My husband is a physician who was 7/23/2012

Physician and lawyer parents: We sent our child here and he came home repeating this, ""Does your mommy or daddy hit you?"" Our 3 year old asked us what it meant over and over. It was difficult to hide the alarmed looks that washed over our faces at dinner time after the second day of Kinder Camp. We asked our son who said that to him and he told us his teacher with the red hair. We were left with no choice but to explain the topic of abuse to our innocent little one since brushing the matter off at that point would have eroded trust. It scared our son badly that such a thing as abuse exists. He should not have had to learn that it does at such a young age. That 2nd day of camp, my son's book bag label was peeled off and stuck to his bare back. He cried when I later had to slowly peel it off, and his fine back hairs got pulled out along with it. I asked my son who did this to him. He said his teacher. I asked which one and he said he didn't know. We are contacting national YMCA organization leaders if they have any such figure heads. Upon letting a YMCA Kinder Camp and Youth program directors know that our son had been interrogated behind closed boys locker room doors at camp by a teenaged camp helper, they refused to fire the teenager involved even after they confirmed what had taken place and instead called in risk management. We were told that it was our problem if we could not trust them after such a huge breach of the parental trust placed in them, and we were told it was our son's last day at camp. We were also told it is their new policy that patents cannot watch their kids from the hall because it makes the staff uncomfortable...at least not if that parent is a lawyer wanting to see what was going on for herself to insure staff did not further traumatize her son. Our entire family is better off not being subjected to YMCA children's programs since our entire family was distressed by what they did to our 3 year old. I attempted to be forgiving, just not blind, deaf, and dumb as required. The Cary YMCA very obviously do not know that trust is earned, not owed. Also, look up news articles online. Staff at this Cary YMCA have been convicted of child sexual predator related crimes...oh, but they trust their staff blindly and all parents should too! If a parent does not blindly trust them, that parent can get out. I'll post audio of staffers recorded on my phone and come back to reviews to post the site to find it on. Personally, I can do better by my child than to try to send him here monitored. What are they hiding that they don't want parents to see? Sky's the limit apparently.\r \r Our son has no familiar faces should we send him to a new camp to be new for the last few weeks of summer, and he lived through a week of diarrhea after his experience with this terrible venue with staffers without remorse who thanks to abuse prevention training, are apparently quick to interrogate kids as to whether they are abused. Parents ask your kids if they were interrogated. Our almost 4 year d said camp counselors asked lots of kids. Our mistake to bring our child here. We won't make it again. The Cary YMCA staffers have disrespected every member of our family with their injurious actions, and even more so with the manner in which they chose to handle the cruelty they inflicted. We are amazed this place is somehow still open to the unsuspecting public given all they fail to disclose and the hide your skeletons instead of warning parents themselves. Horrific treatment of our child and us as parents at this YMCA staff...truly a nightmare. more

Overcrowded, understaffed horrible after school problem Avoid 7/8/2011

I will have to agree with the negative reviews here. Horribly overpriced after school and track out programs. The ration of counceller to students is really high and on top of that.they won't stop advertising on the radio day and night to bring more children there. Extremely overpriced and worthless programs. The councellers are more busy with the ""trouble makers"" to even consider paying attention to the other kids. If you go to the Cary Y it is overstuffed, overcrowded and the musty old smell lingers there. The staff is not much helpful except when they are enrolling you there. They have other tenn ager kids to take care of yours who are not experienced enought to handle kids and if your kid happens to have a problem..They will complain day and night to you about your kid. They don't realize the huge amount of money you pay to get them enrolled. They are also clever enough to exclude many days out of non school days ( columbus day, days around chrimstams thanksgiving ) and charge exorbitant money for care for these days. This is ON TOP of the trackout and after school money you pay !! I am looking for a nanny right now and will pull my son out of the afterschool pretty soon. For us it i has been a waste of money that's it more

Avoid after school and trackout programs 5/22/2010

My child and at least one other were routinely bullied and harassed. After complaining to a counselor, the counselor told my child ""don't tattletale"". My complaints resulted in no action whatsoever. The final straw was when one counselor actually started joining in on the harassment. I have heard similar accounts from other parents at other YMCA after school programs- the problem seems to be endemic to many Wake County YMCAs. Cons: Bullying encouraged more

Great facility for low price, focused on service and wellness 2/3/2008

I'm so sorry that some members had a bad experience here; maybe give it another chance? \r \r I've found the atmosphere to be very warm and genuinely welcoming, and I've gone there almost every day for a month. (I don't use the equipment much, though, but I've never had to contest anyone for a machine... maybe I go during ""off"" hours, like 5-7pm?) The staff has gone out of their way to be kind; my classmates are polite and the teachers are treasures. \r \r I think the facilities are amazing (especially for the low price). I like the health screenings they do, like cholesterol testing; I love the training programs they offer--like CPR and Discipline for Children and babysitting classes. Most of all, I'm happy about the service opportunities, like the Angel Tree gifts, the Red Cross drives, tutoring sessions for children, food collections, the Random Acts of Love and We Build People charity programs, etc. \r \r This Y lives up to its founding Christian values, but makes a secular humanist like myself feel absolutely no pressure to share any particular world view in order to participate. All that for $30 a month is a bargain compared to most other gyms, and with the Y, you know it's not a meat-market or a place for hard bodies to show off. It's about fitness, wellness, and community, and my experiences have proved that true. \r \r Plus, if you look at all that's going on in their calendar, class schedule, and fitness events... there's something for everyone.\r \r Compared to the Y in Hollywood of which I was a member for almost 3 years, this one is way less snobby and far more interested in families, so... I really recommend it (or giving it a second chance, if your first time wasn't so hot.) ^_^ Pros: great charity and training opportunites; fun, diversified classes; low price; family atmosphere Cons: Sometimes on the weekends the classes fill up fast more

Terrible Gym 1/2/2003

I understand that Cary is known for its lack of culture and its generally snotty people. The Y in Cary is the ultimate expression of these. People generally won't share equipment, and have not hesitated to take open equipment without regard for those standing to the side waiting. The staff consistently perform their jobs with a smile, yet there is no genuine warmth behind that smile. There is no community in the gym- just individuals fighting to be noticed and to ensure that they get what they want when they want it. To top it off, they lack enough equipment to accomodate everyone. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Terrible hours, Snotty clientel, Indifferent staff more
