I brought a cotton shower curtain here to be dry cleaned (per the manufacturer's cleaning instructions on the tag.) I had never had the curtain cleaned before and there were water spots on it. I thought about just buying a new curtain but I was told Caldwell's could clean it for $9.69, much less than what I would pay for a new curtain, so I left it to be cleaned. After cleaning, I found that my 70x72"" curtain was now 57x66."" I called the store and told them about the problem and was told the owner would call me back. He didn't return my call so I called again. This time the owner answered. I started to explain the problem but he cut me off, insisting that I either bring the curtain to the store to have them ""stretch"" it for me or take it back to where I bought it for a refund because he followed the ""dry clean only"" instructions. I called another cleaner (without mentioning Caldwell Cleaners) and asked if it was possible for a cotton shower curtain to shrink this much if dry cleaned and I was told that cotton may shrink as much as 2% when dry cleaned but the results I received were not possible. I called Caldwell Cleaners back and spoke with the same owner again. I explained what I was told by the other cleaner, that I wanted a refund, and I would be satisfied. While I was still talking, the owner cut me off again, this time yelling that he would not be threatened by me and demanding that I give him the name of the cleaner I had spoken with and accusing me of bad-mouthing him to his competitors. When I refused, he accused me of lying about speaking with anyone else and about the shrinkage, noting that he did not measure the curtain before it was cleaned so there was no way to prove that I had not shrunk it before I brought it in. He continued to talk over me loudly, repeating the same things. He told me he was tape recording our conversation! I had taken clothing to his store for over ten years, although I don't have a lot of dry cleaning. In the past, I have had several garments that came back with small tears or stains but the owners were always so nice that I let those things go, even though I had repair the damage. I could not believe how I was being treated as a long term customer. When I pointed this out, the owner simply stated that I had never had a complaint in all these years, why should I try to complain about their service now? I will never do business with these people again.
