My first time there, got my haircut by tommy , the worst stylist ever . My hair was really long and I simple wanted long layers and side bangs , I used a girl that works there as an example. First he ask me how short he's cutting, I told him half of inch, I asked to please not to cut too much. He gave me short layers and one piece long in the back, it was horrible , I was crying all night , and I went to someone else to fix it. Now I have short hair and I hate it. Don't EVER go there to get a haircut Never. He is the worst , he don't even deserve to be called stylist. more

I first went for a facial, paid $145 for less than 45mins, as the esthetician was reminded like 20 mins into my facial that she had a customer waiting outside. I told her that i had a gift certificate my husband had given me for mother's day, for $200. I said I wanted to use some for a facial and the rest for a massage. I literally felt I was there for no more than 20mins. Horrible service, by Antonella, who claimed to have 20yrs experience, yet her skin seemed pretty bad for a person who works on face treatments. After the bad service I received, I had $55 left, therefore, i decided to use the remainder in a pedicure $40 and a manicure $17. This were the cheapest they offered. Omg, what a bad pedicure I got done by laura, who talks non stop, not to her clients though, to the co-workers, and I guess another client she knew. This woman said she was a singer, I believe her though, because she had no clue on how to do a pedicure, nor a manicure. I asked for a French pedi/mani, which she made the white line on my toe nails super thick and crooked. I still can believe they charge $40 dollars for a pedicure that the only special thing they do is use a purple sugar scrub, and another green cream...I really don't know what products were used on me, since Miss Laura didn't have the courtesy of explaining the type of products she was using on me, because she was too busy talking to another customer, about American Idol, etc.. Maximus is just a brand, because the prices they charge are not deserving, based on the quality of service you get. I have gone to spas in the city, where you really get what you pay for. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It was really a rip off. I don't mind paying top dollars as long as I'm dealing with people who know what they're doing. more

I was having a bad day and decided to go to Maximus and treat myself to services...when I walked in I was "wowed" by the atmosphere! It was like no other salon I have gone to. I was alittle overwhelmed but the staff put me to ease immediately! I received a massage, and a well needed one, it was exactly what I needed to relax and begin my journey as a new client! After that I got a new "hairstyle" I was so excited to see how much this new cut made me feel, and my boyfriend loved it!!!! Thank you Maximus I will be back!! PS(My boyfriend will be in as well!) I was in Long Island for the weekend and I really needed to get my hair dyed so I decided to give Maximus a try. I am so glad I did because my hair has never looked better. My hair looks beautiful!!! It is so silky and shiny! The color is amazing!! People have stopped me and asked me where I got my hair done!!! I plan to come back to Maximus every time I need my hair done!!! more

My boyfriend bought me a gift certificate to this Spa and I'm so glad he did. The manicure and pedicure was amazing and my massage was completely relaxing. I bought 3 gift certificates for the holidays. more

I have been going to Maximus for years and they have been nothing but super. My color always looks fantastic and my cuts are perfection. My husband got me a gift certificate for a massage and it was also great. Pros: POOR BLISS more

Went there because a freind told me it was the place to go to to get my hair the way I wanted. For the 1st visit my color was great but soon after the quality of the product went down hill (they now use the same product that you can get at a drug store) they switched products to a cheaper brand but increased the price. I than made the mistake of asking about getting my hair straigthen and this very heavy bleached blonde came over to tell me about it., She told me a price and than added she demanded a 20% tip for herself and 10% tip for her assistant. She than asked me "are you sure you can afford this?' WTF Need I tell you I no longer go there and would never recommend this salon to any one The staff is nasty all of them thinking they are the reborn of Paul Mitchell and the prices are almost 25% or more of any other salon in the area Think twice before you go Pros: the coat check person is wonderful Cons: to many to name more

They are living on the reputation they made a very long time ago. They no longer have the same care to details. They are more of a factory lets see how much we can get the customer to spend. The cuts and blow outs are poor quality. I can get the same effect at home with curlers. Too many of the workers have poor attitudes or entitlment that even when they do a crappy job they want a quality tip. They bad mouth the customers to other customers which I think is in poor taste. With so many salons in such a short distance to eachother you would think they might try a little bit more. When they did my color the ruined my hair and turned it orange. It took me going to someone 3x's before it could be brought back to my natural color. I would never go back for my hair to be done. They do have fantastic make up artists though. In 2005 I went to Maximus Merrick for a one-step process and haircut. The colorist changed the color of my hair from blonde to dark brown-worked in a dark corner at a counter with no mirror. I had a haircut by Tommy-the cut was way shorter than I wanted. The salon felt like a factory production line with chairs lined up in the middle of the salon to wait for a cut or blowdry. All in all a bad experience for a lot of money. I had to have the color corrected in New York City (where I work) and it took many hair conditioning and color corrections over the next 6 months, a lot more money before my hair got back to where it was before I went there. I would not recommend them at all. What has prompted me to write this review is that a vendor I use for business generously gives me a gift certificate and in 2007 he gave me a Maximus Westbury certificate. My spa day at Westbury was a very good experience and I enjoyed it. The two salons could not be more different. In 2008 my vendor gave me a certificate for the Merrick location-I was kind of dreading going there but in any event I booked for last Friday. The services were for a massage, manicure, pedicure, hair blow-out and make-up (the last two services I did not want but thought why not it's not everyday you would have this done and I was going to take pictures afterwards). The name Merrick "Express" is completely accurate - it's very rushed and not at all spa-like. The spa is located in a tiny corner of the salon and is noisy. The massage, manicure and pedicure were OK-but no-where to dry your nails. I had the worst blow-out it was disgraceful-the stylist was leaving so he took no care at all. The girl was pleasant doing the make-up but it was average at best. Again, a bad experience and I would not recommend this salon at all. Try Joseph Christopher in Bellmore if you want a wonderful spa experience and a hairdresser that listens to the client with very comparable prices for their services. Pros: None Cons: A lot more

Had my hair cut by Tommy. He's the worst example of a stylist who doesn't listen to anything you say, does what he wants because he thinks he knows better than you do. Cut my hair way shorter than I wanted. I came out sick to my stomach wondering how long it would take to grow back.and furious with myself that I subjected myself to his arrogance and horrible attitude. more

I was going to this salon for about a year & used to get both highlights and a haircut. My hair was medium brown with golden highlights & when I asked my colorist to dye it back to my natural hair color, which she knew very well was medium brown, after the summer I ended up with jet black hair!! She left the salon without even checking up on me. When I went for a haircut right afterward, the guy who cut my hair for the first time cut it completely crooked and cut 3 inches off when I asked for a trim. They all kept reassuring me (not the colorist because she left) that this was my hair color. I never thought I would cry about something like this but I looked like a witch. I don't recommend this place at all!!!!! more

This is the worst salon I've ever been to. I left the salon crying and had to go somewhere else to get my hair cut again. To top it all off, customer service was horrible. The staff was rude and unwilling to help. My friend got her hair dyed and waited a while to get it blow dryed. When she finally asked if someone was going to blowdry her hair, she was told that she was supposed to make a separate appt for that and that noone was available to dry her hair. I was very impressed with Maximus. The spa environment is very soothing and I loved hanging out in my comfy spa robe on the luxurious velvet couch reading a magazine waiting for my facial. Robert is the absolute best stylist in the world, his haircuts will change your life!! Maximus is a little on the expensive side, but when you look in the mirror, it'll be worth it.
