This place is the worst coffee shop to do work or study. One of the mean waiters kicked me out because I wanted to plug in my laptop!!! Definitely NOT student-friendly!!! Pros:...

nice simple place 5/21/2010

I have been coming here for years. I find the food great and the staff helpful. If I ever have a problem they are more then willing to help fix it. One thing to remember, its NOT a full service restaurant. Some of these review seem to get upset about that. If you want a place where one waiter is going to cater to your ever need then you need to go somewhere else. They do not have Internet. That's the one thing I wish would change. I suppose if you are a writer its helpful to not have that distraction. The cupcakes I were told are not sweet lady Jane. They are made by Sweet Lady O. Overall I come back for the relaxed armosoahere. The big tables in the back make it easy to hold meetings. It can get very busy on Saturdays and Sundays just f.y.i. Pros: laid back, good food Cons: no internet more

Laid-Back Coffee House Sometimes Has Uptight Service 4/14/2010

The Coffee Table is a laid-back neighborhood chill spot even if it does feel a little weird, sort of like a doorway into the outer limits. On sunny days choose to sit on the back patio for a perfect place to enjoy the weather, eat some food, and talk about your next art installation with your friend/manager or sit indoors at the fun happy mosaic tables and bright fiesta walls….or in the front patio outdoors to take in the street scene. If you order the big Green Burrito your appetite is sure to be subdued. The bowl of tender fall apart meaty chili is great even though the kitchen seems to have a difficult time serving a garlic bread accompaniment. The server tried to convince me that rosemary muffin bread was their version of garlic bread until he finally relented and said they were out of garlic bread. Why didn’t you just say so? Patrons aren’t stupid. The service is a little on the cranky side in this kingdom but don’t let them push you around. They’re all about the business of the cash register and kitchen so if you have come here expecting to be coddled and flashed one happy smile after another you will be disappointed. Remember, that’s the bright happy colored kaleidoscopic mosaic table’s job so look down and hypnotize yourself into a world of lovely service. Some improvement would be welcome in this area. \r \r There are several vegi items to choose from including an $11 bowl of vegi chili – it better be one satisfying selection of stewed tomatoes. The salads have disappointed in the past but are still worth a try. Beware of thick creamy dressings on most salads. The omelets are normally prepared well so try South of the Border. Since the recession diet has infested some of the chicken and other sandwiches the vegi menu selections may be better even for the carnivores. It is a coffee joint so putting all the food talk aside it is worth mentioning that the coffee is not spectacular. In fact, it can even have a burnt flavor to it. \r \r I have heard complaints that Coffee Table doesn't normally allow computers to be plugged into wall outlets and other complaints from workers/students but I can't say for myself since I haven't gone there with my work. \r \r It’s popular for dinner with the locals and I suggest leaving those hours to the Silver Lake & Glendale crew since it doesn’t really feel like a dinner destination so stick to the earlier hours of brunching and lunching and order the heartier fare and your table of food, coffee, tea and conversation will be okay.\r \r To summarize: It’s a hit and miss joint depending on what you order.\r Warning: Free refills/discounted refills may not always be included in original purchase price\r FYI: Those amazing Red Velvet Cupcakes everybody brags about are supplied by Sweet Lady Jane’s in WeHO. \r \r Pros: Charming Back Patio Cons: Not sure how student/worker friendly this place is. more

Great Silverlake Casual Dining 11/1/2009

If you want food you'd find at home but don't feel like cookin it, enter Coffee Table. The salads and sandos are good. The chili is great. Breakfast on the back patio is popular with the locals -- if you go, try the Green Burrito or the oatmeal for something a bit healthier. Also has good dessert options including cakes and pies. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner and you should love any and all three. more

Perfect set up for breakfast and lunch 12/21/2008

My husband and I walk to the Coffee Table quite often and always have a nice experience. The menu has a huge variety of options and the prices are right. The decor is neat; they always have paintings up for sale from, I assume, local artists. Have yet to try any of the desserts that sit behind a window of the counter but they look amazing. Pros: Food is great Cons: Can be difficult to find a seat in the house more

best tofu scramble 12/23/2007

Really tasty food. Nice staff. Pretty place. Very clean. If you want a nice healthy breakfast go here. Pros: good food, healthy and clean Cons: they wouldnt give me a job more

Good Food and Surroundings. 12/17/2007

Although I have lived in Silver Lake forever, I recently went to the Coffee Table after I had gone to the Coffee Table in Eagle Rock. I have not been disappointed and the breakfast is always consistently good and the coffee is excellent. It's a great place to read (I always take a book) I appreciate the fact that cell phone usage in the restaurant is banned and my wireless laptop works just fine - no need to use someone else's electricity! Pros: No cell phone use more

