I have shopped in this store for years and after the service I received there today will never return. After picking up my daughter and a friend's two children we stopped to purchase some snacks and gas. I asked if I could write a local check and they said yes but they needed to see it first. I have never had anyone ask this before, only to make sure the check number and proper id is available. I showed her the check and she said ""sorry, we don't take checks from NE Vancouver, I would need to get it approved by my manager."" I asked if she could and she went to the back room, the manager came out, stood about four feet back and said ""sorry"" without looking at my check. Her explanation was we only take ""neighborhood"" checks that are ""NW Vancouver."" Anyone who is familiar with North Vancouver knows that areas of NE are a matter of blocks away from this store, but NW runs along the I-5 well into South Hazel Dell which is certainly not their neighborhood. I cannot count the times I filled up my truck, boat and purchased food and snacks over the years at this store.
If I would have been told that the policy was not to accept checks, or that they only accept checks from people they know, people in the same zip code, I could have understood that. But a check from my part of town which is closer than many areas of ""NW"" was not allowed. So, everyone returned their snacks back to the shelves that they came from while the manager stood with her arms crossed in the middle of the store watching us. That was truly offensive. I have no outstanding bad checks anywhere, have never written them a bad check, nor have any of us ever acted in a way that would cause an employee to be concerned while we are shopping there.
So, my neighborhood in NE which is beautiful is in the wrong area for them and the manager just stopped short of escorting us out when I did not get upset or even tell them how ridiculous their policy is when it is far from logical. My favorite part is her walking behind me to the people line saying ""I'm sorry"" to each of them. The entire transaction took maybe four minutes.
Consider me the customer who will tell their friends, many of which live in the ""neighborhood"" and shop at this store every day exactly what their customer service was like for me today. This was not an employee having a bad day or running out of something they normally carry, it was rude and short-sighted.
Taking my dollars elsewhere!
Pros: None after today
