Worst Sushi. Charges too much on the debit/credit card! 6/18/2008

Beware!!!!I had sushi combo platter on a Wed lunch..., paid $10++. Sushi is not fresh and does not have any taste at all. I checked my bank account only to see they charged $14 which is weird because I did not leave any tip...I can not contest it since I lost the receipt! more

AMAZING SUSHI! 4/22/2007

Andy has the best sushi in Pittsburgh! He makes the most unique rolls I have ever had and is always kind and friendly. My favorite thing to do is allow him to whip up something of his choice; it is ALWAYS delicious! I highly recommend the soft-shell crab rolls or if you are going solely for the raw seafood, at least try his special sauce that he uses on the soft shell crab rolls. His stuff is truly delicious and is better than any high-class restaurant around. Pros: GREAT price for the quantity, amazing quality fish, unique combinations Cons: fish market scent and no sit-down eating more

Fantastic Fish 3/19/2006

Wholey's remains the best spot in Pittsburgh for fresh fish and fish sandwiches. Sushi is fantastic too. I try and make it down at least once a week to get fresh fish of unparalled quality. more

Best Fish Sandwich 11/30/2004

I had their fish sandwich combo and it was the best I have ever had! Plus the kitchen manager, "Ace" they call him is very charming and smiles a lot. The live fish in tanks is neat and the overall store itself if bright and exciting. I would recommend a trip to anyone for the best fish sandwich in Pittsburgh....and I've had many! Pros: Service, Free Parking, Atmosphere Cons: , Narrow Aisles more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Where others may festoon the walls with harpoons, fishing nets and lobster traps, the photos, paintings, and news clippings hanging in this room serve in tribute to the men and women, both in Pittsburgh and at sea, that have devoted their lives to providing fish for the masses. While some may think that the seating, located on the second floor is sparse, it's quite easy to imagine you're in the bowels of a large ship with the white metal walls and mechanical hum of freezers, a decidedly marine feel permiates.

    The Food
A cafeteria-style line forces the hungry to choose from fried and broiled fish, crab cakes, clams, and other assorted foods from the sea, as well as roasted chicken. While slight waits such as this can sometimes induce road rage-type behavior, at Wholey's it offers a welcome chance to digest the menu and decide between the Whaler's pound-plus whiting or the milder tasting cod. Each comes with on an outsized bun and with a free large drink. The wait is actually less than that at a fast food place.
