We have purchased a number of pieces from MDC over the last few years, I am sure well more than the cranky-pants angry reviewers that litter this listing. For best results, stick with the new UWS location and work with Yanni. Yes, Samantha was a drag and it is good she is gone. But we have always been happy with the end products, even while she was there.
I'll give one example only. We needed 3 bathroom vanities custom made for a house that we renovated outside of the city. One was simple, another a more complex built-in, and the third a difficult curved-front. Our contractor quoted us something astronomical and ultimately couldn't get the pieces done. Yanni took our architects drawings and had the pieces built to spec, one in walnut, got them done in 4 weeks, and came in at less than half what i had been quoted elsewhere.
Bottom line, if you choose well, you will get furniture at a cost and quality comparable to Crate n Barrel or even Room n Board, but custom. Just steer clear of the late 80s styles they have lying around as examples.
Pros: quality materials and workmanship, helpful in design
Cons: need to keep eye on finishes