Terrible coffee shop (No place to plug your laptop in) 4/3/2007

I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert on LA's coffee shops; I'm one of the hordes of people who likes to plunk down with a steaming cup of coffee and get some work done on my laptop. This particular activity is such a commonplace sight in LA's coffeeshops, perhaps more than any other city in the world, what with everyone working on that script or pilot show. It is very much a part of the culture of our city. That being said, the Coffee Table is the absolute WORST place to get some work done. Where to begin? To start with, this place has visible a/c outlets next to every table in there, but get this, NONE of them work. In fact, there are only two places you can plug your computer in, one at a very inconvenient bar-type area near the cash register where you get to sit on a bar stool of all things while people form a never-ending line behind you, and the other near the bathroom but where they won't allow you to plug in anyway because the wire lies along the floor. Apparently these two outlets that work are ""charging stations"" where you leave your computer while it charges and come back to get it when you're done...doing something else with your time. One word: dumb.\r \r It doesn't end there. The seats are uncomfortable, and the coffee often lukewarm. \r \r I'm sorry, but until this place wakes up and really gets with the times, it is NOT recommended by any means. Cons: (No place to charge computer, lukewarm coffee, unfriendly staff) more

mediocre at best 1/31/2007

The food is mediocre and the decor is horrible. I live within walking distance would rather drive farther for better food and atmosphere. I think people must go there for convenience. Coffee table folks...PLEASE get more creative and expand your menu or at least take your current staples to the next level..for example the breakfast burrito...boring. We all want to supprt local restaurants, but give us something a bit more interesting..you could take cues from many other GREAT Silverlake eateries...Thanks. more

Eagle Rock location is better 9/12/2006

I met a friend for Sunday brunch at the Silver Lake location. I arrived at 10:45am--no lines--plenty o' tables open. Great..! Within 10 minutes, about 20 or so people arrived and the line to order just got ridiculously backed up. I waited about 15 minutes just to order at the counter (there's no wait staff)--then another 20 minutes for my order to be delivered to my table. We sat in the rear patio which I didn't find to be all that impressive -- all the tables and chairs seemed to need a good wiping down. One plus is my oatmeal was really tasty. I won't go back to this location -- I prefer Eagle Rock -- where there's more space, light, parking, and shorter lines. Pros: big breakfast menu Cons: dingy furnishings, interior, and rear patio -- difficult parking on Rowena more

Thank You 9/12/2005

The power went out in most the city the other day right around lunch time. I went into this place and they were still serving food. I walked up to order and realized that I had no cash, just a credit card, and the thought hit me that I was about to go hungry for the day. They were so cool, they still took my order and told me I could pay them later. If more people had this sort of attitude in the world, it would be a much better place. (Yes, I did go back later and paid for the food). Many thanks. more

Great Food 2/1/2005

I love Coffee Table for a quick lunch or better yet - a long, casual brunch on the weekend. The food is great (I prefer lunch and dinner over the breakfast menu) and the people are nice. They used to have a magazine stand that you could purchase your favorite read and sip coffee, but no more. Furthur Casa has closed recently so there is a bit of construction noise next door. Without the recent hammering, the back patio is a usually quiet, relaxing place to hang out and have a scone. Pros: Good Food, Good Prices, Good Atmosphere Cons: Hard to Find Parking more

Doggy Friendly and Great Omelets 3/25/2003

I think I've found my Sunday morning routine. A nice jaunt at the dog park with Chiqui (my Terrier Mix), then a nice breakfast as the coffee table. Sweet thing is that this place is Doggy friendly. The Coffee Table allows doggies out in the front patio. They're even nice enough to bring out some water for your pooch if you ask. They also serve what is called the Silver Lake Omelets...man, it's the best tasting thing on the menu, if you ask me. Pico de gallo, avocado, cheese, and turkey sausage make up this tasty breakfast. For those who like it sweet, try their banana pancakes. Very yummy. Limited parking so get there early, or park around the block. Pros: Doggie Friendly, Great Omelets, Nice Patio Cons: parking can be a pain more

Add it to your list 2/28/2003

It's a coffee shop with a unique menu and lots of alternatives in terms of places to sit and relax, eat, read, chat or whatever. Pros: good food, quiet, great location more

Moderate Food Quality 6/18/2002

Although the food can be very good or not so good depending on who is in the kitchen, the setting and atmosphere of this local cafe is very relaxing. There is a beautiful outdoor patio in the back with no smoking, so you can sit outside and not have to worry about someone sitting down next to you and lighting up. A nice place to meet someone new or take someone special on a rainy day, although we haven't had any rain in awhile, don't wait for it to take someone there. Pros: nice setting, great patio, relaxing Cons: service, food, attitude from staff more

Archetypal Silver Lake scene 6/3/2002

I avoided the Coffee Table after reading about attitudinal help, etc., but I was pleasantly surprised when I returned for breakfast -- repeatedly. The omelletes are generous and well-prepared, but sans toast. I liked that I could add extra bacon TO the omellete, which resulted in a cholesterol binge that was worth every fat gram. Morning crowd is a hoot -- regulars line the walls with their laptops, and local writers of note regularly appear. This is definitely not your friendly neighborhood breakfast joint, but that's part of the scene. Bring your relatives from Iowa -- they'll enjoy the eats and talk about the crowd for years. One drawback: you stand in line to order, then the food is delivered to the table, so getting a coffee refill (50 cents) or a late side dish means you have to stand in line again, and it can be a long wait. Pros: Good food, Good value, Hipster crowd Cons: Horrendous parking, Long line for refills, Hipster crowd more
