Virgin Megastore

The store is cluttered, difficult to navigate. The salespeople (??) are indifferent to the point of rudeness. The overall atmosphere is one of suspicion (more guards than clerks), the mood harsh. Noise levels nearly intolerable. Decor garish. Prices full retail. The CD or DVD selection is not particularly impressive. Why on earth ever go there?? Considering Virgin is a huge chain, I wasn't expecting such a considerate, helpful staff, that not only walked me up and down each aisle, helping me find everything that was on my list, (yes, I had a list!) but the guy who helped me actually recommended some other record stores that might carry the albums I couldn't find at Virgin. I thought that was very cool. He cared more about getting the music I wanted to me, than to sales. (not that I didn't help boost the economy that day.. hehe..) Anyway, to make a long story short, I was impressed. Maybe I just got lucky, and asked the nice guy who knew what he was talking about, but it worked out perfect for me. I guess it also helped that we had the same tastes in music, but still.. I'll definitely be back again. Pros: The listening station, Import section, Friendly staff Cons: , Always busy more

I always want to grab the clerks and shake them, saying 'You are NOT a Rock star! You ARE a retail clerK! lose the attitude'. Pros: well stocked, well organized, good muni access Cons: expensive, no resales, near union square more

Virgin really doesn't have a very good selection, particularly for a store it's size- it's really just a well placed, oversized mall store. But I will admit that they've got some cool compilations. Not cool enough to justify a top 10 ranking though more

Way overpriced, and too focused on mass-market pop. They have a lot of CDs in the store, but most of them are the 140,000 duplicate copies of Dixie Chicks and other junk. more

The regular-priced merchandise is pretty spendy here, but, the sale cds etc are worth it. Their selection is quite a bit better than the Borders nearby. more
