The food was okay but very forgettable. If you're looking for good steak I recommend Maestros in Beverly Hills or Newport Beach. You won't be disappointed. more

Since 1919, the sign says. Hollywood's 6/8/2012

Since 1919, the sign says. Hollywood's oldest restaurant, outlasting the other greats like the Derby and Chasens, Musso and Frank hasn't changed much in the last 93 years - except for the prices. Name a historic Hollywood writer or literary figure and chances are, they've tipped a few at the bar. As for me, it's been one of my top three favorite restaurants in the world, since I was first taken there in the 80s. Now, each time my travels take me to Los Angeles, I have at least one meal at M&F. The occasion this time was a gathering of friends during one of my business trips. I was in the mood for ""plan and simple classic"", while the ladies wanted to slam down a few of the (reportedly) best martinis in the world. Having seen the bill (and quantity consumed), they must have been pretty OK. I started with the classic appetizer, ""Stuffed celery,"" which are stalks of celery slathered with a blue cheese concoction, sprinkled with paprika. At about a buck and a quarter a half stalk, undoubtedly the world's most expensive celery, but who cares? Service was over the top, as always, and the plates on the table ranged from a ribeye, to crab louis, mushroom ravioli, and lobster ravioli? And me, I had a dull roasted turkey sandwich. But they cut the crusts off the bread, if you find that exciting! Want to be an insider? Ask for a ""basked of butts"" when you sit down. Musso and Frank is great for a date night, and to ogle movie stars, vintage and current. There's almost always someone you'll recognize sitting nearby. Lunch for five, with a cocktail each? About $250 with tip. more

Incredible Service 7/26/2011

Our service was great and the waiter was adorable. Ambiance was romantic and definitely recommended. For the music,,,I would recommend jazz or house and the people were cool. Portions were good. more

Amazingly Snobbish 10/5/2010

The service is either a joke or I'm amazed people like this exist outside of the movies. They actually do treat you badly if you aren't famous or don't seem to be wealthy. It's hilarious in theory. This place is kind of an embarrassment. Tons of better places that treat you respectfully. more

weird pompous waiters 6/6/2009

hello,\r \r I happened to go to the ...Musso Grill several times, the food is excellent - waiters behaved pompously ""high nose"" on public, what amused us very much : as members of the FRENCH EMBASSY in WASHINGTON, we noticed the diverse ways of services at MUSSO GRILL : celebs (as actor JAMES WOODS and his guests sitting next to us) : servile (SERVILE, OBEQUIEUSE) waiters ; no celebs : take that and eat !! we enjoyed and had a lot of fun anyway, FRENCH TOUCH OF CLASS...\r \r ANN CHARLOTTE, \r COMTESSE de GRIBAUMONT BARN\r WASHINGTON Pros: FOOD IS ""FIRST CLASS, EXCELLENT"" more

Bah Humbug! 2/11/2009

I went to get a job here a couple of times and the people there had the audacity to look down their noses at me with a pompous grin; the second guy actually laughed at me and said ""you'll never work here!"" And although that might sound typically French to you, it isn't true French. I can only imagine how they treat their employees there. Any place with a vain and conceited morale code will be the same way with food preparation, and people like that always lack creativity. I don't trust these phoneys and they'll never get my money. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Last Bastion of Civility 12/31/2008

The previous critical reviews of Musso's are obviously written by charter members of the ""Applebee""'s fan club, and I must admit I am delighted to see they hated my favorite Hollywood restaurant. If their distaste for classic style keeps them and the rest of their classless sweat pant and t shirt wearing brethren away from the hallowed booths of this fine establishment, all the better. We prefer to drink our martinis and eat our steaks in peace without the intrusion of any more of you mall dwellers, thanks very much. In future, I would recommend the McDonalds across the street. more

Aweful service, way over priced food 12/28/2008

I've heard so much about this hollywood landmark, but had i known how bad the food and service were, I'd have opted to walk through and just take photos of this relic. The waiters are over 65 and very rude and slow...god help them, they are old but the service was terrible. We got old bacon and tiny cokes for 3.50 a piece. When we complained about the bacon, the geriatric insisted it was fresh then we realized he charged us $13 for two cokes and it took forever for him to figure this out, fix it and bring us our bill. The menu is bizarre...$16 avocado salad? and a $40 roast beef sandwich? The rest is all old people meat plates...gross. Pros: landmark building Cons: waiters on deaths door, over priced gross diner food more

