup is amazing. I would not go here again, but only because I have deemed it one of those ""Go here to be seen Oakland County establishments."" Pros: Atmosphere, Location, Food Taste Cons: Price, Snob Factor, Wait more

sky high 10/29/2002

The food is very good ,portions are small and the prices for both the food and wine are way out of line. Service is alittle too ""fake"" for me but was adequate. more

Pulling the Wool 9/25/2002

My experiences here can be summed up by one incident (of many) in particular. When I asked which of the desserts were housemade, I was told ""all of them"". Like it was a stupid thying for me to ask. The desserts were on a tiered cart in the dining room. When I mentioned that I had seen the exact same desserts in other Italian restaurants I was told, ""there are no other real Italian restaurants in the Detroit area"". When I pointed out that some of the dessert trays said Bindi (a company selling frozen pastries) right on them they acted like I was hallucinating. Unbelievable. I wonder what else they are lying about. more

Snobs 9/21/2002

There are enough decent places to dine at without having to be made to feel that you are lucky to be here. What a bunch of snobs. more

Rudely Ripped Off 9/17/2002

The food was good but they are very rude and impressed with themselves. Very overpriced too. I felt ripped off. Cons: Rude more
