On the good side Lou at Dieter?s reimbursed me for an oil change and replacing a right axle boot; even though he said they had in fact replaced it nine thousand miles earlier. They also replaced the right and left axle boots at no charge. But, it still wasn?t good!!!
I could?ve had an accident after a simple oil change. My car was smoking so badly I nearly abandon it at an intersection. Lou took the car back from my place then days later when I called to get it back he said it was just some spilled oil. I guess I should consider myself lucky, because he didn?t offer to compensate me for my trouble, loss of use of the car, or the fact that my previously clean car was now filthy under the hood from a lot of spilled oil.
Later, while getting my oil changed elsewhere, the mechanic said my axle boot was broken and the grease was gone so I needed to replace the whole axle at triple the cost of what I?d already paid Dieter?s to replace the boot!
Lou said they did in fact do the original work and that it?s not only possible but normal for rubber axle boots to break within 9K miles. I explained my car hadn?t been driven over anything hazardous, or towed. Plus the grease was essentially gone; so I asked, wouldn?t the boot have to have been broken for a while? Still, he insisted it was completely normal for boots to break that soon.
