Best

This is a great BBQ joint. Peanuts at the tables-throw the shells on the floor. Perfect for families. Come here for your Birthday and you get to dance a jig and kiss the pig. ...

Worst

We went to the Orange County store in Tustin, If your trying to get there from the 57 FRWY Hov lane, you'll probably miss your ramp. The atmosphere was sort of goffy, It was Elvis...

Absolutely Amazing!!! Johnny Rebs' has an amazing CRAFT BEER selection. The Orange Wheat by Hangar 24 Brewery and the Red Trolley by Karl Strauss are both awesome. more

Thanksgiving Feast is a Total Rip off 11/27/2008

Paid alot of money for not alot of food. Ad stated that the feast would feed 10-12 assuming 1.25lbs of Turkey per person. Got a 9lb turkey (before cooking) and even went back twice to exchange it. Bad business and poor customer service. I would not recommend anyone trying this for Thanksgiving unless you feel like running to the supermarket to buy more food because you can't feed your guests. Tried it for convenience but it ended up being more work then if I had done it myself. Additional items were bland and didn't even taste good. What a waste! save your time and money and don't learn the hard way like I did. I don't recommend this to anyone. Cons: Too expensive, small servings, taste bland more

awesome service, food was a waste of money 6/27/2007

let me preface this comment by saying that i enjoy food, especially bbq. in fact, you could almost call me a bbq expert as i have tried several restaurants and enjoy cooking the stuff myself. having said that, my dining experience at johnny rebs was completely mixed. while the service was fabulous the food was not up to par. my girlfriend and i went from a suggestion of a friend. we love trying new places so we decided to give it a shot. we were utterly dissapointed by the food. the best thing we sampled was the cornbread and catfish. that should tell you something. we had the two person special with a sampling of a lot of items on their menu including beef ribs and fried chicken. the ribs lacked that smokey flavor, the chicken was dry and their mashed potatoes were bland (its hard to mess up mashed potatoes!). i wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. in fact after leaving the place i regretted not going to Jay Bee's in Gardena. it has much better flavor and the price is very fair. Pros: excellent service, atmosphere Cons: FOOD!, value for price more

Fantastic BBQ and the sides are mouth watering 9/20/2006

This is a great BBQ joint. Peanuts at the tables-throw the shells on the floor. Perfect for families. Come here for your Birthday and you get to dance a jig and kiss the pig. My family and everyone I've brought here love this place. Pros: fried green tomaoes, okra, & grits...I'm not even southern and I'm hooked Cons: Can't really think of any except if your on a diet, you might want to stay home more

Great Food 2/13/2006

If you want Southern food this is the place to go. The BBQ sauce is more than delicious. I had the bbq chicken with mashed potatos. The chicken was smoked, juicy, plump but what made this meal beyond great was the bbq sauce - I even bought extra to take home. Have the sweat tea, served in those old time mason jars it brings you back to those days when grandma made you sweet tea. The lemonade is also delicious, its sweet when you taste it ..and tart at the same time ! the servers where great, the peanuts on the table gave the entire place a great ambiance since all the shells where on the floor (surprised me too) oh and the outside is great comple w. logs and cricket sounds. If you want south country this is where to go. Pros: BBQ Food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: corn bread, lil bit pricy more

Not worth it, to me anyway 5/29/2005

The food at this place wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was okay, but nowhere near ""delicious"". Considering the fact that my plate alone was about $15 plus a soda worth another $2 or so.. I feel like I got ripped off. The service was absolutely horrible too. I decided after waiting about a half hour for my check to just go up to the front and take care of it myself. The people there seemed nice though, I don't understand what made our waitress seem like she didn't have to come by our table and check on us. Anyway, this place is okay if you absolutely need BBQ and have no other place to go. But I wouldn't reccomend it to any of my friends. Pros: BBQ sauce, parking Cons: expensive, service, quality of food more

