La Puente Restaurant

I just registered for CitySearch because I felt obligated to defend the La Puente I frequent. The food is unbeatable, hands down. It is always good (yes smothered burritos are the best) but the service doesn't suck. I have been going there for probably 20 years and have NEVER had a bad experience, not ONCE. They are fast, friendly, and did I say the food is the best?? I think the mob of reviews below me demonstrates, if anything, that some high maintenance, not very friendly, co-workers have nothing better at work to do than bomb a restaurant with inaccurate reviews. Having worked at a grocery store for 11 years, I would be the first to say that half the people on the planet walk around acting entitled to act like 5 year old brats. La Puente is the shiznit. more

Our work group has been going to La Puente for years on a nearly weekly basis. I am so sad to write that things have changed dramatically. No longer do we have our sweet waitress who always remembered us. Now we have a waiter who tries to overcharge and when you ask for a cup for your leftover drink says ""no"". Seriously, I couldn't drink it all & even offered to pay for the cup. When we approached the owner about the over charge he was rude & loud. The people behind us said they have a fight with him every time they come in. There was a day when their smothered burritos were worth the price. Now the chicken (even smothered) is dry, the servers are rude & the owner is the rudest. He has lost a contant group of fans. It is just not worth it. more

I want to do a NEGATIVE rating...not a 1 star!!\r \r My co-workers and I have been going to this La Puente for years for lunch. Today was the experience that will end that weekly tradition. The owner of this location has to be one of the most rude people I have EVER met! He is obnoxious, loud, overbearing, rude and likes to overcharge people!\r \r How difficult is it to write up ""today's special"" on our order? Apparently our waiter found it quite difficult and then charged us the a la carte menu price rather than the ""today's special"" price.\r \r When we brought it to the owner's attention (he was ringing us up)...his attitude seemed to blame US for the mistake! He was extremely loud and even the Customers standing in line behind us started talking about how terrible the service is and what a rude person he is.\r \r The owner REALLY needs to take some Customer Service classes! He has lost a LOT of business from my co-workers and myself.\r \r La Frontera...here we come!\r \r I LOVE the Ft. Union La Frontera...they have the BEST service and the BEST manager!\r \r Ask for Omar...he is the most amazing waiter I have EVER had the pleasure to be served by! more

Where do I begin?... first of all the food is already over priced then the waiter tried to charge us more. After asking him for a cup to take our drink with us he said ""no"" then the owner wanted to charge us $1 for a cup. After bringing the mistake of the over charge to the owner he called the waiter over and the waiter quickly corrected it for 4 of us. When it was my turn to pay for my food plus I had a take-out order the owner tried to over charge me and told me that I don't know what the special is. I grabbed one of his menu's and showed him where he had overcharged me more than $3 per special. \r \r This owner is very rude and unprofessional. Normally we get the rude, heavy waitress but today we got the rude little waiter who over charged us. You can always count on the rude owner to take things to a new level at La Puente. \r \r The 6 of us vowed never to go back. \r \r We will take our business to LaFrontera just around the corner on Fort Union where the service and prices are uncomparible. more

Yup. The service is mediocre at best and the attitude of the waiters is pretty dismal, but the food is CHEAP, the quantities are plentiful and the smothered burritos with cheese and onions are YUM-YUM-YUMMY! more

Service is fast and I have never been served cold food. They get you in and out, but they don't sugar coat. If you are going there to hang out and socialize then this isn't the place for you. Food is spicy, so if you don't like spicy food this isn't the place for you. There hamburger and foods like that aren't really edible. They are known for their verde. Stick to their spicy dishes if you don't want to be disappointed. One of the best fountain cokes in the valley! more

