What is going on there? Open or closed? 10/9/2011

When Anna Marie ran it, the place was wonderful. Now I can't even tell if it's still in business. The outside is covered with something & no one answered the phone when I tried calling earlier this week. Anyone no what's going on there? more

My husband and I have driven from The Woodlands area on 3 different occasions to eat at Old Heidelberg and on all 3 occasions, they have been CLOSED! We went during hours they had posted as OPEN but only to get all the way down there to be told they were closed or closing. SO... We will NEVER make that mistake again and have since found RUDY'S Leichner German Restaurant and theyare WOINDERFUL!!! and OPEN WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL BE!! more

Old Heidleberg German restaurant 10/9/2008

I come from Chicago where Germantown and all ethnic restaurants are just the best. I went to this restrant about 15 years ago, and continued to go there for the music and being single, to meet guys and giriends there. It was a meeting place for the plus fifty crowd and it was fun. Now it just reminds me of a quiet restaurant that has fallen quietly into dispair. The food was not what I remembered and I wasn't give the cabbage and rye at the table free. Everything was costly and did not have that special flair I remembered. The Weinerschnichel was too crisp and not enough vegs......everything was dipped and fryed. All in all, I wish this place was the same as I remembered, but I guess that's too much to ask. There used to be another German restaurant off Post Oak.......Does anybody remember the name??? Pros: down more

Great Food! Gutes Essen! 9/8/2008

WIENERWICH 5/25/2008

It?s me again. It was on Friday January 30th, 2009, and what a great way to start a new year. I came in around 7:30pm to meet with a group of friend. Even though, I ate early (5:30pm) and was not ?that hungry?; But knowing that I would have to stay for awhile, I decided to order something to eat so I would not go home hungry. Pros: walked away with a complete satisfaction. Cons: Again... None more

Longevity comes in many forms! 3/23/2008

I'd driven by the Old Heidelberg for many years and finally decided to go. The menu is strictly ""rib-sticking"" German food, although they do have some low carb entries. The bread arrived but was cold, not warmed up. Salads come with dinner, but they never came (for 4 people??) In fairness, we never followed up, we were so busy talking. Lots of people got up and danced. I was expecting oompah music, but it wasn't. You need to go to Rudi Lechner's for that. If you're older, love to dance, want a cozy atmosphere, this is the place! Service was good, attentive. Pros: Cozy atmosphere, friendly crowd, ample parking Cons: Music too loud for conversation; not all menu items served more

AWFUL 1/21/2008

We went on a Saturday night (1/19) and the service and food was awful. We even had to send a plate back and the waitress came back and said the cook was ""angry"" because we did not like the food quality ... so we had to pay for it! The service was terrible ... very slow. Waitress was rude telling us to hurry up and order because she ""didn't have all day"". Beer was hot. Bathrooms were dirty ... ceiling tiles were stained in the bathrooms and falling down. We will never go back. One of the worst dining evenings I have ever had. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: NOTHING Cons: Awful food and terrible service. Dirty restaurant! more

Best German restaurant in Texas 11/14/2007

Me and my husband have gone to other german restaurants before but this place is a WHOLE lot better. The food was very fresh, and extermely tasty. The variety of wines/beer is more than your typical restaurant, and the workers and very educated about their products and food. The band plays many types of music and everyone has such a good time relaxing and listening to the band. Staff is also very nice. This is the type of place I would definitely go to again to enjoy my time and have excellent food. I had no complaints! Pros: excellent food, very nice staff, awesome band/music! Cons: none! more

Best Restaurant (let alone German Restaurant) in town! 10/11/2007

A group of us went to the Old Heidelberg to celebrate a birthday, and it was great! I had gone a few times long ago, but it was better this time. The food was authentic German food (I am familiar with German food), the service was very good with friendly and professional staff, and the live music made the place very cozy and friendly. Ever since the new ownership food quality has improved, and the minor remodelings of the place have definitely opened up the whole area. The band plays a variety of great music, and there are more than 60 different types of beers to choose from. We enjoyed our time there very much and would recomment it to anyone, we'll be going back for some more German food pretty soon. Pros: great authentic german good, great music, nice atmosphere more