One of my favorites. 5/28/2005

Found this place from a coupon offer about 7 years ago and have been a semi regular since. It' my favorite place to get old style fried catfish and Dixie beer. We go there for special occasions and group dinners. The service is usually pretty good with a short wait (Fri. and Sat will be longer but get there before 5:00pm). Portions are ample and the peanuts are free(don't forget to put some money in the jar for charity). If you like their dinner, you will love their breakfast. Chicken fried steak and eggs on a Saturday morning...there's nothing better. The decor takes me back to my teenge years in Virginia. Pros: Great food, Variety, Ambiance Cons: no bar for waiting more

Johnnie Rebs Rules 3/7/2004

Great place 11/23/2003

The Thursday night dinner club ventured here a few weeks ago, and I've taken other friends since. Great Brunswick stew, collard greens, chicken fried steak, ribs, cole slaw. OUr waitress gave us free desserts because she felt bad that she didn't inform us that the meats were cooked on hickory. WOW! We're chompin' at the bit to go back and try their Elmer Dill's special. more

Darn Good Food 2/22/2003

Service is very good. Catfish is superb, beef ribs are also very good. Service is friendly and fast. Beverages are served in quart Mason Jars. Reasonable prices for what you get. ""Not a really cheap date place"" but mermorable. Pros: Good Food, very friendly service Cons: Can be a Zoo when busy. more

Great Down Home! 1/7/2003

We've been going to the Bellflower Johnny Reb's for years and it's always great. The service is great, the staff is friendly and the food is wonderful. Be sure to go on one of their ""special"" nights, like Elvis Night or Bayou Night...a real treat! more

Messy but dog gone good 11/11/2002

I've had 2 of the dishes there. First time, I had the chicken fried steak. I had teh BBQ pinto beans and fries as the sides. The steak was just a tad dry, but excellent flavor. The sides are great. And to drink I had the unsweetend tea. I use some Equal to flavor my tea. The second time I was there for lunch. I had the BBQ pork sandwich. It flat melts in your mouth. I had the swetend tea this time. It was not too sweet, and they kept it full! Try the 3 different places. Ask the server what to have, you won't be disappointed! more

If your Kids love ribs, your there! 10/20/2002

We went to the Orange County store in Tustin, If your trying to get there from the 57 FRWY Hov lane, you'll probably miss your ramp. The atmosphere was sort of goffy, It was Elvis Nite, which didn't play well considering the very small and very repetitive collection of tunes. Quite a wait in the evening, It was nephews birthday, so we were not too worried about service, Price moderate service fair. more

ONION RINGS 9/5/2002

it is THE BEST onion rings i've ever tasted in my life. I go there every week to get some onion rings. eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. very fun atmosphere. the wiaters and waitresses are VERY Nice and firendly. more

LA's MR. CECIL Says Good Food 8/25/2002

If you're in the Long Beach area, try this place. The atmosphere is funky & fun, the service is friendly & good, and the food is too. I'm the owner of MR. CECIL'S CALIFORNIA RIBS in LA & we are always trying other BBQ restaurants. This is one I can definitely recommend. The corn bread/muffins (?) are a real stand out! Pros: portions, service, atmosphere Cons: too far from LA more

gourmet1 8/13/2002

this is highly recommended for a southern prom night date. you will have a good time, your date will have forget it & it is exactly the type of restrent found on the bak rodes in de south-both decor & food- Can't beat quality or price. Pros: inexpensive, high quality food, friendly service Cons: dusty parking, limited seating more

Rebs' where you rub your belly 8/13/2002

Entering Johnny Rebs can put you off a bit. The atmosphere (if you're not a bit adventurous) will make you turn around and walk out the door. BUT if you venture inside despite what you see, you will eat a meal that will have you rubbing your belly with a sigh of satisfaction. The food is not only delicious but tender and NEVER DRY. If you want dry meat that's boring then don't go to Johnny Rebs. I recommend it to anyone, just walk in, get past the decor and have a good hearty meal. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Great Service Cons: Atmosphere more
