Susie's Drive-In

If I'm not mistaken, this was THEE first ever fast food restaurant that my aunt used to take me to when I was still a kid (with the exceptation of McDonalds). One thing I remember is going through the ""drive thru"" and my aunt would get me a root beer float along with whatever else I wanted to eat, mainly fries. But more importantly, I remember the food tasting good. Fast forward to 2 decades later and the place is STILL STANDING...but the food??? I for one am somewhat disapointed after all these years. For starters, I was hoping this place would've expanded by now. I admire them keeping it a drive up/order-n-go place, but after 20 some years of when I first came to the place the least they could've done was expand their cooking area. It's literally 1 aisle like the aisle in an airplane and about 4 at a time can fit. What's worse, it's not air conditioned. I'm surprised that they're still standing all together, let alone able to move around. As for the food...well, it's not the 80s anymore where it used to taste so good. Now all I see is greased up and artery clogging choices. But besides the ""death by cholesterol"" causing food (which is still ok tasting if you can tune out the grease), the shakes are pretty much the decent thing on the menu. And what of the fries I loved from my childhood? Yes, they're stil the same finger long skin on fries I remember...only now with WAY too much grease (I'm talking about seaping through the paper bag type of grease). It is really scary to see what this place has turned out to be. I really loved coming here in the 80s and having my fries and float in the passenger seat of my aunt's car. I just hope that they REALLY clean up their act and be more health conscious while retaining those favorites I know to love in this day in age. Let's improve for the next generation, so when I have kids I can be proud to say I went here when I was their age. I have not only worked here...but still visit this place regularly. I have never seen such choices for shakes. The Philly and Confused Chicken are absolutely fabulous. And the cheese fries...you wont find another place that offers different choices of cheese fries. This place is always busy...especially on the weekends! Go try for yourself! more

Susie's is exactly what it says it is. A 24-hour drive through restaurant, with absolutely the BEST french fries in the city of Chicago. I have taken every one of my friends that and not a one has disagreed that they have the best fries. In fact one of them met someone in San Diego who knew about Susie's fries. Small world? or just great fries? In addition their hot dogs, hamburgers, shakes...and especially philly's are out of this world. Friends from Philidelphia claim Susie's makes them better. I recommend this for lunch, dinner, or a late night treat...Truly the best in Chicago! more

This was my first job as a 13 year old who lived down the street. They have great greasy food!! If you are looking for good beef sandwiches and just about any fast food that you can think of....Susie's is the place! My family loves the chili cheese fries and the shakes!