Just Bad 2/26/2007

Living in the area we decided to try the Heidelberg, and boy was that a mistake. The waitress was terrible, when we asked to get clean silverware she didn't understand, she didn't speak english, spanish, or german (we had all these languages covered at the table by chance). We asked what the soup of the day was and were told it as cold soup, but she couldn't tell us what the soup base was or anything else. The food was extremely expensive and after about a 45 minute wait we finally got ice cold grease. It was not good. They only had about 5 German type dishes on the menu too. The live entertainment was even worse. It was a man and a women allegedly singing karaoke style (not karaoke night, they just didn't have a band), however, whenever they would put down the mics the vocals would still be going on, they were lip syncing, and not to very good vocals either! Cons: Service, cleanliness, food, entertainment.... more

not real German Restaurant!!! 1/11/2007

It was my first time in this restaurant and I was very annoy. The taple and the silver was dirty. The same with the restrooms, all nasty. I was with my family and we had order the ""Combo for two"" because the waitress tell us, it is from all a little. The best from this plate was the ""Wienerschnitzel"". The food was cold and looks not good! The waitress was slow and not motivated. I come from Germany but excuse this restaurant is not real GERMAN! Its dirty and the food is bad! more

Grumpy Wait Staff 8/3/2006

Every time I've visited this restaurant it was for lunch and the waitresses were simply unattentive and took no pride in their work. While the food itself was average, the dining experience could have been greatly enhanced by more attentive and polite wait staff. Pros: Quite Neighborhood Cons: Rude Waitresses more

Unforgettable 5/20/2006

I took my wife to this place for celebrating her birthday. The food was delicious, the live music (various different styles) was well performed and good for dancing, the service was great (pick the waiter with german accent) and the atmosphere was nice for romance (including candle and flowers in your table). The band accepts special requested songs, too. Definitely a must-see. I spend US$ 75 total, and stood there from 8:00 to 12:00am. Pros: Dancing, Atmosphere, Food more

Wonderful Experience 10/4/2005

The Old Heidelberg is one of my favorite establishments. Immediately after walking in you feel right at home. The waitors are so friendly and the live music and dancing was very entertaining. I was so surprised to see how people in the Old Heidelberg all seem to know eachother, it was like a big family. When I went with my husband on a Saturday night, it was quite busy and everyone was up and about talking and meddling like in a big party. It was our anniversary, and our waitor was nice enough to ask the band to play some music for us. As for the food, the schnitzel was delicious and I recommend the apple strudel. Pros: Live music, Atmosphere, Food more

OH has gone WAY downhill 4/21/2005

OH used to be one of my favorite places to get German food. Tonight I returned for the first time in over a year with my wife, who was raised in Germany. I was immediately surprised to find the place mostly empty, at 7:30 on Friday night. Like the previous reviewer, we ordered the sausage and cheese platter. The sausage tasted like plain grocery store smoked sausage, and the cheese was processed cheese slices. This was $8. You have got to be kidding me. Next we had the sampler platter, which had a selection of German ""specialties."" Most of the items were greasy and did not compare well to authentic German cuisine. There are other German places in town that offer much better food and atmosphere - stick to them. Pros: Not Crowded Cons: Poor Value, Greasy Food, Smoky more

Worst dining experience in a while 10/22/2004

First time to OH. Service was awful and SLOW. Food came out nearly one hour after ordering--once we *finally* got someone to take our order. Food was mediocre at best. Bratwurst/""knackwurst"" (according to menu) was flavorless, tiny amount of sauerkraut was a real let-down, ""German"" potatoes were just plain ol' potatoes. Sausage and Cheese appetizer plate had 6 tiny, paper-thin triangles of cheese, some of which I thought might have been Kraft singles (except they were too thin!). $60 (for two, no dessert) for this meal was a crime. The ONLY bright spot--the potato soup and cucumber salad were very good. And somehow, although we were directly behind smokers at a non-smoking table, we never smelled any cigarette smoke!!! Amazing that this was the most notable thing about this restaurant. Pros: Good ventilation Cons: , Poor food more
