I went in early on a Saturday Morning just after the shop opened at 9am. I came in for a basic carburetor replacement and a smog.
Before I continue, in Nevada if you spend $400 dollars on a repair to allow your car to pass smog, no additional repairs are needed with your failed smog certificate. Now with this in mind, after spending the entire day in the shop, spending $700 for a "rebuilt" carburetor, distributor cap and "service" I was told my car would not pass smog unless I spent an additional $300 dollars for an additional repair to my on board computer. (the problem was my fuel pump)
Now this station was licensed with the state as a Smog Station at time of service on 7/1/08. So the fact that he even suggested an additional repair with out the benefit of putting my vehicle on the smog machine just shows his slime level. In fact he stated, "We won't smog a car if we know it will fail?" He knew it would fail because it was spitting out billowing clouds of black smoke. Something it didn't do prior to his repair.
Needless to say he refused to smog it. I replaced the fuel pump and allowed them the opportunity to adjust the carburetor. The carburetor was still dumping too much fuel in essence a bad rebuild. In addition to the fact he removed the Early Fuel Efficiency heater gasket which is essential to fuel burning efficiency when he first repaired the vehicle. This left an open circuit which effected my "computer function" The EFE heater gasket has been replaced too and needless to say the Carburetor is still a piece of expensive junk.
Since this incident in 7/08, I've found several complaints were filed regarding this location through the DMV.
BEWARE, unless the shop has been purchased and under new managment (as of this post it has not 3/6/09) stay away from The Carburetor Shop at all cost.
Pros: Can not think of any
Cons: Poor diagnosis of repair needs, less than honest, and refuse to make good.
