DO NOT BUY A WEDDING DRESS HERE (before reading this) 11/21/2010

This is my first posting ,ever, anywhere, but I need to share my anger and frustration, and, if possible, protect others from a similar experience. I bought my wedding dress at Bay Area Bridal in Cupertino. They ordered it from Waters and Waters. The dress is beautiful and cost $1600. I am a small person and the dress is very form-fitting. At my fitting, the seamstress and I agreed the dress would look best let out just a bit in the hips. On Sept.28, at my final fitting ,the Bay Area Bridal seamstress, a friend who was with me, and I all pronounced the dress “perfect”. My wedding took place on Oct. 9th, less than two weeks later. As I was getting dressed, the zipper on the dress completely broke. The zipper on this form-fitting dress was plastic and could not be fixed. I do not need to describe the trauma that ensued; it was one of the very worst moments of my life. Fortunately, a friend of my mothers had a sewing kit and considerable sewing skill. She sewed me into the dress. I was an hour late to my own wedding. We lost the first half-hour of our reception and had to pay extra to extend the party. We fully expected that when we returned the dress to Bay Area Bridal and told our story they would be as appalled as we were and refund our money immediately. Instead they denied any responsibility, took my measurements, and said I had grown two sizes and that the zipper had broken because I was too big for the dress. For obvious reasons, this is insulting and ridiculous: 1. The dress fit perfectly (according to their seamstress) less than two weeks before the wedding. I was very careful about my eating during that time, but even if I hadn’t been, do they think I went from a size 0 to a size 4 in 10 days? 2. Even if my latest measurements are somewhat different from my original ones, they were taken more than three weeks after the wedding – after I had been on a one week, all-inclusive, honeymoon. My mom and I are taking Bay Area Bridal to small claims court. We recommend you not do business with them, or with Waters and Waters – not because the zipper on the dress broke, but because they so completely refused to stand by their product. more

Bay Area Bridal/New Things West is a nightmare. 5/19/2007

This was one of the worst experiences i've had shopping for my dress. The consultant i had seemed annoyed with me from the beginning, and looked at me as if because i wasnt wearing expensive clothing i wasnt deserving of her time. she picked out the ugliest dresses she could find, for the highest prices even though i had clearly stated what i wanted, and that i had a small budget. after trying on a few dresses she started getting very impatient with me and started leaving me in the dressing room for ten to twenty minutes at a time although she had no other customers. when i asked for a particular style, she had to ask a fellow consultant who asked me if i had seen the one "like that" yet. i was offended when my consultant said, in a very irritated tone "no she doesnt like anything i show her" and the other rolled her eyes. also, if you are under a size ten dont bother trying to get a dress off the hanger, im a 2 or 4 and they had me try on 16 and 18s and pinned them so i couldnt get a sense of what they looked like at all. also, i had my fiance come with me and she started insulting him to me, saying he obviously doesnt care (because he was quiet and didnt like the service either) and that were too young. finally when i went to look at quincenera dresses because i was geting frustrated with their lack of nice wedding gowns, she left me in the room for somewhere between thirty-forty five minutes and i couldnt find her in the store. ive worked in customer service for some time and she was just a complete failure, as was the store in my opinion. more

this is just a wonderful store 2/15/2007

I went to Bay area bridal and the consultant Rachelle was wonderful I didn't know where to start. She had me pull out pictures and then she knew what I wanted. Rachelle was very talented and she knew what type of dress to put on me because of my body shape. I was really empressed by how she knew what to put on me and she measured me professionally. She helped me get my shoes and veil and headpiece I was all set and she was even a makeup artist and hair person so she knew what style of veil to put on me and colors. I was so empressed by her that I even put her down on my list to use her for my makeup artist and hair and her business is Nefertaribeauty in sunnyvale and I even looked her up on theknot and the website was there so I knew it was just fate. I have done makeup for people but I wanted to be pampered on my special day I didn't want the hassel. Pros: Rachelle was a wonderful consultant that knew her stuff Cons: none more

best bridal store with great customer service 9/17/2006

I recently went shopping for my wedding dress at Bay Area Bridal. I has a wonderful experience. I worked with Nikki and at first I didn't know what I was looking for. Immediately she started picking up on all my clues, asked all the right questions and selected a wedding gown that is gorgeous and elegant. Within an hour and half I found the dress I've always wanted. I would recommend the store. Pros: big selection. great customer service Cons: none more

I went there for my wedding dress 3/7/2005

a couple months ago and bought my dress, veil and tiara. The dress I took home that day but it has been almost 7 weeks and I still haven't received my headpieces. I was told by the manager that she would follow up with the manufacturer and give me a call the following week. Well, NO call. Not only that, originally I made an appt to look at a specific dress I really wanted. I gave them the number and the maker when making the appt. I was told they had it in the store. When I arrived, they informed me it was sold. Couldn't they have called to let me know? Pros: Nearby Cons: Crowded, Late more
