Editorial review from Citysearch 11/2/2012

Absolutely awful. I called to get an appraisal and was greeted over the phone with a very angry rant stating they don't give free appraisals and only regular customers get that privilege. I hadn't asked for a free appraisal and was ready to pay for one. I also would have purchased from their store if I found something I liked. When I said I would like to sell and started to say I would be happy to pay for an appraisal he cut me off and said ""Good for you!"" and hung up the phone. When I tried to call back several times and explain I would like to pay for his time and expertise he would simply pick up the phone and hang up over an over. I finally got him back on the phone and asked if I could pay for his appraisal and he said, ""I don't have anymore time for you, young lady,"" and hung up AGAIN. I got an appraisal from another place and, as it turns out, the piece I have is worth quite a lot and I was able to sell it, happily, to another business. My advice is to go anywhere else because the owner has some serious anger issues. more

Rude, condescending, unhelpful. I suspect the owner, based on my age and questions, assumed I wasn't a serious buyer and treated me very poorly. I will be buying some fine art- but not from them. They do have an impressive collection of property, but not to put too fine a point on it: they were jerks. Class is about more than the merchandise, its about how you behave. They lack it. more

Outrageously Rude 5/1/2012

I've also shopped for antiques around the world. Without a doubt the owner of this store is the rudest, most pompous individual that I have encountered in the business. No matter what the store contains I will never buy anything there. Salt Lake City - a friendly town? This gentleman advertises the opposite. Run---away! more

I found this in Salt Lake City? 9/6/2011

I have shopped antique and art galleries on both coasts and in Europe. Never did I expect to find the same, or even better quality and selection in Salt Lake City. Then I saw the prices and couldn't believe it. The owner explained that because of his selection and low overhead (I am guessing because of being in Salt Lake City), he has clients from all over the country that buy from him. He even told me he shipped a container of furniture to a client in Europe. I gladly took advantage of that selection and low overhead. Sorry New York and Paris! I'm shopping Salt Lake City from now on. If you find yourself in the area, make some time to visit. It will definitely be worth your while. more

Best Kept Secret for Antiques on the West Coast: 12/3/2008

\r \r It is always a delight to go in Anthony's. It not only has amazing furniture and art but unique objects as well. I have found the staff to be both knowledgeable and willing to explain details about anything and everything. I have never felt the ""stuffiness"" that was mentioned in a previous review--nor have I ever felt pressured to buy anything.\r \r Perhaps some shoppers want to be warmly greeted and engaged in bubbly conversation. Anthony is a very pleasant person who as a vast knowledge of the objects in the store but he is not an outgoing, loquacious individual. I personally prefer his style, where I can browse at my leisure but ask for help or direction whenever I want or need it. \r \r I enjoy visiting the store--in much the way I love to go to a favorite museum, walking from room to room and floor to floor. It is even more of a delight since objects are available for purchase as well as mere enjoyment.\r \r \r \r Pros: Quality and value / Convenient Parking more

Knowledgeable Service 6/10/2008

I purchased several antiques from Tony when he just had a small shop on Broadway...I was young and learning but he was patient and respectful. I have lived and shopped in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New Orleans. Tony stands shoulder to shoulder with the best buyers in all those cities! What a wonderful thing to have him living here in SLC and I am glad I am back to take advantage of his great eye and expertise! Pros: Ambience, knowledgeable, trustworthy Cons: Busy with large clientele but worth the wait! more

Wow! 5/3/2008

World class selection. I've shopped the world for 30 years. Their collection is eclectic, interesting with several important pieces. I found them to be very knowledgable and helpful. I highly recommend them.\r Only drawback . . . I can't find a website for them? Help. Pros: Selection, quality, professionalism more

Unbelievable beauty! Makes my eyes hurt and yet I never can get enough! 3/26/2008

Anthonies has the most beautiful home furnishings you have ever seen. And those who tell you different ethier have bad taste or just sour grapes. About sixteen years ago I discovered Antonies on a fluke and what a lucky day. I have been there when the sales people have been charming and when it was less than a delight. However I did not go there looking for a lunch date just outrageously georgeous furniture, you will not be disappointed if one of a kind beauty makes your heart sing! Anthonies is an education in and of it's self. It is one of the treasures of Salt Lake and somthing to be savored. Pros: I have never seen anything to match it ever! This is what I mean when I say antique. Cons: Sometimes sales folks could work on their polite, they can be stuffy. more

Not worth the trip,, even if its arround the corner 2/4/2008

Less then impressive,, much less. Lacking Professionalism, Might as well be selling star wars. Not worth your trip. \r Pros: occupies a building discouraging homeless Cons: everything more

oversized antiques for twee retirees lacking self knowledge 11/20/2007

snobs -- apparently if you are too short (?) they judge you as too young, hence not wealthy enough to buy their provincial antiques -- they specialize in name dropping only i would think -- in my younger days i visited because i liked the sculptures outside -- they were cold, snippy, rude, and unnecessarily judgmental. i left feeling belittled and confirming my opinion that true chic is not in the large and pompous, but in that which has recently been rejected and its real value is being rediscovered. only copy cats go in for this bland experience -- i'm glad i left empty handed -- where they seem left with empty souls.... Pros: some of the things are pretty and probably valuable Cons: you have to wade thru knee-deep pretension more

For those who want the best 1/23/2004

Having shopped all over the world for antiques, I was amazed to find a world class gallery with such an amazingly large quantity of quality antiques in all price ranges right here in Salt Lake City. Anthony and his staff are knowledgable, helpful, courteous, and I have not found better value any where else I have shopped. Those who know antiques know what a great find Anthony's is. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for those quality items with enduring value. Pros: quality, value, selection more
