Editorial review from Citysearch 12/30/2012

I agree with the previous two comments. My advice to potential Ski World shoppers is BEWARE. This family-owned store in Virginia Beach subscribes to the antiquated policy of no refunds or credit on returned items AND they do not inform you of that upon purchase. Their world offers you, the consumer, no ability to change your mind or find that the item is no longer appropriate for your needs without repurchasing at their store. Their policy of store credit or exchange only works if they have alternative items for you. This is where a large part of the problem occurs for the customer as their inventory is minimal and localized to this warmer climate. \r Today I was caught at Ski World. In the rush to shop before Christmas I purchased long underwear that I later realized would not be warm enough for the conditions at our vacation destination. I returned the items only to be reminded of their policy of store credit or exchange by their sales clerk. I was upset because I had already purchased other items from there, as I have done for the past twelve years, and needed nothing else. So to be reminded that they now got to keep my $160 was mildly annoying. The manager on duty today had no ability to diffuse my annoyance; he actually escalated the situation and demeaned the fact that spending $600 at Ski World is purely an average amount of money. This manager asked me to leave the store because I dared to question and argue this store’s policy.\r Bottom line… Customer service at Ski World is non-existent. This is proven by their policy of no refunds or credit and their aggressive nature in defending that policy. My advice to everyone is either to shop on-line, head to Peter Glenn at Richmond, or go to Dick’s. At least your money will be returned to you at these better shopping locations.\r more

Unhappy customer, who needs that kind of stress 12/18/2011

I had a very Similar experience. This buisness uses a shaddy form of returns on items in that they only allow store credit. They are only very happy to tell you that, after you return to the store with the item and not at checkout. Even the few stores that do this online warn you before you finish cecking out. Due to the expensive nature of items there, store credit does not allow you to get what you need, holding up hundreds of dolars in store credit to buy things you don't need. I had a similar experience with boots, they were supposed to get me the size I wanted and when they could not, they got very upset and asked me to leave the store, They Got Upset not me. They claim to always know exactly what boot you need but fail to listen to the customer. I give them a very poor customer rating. You will not feel good about your purchase there, especially when it turns out to be a 550 dollar mistake. more

Terrible customer service 12/27/2010

unfortunately this is one of the few ski shops in the area. I've been shopping there for years and have enjoyed it; even though their prices are the same or higher than online. I recieved a pair of boots for christmas and wanted to exchange them for a different size. they told me the boots are not available in the size i wanted. so i called the manufacturer of the boots and they told me they have plenty in stock in the size and color i wanted. i called back and spoke with the guy again and he told me he was looking at their site and it said they have zero in stock. so i got on my laptop and looked, it said they have them in stock. i told this to the guy and he started arguing with me and told me the buy them from their site instead. which i would have done but i used gift cards to purchase the boots. i then asked if they would refund the gift cards and he said no. he then continued to argue with me about it and then he told me he was too busy to stay on the phone and was going to hang up. yet he's not too busy to go to their website. i then asked if i could speak with a manager and he told me he was the manager. i am very displeased with the lack of service and poor professionalism. i have the contact information for the owner of the shop and will be contacting him shortly. i would highly recommend not shopping here. save some money and shop online. as far as i'm concerned the only good thing about this place is the cheaper lift passes for snowshoe. more
