Are they trying to turn it into a dance club? 3/25/2011

I used to love this bar, but I'm guessing it's been taken over by new management who appear to think it's some sort of crazy dance club as opposed to a chill neighborhood bar. I went there last night. The service was TERRIBLE. Rude and slow and the manager was a jerk too. They wouldn't let anyone into the big area with the couches. It was apparently reserved for a party that only 6 people ever showed up to. The music was so painfully loud you couldn't even think let alone talk and they refused to turn it down despite many people asking them to. We ordered the buffalo chicken strips which weren't buffalo at all, they were soaked in BBQ sauce and served with a side of sour cream. They were disgusting. I won't be going back. more

SERVICE WITH BIAS 6/10/2010

Perhaps this establishment should best be avoided by fair-minded people, and those of other hues who want a drink because if my experience is any indication - you won't be served!!!!! My colleaguess and I were among the first10 people in this establishment and while we were there NO other patrons came in so it was hardly crowded. I went to the bar alone to order a drink. The barmaid could not help but see me at the end of the bar waiting for her as she walked toward me. Upon her return to the front of the bar, she stopped a couple of feet from me, made herself a seltzer with lemon, placed a straw in it, proceeded to drink it, and talk to the two men in front of her at the bar and NEVER looked at me - much less asked if she could help me! I was the ONLY patron in the establishment with a "permanent tan" and the only one who could not get a drink as evidenced by my returning to my colleagues empty-handed. Low key, relaxed atmosphere.. they'll let you be! 2/8/2008

A fine bar that reminds me of the Dr. Who phone booth-- or was it a police box? From the outside it looks like a small place, but you keep wandering through and finding more and more. The bar team is accommodating, though it's not clear if there is or isn't a waitress. The food is normal barfood, onion rings, pizza, etc. But the cheese fries, though not exactly a healthfood, were delicious. The place was not overly crowded, but popular enough. Super nice 3/22/2007

Everything's good at Bar 9. I like it a lot. Once, this guy stepped on my jacket and I told him to "beat it" and then he knocked over a little table with a candle on it and then I thought it was going to turn into a fight, but then this real nice & cute bartender -- her name was sarah -- came and talked nice to everyone and broke it up. Turns out the guy knew me from my old job (record company!) and we ended up buying shots and having even more fun. The candle got broken, though, but we picked the table back up. The bouncer told me where the ATM was, but it was broken anyway. And when its time to go, go early -- its a long walk and it takes a long time to find the bathrooms. No coat check. Good first bar of the night 11/14/2006

Great meeting place if you work in Midtown. Average drinks but plenty of room to meet up with a group. Music gets better late night, but this isn't a spend your whole night here kind of place. Pros: good bar menu more

Great For Groups! 11/4/2006

I recently hosted a birthday party here, and it was wonderful! They have a number of different spaces depending upon the size of your group. The staff could not be more hospitable, they made reserving the space as simple as giving my name, and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The only drawback I found was their peculiar selection of draft beer. more

Best bar in Hell's Kitchen 10/17/2006

Best place in the neighborhood....Nice and chill, great place to meet friends, and the music is always rockin. Plus, they just got a new bartender who is HOT (i've only seen her one sat nite so far)....and she's really sweet and makes yummy drinks to top it all off! The waitresses leave something to be desired in terms of service so seek out this hottie and always order straight from her!! It is what it is... a nice, comfortable dive bar 1/28/2006

We were there on a Saturday night checking out a friend's band and in between sets the music was good, loud but people could still talk. The place is way larger than it looks from the outside. The bathrooms were all the way in the back and down a flight of stairs. We hung near the bar where there were two hard-working bartenders serving the crowd. I don't know what the other people here are complaining about, but in the course of 2-2.5 hours we were bought not one but two rounds by one of the bartenders. Here is my #1 TIP of the day: NO ONE is going to buy you a round if you don't tip or offer to buy them a drink. You don't nurse one or two beers all night, stiff your server and then expect something for free. Go back where you came from hayseed. Pros: good music, relaxed atmosphere Cons: hike to bathroom more

Solid Place To Be 12/13/2005

If you're looking for something along the lines of an Irish Pub look no further. Bar 9 is perfect for that. It is large with huge spaces and well aligned couches for big groups. Drinks are decent, small selection of mostly domestic beer. Drinks are decent as well. Finger foods are good. Had the chicken fingers, calamari, cheese fries, tater tots and spinach dip with chips. All were good except the spinich dip which was cold, yuck. Good solid place for the neighborhood. more

This bar makes me poor and angry 9/25/2005

Everytime I've been to this place, when a group tries to leave the waitress asks you to stay and have another with her. Then, because you are with a bunch of boys, you stay and rack up another set of drinks. She'll promise to buy you a round of whatever you want and substitute bottom shelf for your choice or, worse, bill you for it and pretend that you misunderstood her signal that this would be free. Why bother 8/31/2005

The atmosphere is nice and relaxing as long as you stick to beer and ask very little of the staff. Don't expect any good mixed drinks at this place. The only mix you'll get is a watered down drink with bad service and double shot of rudeness. A Grey Goose and soda should have more than a splash of Goose. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about...I know what vodka tastes like and I know what soda water tastes like. Oh well, why bother suffering with their attitudes, there are dozens of other bars within a block or 2 of this place. Buyer Beware 7/14/2005

If you believe that a bar should be run so that it makes money but not at the expense of common courtesy, then DONT GO TO THIS BAR! Dont ever... ever... ever... ever... ever... ever... expect a buy back...a free drink on the house...even if you are told the next one is on the house. It seems that management has decided to tell the bartenders and the wait staff to pretty much sucker you into buying drinks, offering the next round on the house, and then not owning up to it. So if your first inclination is to not believe someone, then sure it is a crapy dive on the way to the subway that will take you home, other wise if you trust people...DONT DRINK HERE!!! more

Great local bar 10/9/2004

We went a little early so this place was a bit too mellow for me, but I think at a different time it might be a lot of fun. Also the Yankee game was on and it's the playoffs so a lot of people were into that. We had a really good time, stopped in for drinks before and after dinner I can't wait to try this place again. The bartenders were really nice too! good place to go if you want to catch up with friends and be able to actually talk. The couches looked really cozy but overall there was a dusty smell to the place. Pros: Great decor more

Love this place.... 4/5/2004

If you want a laid back but yet fun night, then go to Bar Nine. This place has everything from friendly bartenders and bouncers to good food and music and an awesome atmosphere. Great place to meet up with friends and not worry about the pententious stuff that goes on in the other city bars.... Great place to have a party as well.... Pros: Music, Food, Great Vibe more