First of all if i didn't have to put at least one star on here i wouldn't i wouldn't even put on half a star maybe a spec for the beginning service but nothing more. My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant because he had been there before and was fairly impressed so I was like okay lets go. So once we found the place we were put at our table quickly and where given our drinks fairly quick along with our menus. We looked over the menu, very basic nothing entirely interesting or that stood out. We decided to get a bean and cheese burrito to share, the turn around time was pretty good...if your receiving hot food..which we did not. This food was barely warmed like it had been placed in a microwave for 15 seconds and pulled out right away. The rice and beans that came on the side were just as equally cold. After the waitress dropped the food off she didn't come back and check on us, even though we kinda sat and picked at our food, we would have called someone over if anyone was in the room. It seemed as though the wait staff had completely disappeared. So slowly and painfully we ended up eating our food, cause we were hungry. But as we got to the end it was like at least for me I had to gag the food to go down, still with no communication from our waitress. Any other restaurant I would have gone to the wait staff would have been there to make sure everything was tasting okay. Than we went to go pay and asked for a manager we started by telling the manager that he had been there before and that he was really impressed that's why he took me to that restaurant. And that from what had happened today we would not be coming back. We told him our food was cold and that no one had come to ask how our meal was or we would have told him, and he said well you ordered a cold plate and why didn't you ask for me or send the food back? First we're like how is a burrito a cold plate? I can go to Cafe' Rio, La Luna, Beto's, i can even buy a bean and cheese burrito at the gas station and heat it up and i can get a HOT burrito. but apparently a burrito is cold at La Puente. We also told him that no one came along to ask us if our food was okay or not. He than got upset very quickly and was starting to get rude with us. Finally we were like ok you know what just take our money give us our change and we're going and we won't be back. But please someone tell me since when is a bean and cheese burrito a cold plate? My wife and I went to eat there because I didn't want to drive to another location. The owner was very rude and offended my wife. I will take the extra time to go to the draper or slc location where I received good service and a friendly staff. If there was a negative rating Lapuente in midvale earned it! This place is the last place you would want to eat mexican at ! The owner is a short... rude person and has the worst attitude I have ever encountered...stay away go to the one in Draper or SLC and get great food and service!! Their smothered burritos with cheese are great! The price for something that is good and it fills you up is cheap. It's under $5 and it's heaven! I have tried their Chili Relleno platter, now that's something I could eat for 2 days. It's been a long time since I had that, because it's a lot of food and I can't finish the platter. Really It's the only place I go out to eat and I go there once a month. It's time to go back! Pros: Smothered burritos with cheese are heaven! My wife and I love their smothered burritos. Nicely prepared with nicely sized portions. They take time to make the dish look presentable. \r \r There's a waitor there that's very quick but very impersonal and short with customers. \r \r They charge for additional complementary tortilla chips. i go there all the time and have ordered almost everything on the menu. i have found that the smothered burrito with cheese and onions are my all time favorite. for the large burritos they only charge 5 bucks which is like a big mac meal at McDonald so for a hand prepared, hot, tasty, burrito you really do get your moneys worth. if you have a problem with the price then go somewhere where they store all foods next to the chemicals and have rodent problems because for the price la puente is the best in town. the people may be rude but look at the reviews you are giving them. I 'm sure that if they treat you a tad bit rude and you are there just to judge them then you are not going to be the nicest person. i go here all the time and have a great time with all employees because i treat them like a friend not a slave cooking and serving for me. meat lovers this is your place..however i know many vegetarians who go here. all you have to do is be specific. Okay, as you can tell from my screen name, I moved here from Phoenix. I have been trying out the mexican food here in UT and this was the worst one. The waitress was rude and charged me for everything. I asked for a side of cheese (there was none on my burrito) and she told me it would be $1.50?, I can't remember. Their smothered burritos are to DIE for!!! They are the perfect spicyness, always served hot out of the oven, they are huge. Service is okay, nothing great. I had to ask for a refill. They charge for every little thing. I always feel like they are talking about the customers in Spanish. Owner/Manager tried to rip me off! The owner is sooooo rude he is not welcoming to little one's and will treat you like trash of the earth if they drop a thing on the floor or make a noise,and he will count the empty glasses on your table to make sure you did not get more than one refill(that is the refill limit)and the food is sooooooo greasy and heavy,you will leave feeling like you just ate a side of beef..watch out for the short fat man. more

The menu did not describe the sauce that is on the smothered burritoes. Warning to vegetarians: Ask about the meat content in everything! I am sure they would have made me a burrito without meat sauce, but I was on my way to work so I did not have time to go back. (My co-worker liked the burrito - hence the ""average"" rating.) Very kid-friendly restaurant. Encourages children to wander around by providing arcade games and toy machines all over the front area of the place. That plus the general noise level and loud talking is more than encouraged here, don't go if these sort of things makes you nervous or spoils a meal.