Worst Food Ever, Total Tourist Trap Scam 11/27/2008

I went to Musso and Franks the other night with three friends as part of a weekly ""guys night out."" I have no idea how Musso & Frank managed to become an ""institution"" because the food just flat out 5ucks. It made two people in our party literally physically ill. It was like really really really bad cafeteria food, except instead of paying $5 or whatever, you're paying $25. I guess barely literate waiters in the spiffy red jackets is supposed to spell ""class"" and ""old school"" but the service was subpar despite the fancy getups. They say the cocktails are exceptional here, but they're not, at least my martini wasn't. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. And at $8.50, they didn't wash the bad taste of the food out of my mouth. Other minor matters: when we complained about the food, we were told the manager ""was busy."" Also, the Special of the Day was all gone at 8pm, as were several other dishes on the menu. So I ordered the ribs which came for some reason on cold saurkraut with turkey gravy. Don't believe the hype. We spent most of the night either in the restroom or watching and laughing at the grimaces on the faces of the other patrons. Cons: Terrible terrible food, snotty bad service, overpriced, overhyped. more

cool old hollywood restaurant 11/18/2008

It was a great place to see, really old school...The waiters seemed kinda stuffy but whatever..food was good and the place was almost empty..My father saw someone look in at the bar and told me it was James Woods.....so i took my neice and walked by and sure enough it was!My father asked the waiter if it would be rude to ask him for an autograph but the waiter said go ahead hes very nice. So when me and my neice came back by my dad was talking to Mr. Woods, so i went up and shook his hand and he was just the nicest person..........so 5 stars for James Woods , 4 stars for the restaurant........ more

facsist 10/17/2008

I am a 22 year old woman, asian who went with my boyfriend an african american and this was my experience at Musso and Franks. The moment I walked in the maitre de looked down on us. As we sat down we felt awkwardly uncomfortable. Besides the atmosphere, the building was beautiful, but the service was horrible. They got both of our orders wrong and the food although good was not spectacular. If anything you're paying for the history and not the actual quality. That is unless you decide to valet park your Rolls Royce and are white republicans. I would have giving it a quarter of a star if at all possible. more

The Best of ""Old Hollywood"" 8/20/2008

It looked like everything I thought it should be. It felt like ""old Hollywood."" The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is that I didn't eat there, only drank at the charming bar. Perhaps, if I had eaten, I'd have given it more or less. However, the best part were the waiters & bartenders. My husband had a great conversation in English & Spanish with a wonderful, little red jacketed Mexican waiter. He sang us a song about Mexico & wanting to be home. It reminded me of a poem I had just read with my students. My overall feeling is of great fondness & I would go back. Pros: ambience more

PRINT THE LEGEND... 8/15/2008

In John Ford's film Liberty Valance there's a famous quote...""When the legend becomes fact, print the legend!"" This place IS legendary! And people love the legend. However it is also horrible! BAD food, outrageous prices, poor service. You go here to absorb the history. The food tastes just as old. I've had many meals here. All bad. But you just gotta love AND hate this place. Very complex! Perhaps the most of ANY establishment in LA! So go with a warning. more

Horrible! 7/19/2008

HORRIBLE! The waiter was rude and tried charging us more then the price on the menu! The food was horrible... tasteless and not even warm! Cons: Service and Food! more

A bit dissappointed 4/27/2008

I've heard good things about this place long time ago, but just had a chance to try lately. First step in to the restaurant I was a little impressed by surrounding decoration and people. It was pretty nice restaurant, in their way, since 1919. Their Manhattan martini was very nice. The only major issue would be our server. He was not very understanding, also try to make us order filetmignon by stating that other kind of meat will be tough. (I wouldn't say any of the steaks from the restaurant I work would be tough to eat.) \r The only good dish was Braised Pork Chop, very tender and flavorful. The rest were not good, grill halibut was tasteless as same as club steak. They need to be seasoned. more

Old Hollywood 2/6/2008

Thick, rare filet mignon, bloody on the inside, slightly charred on the outside paired with a gin martini and a long legged blonde. If this is your idea of a good time, Musso and Frank's is the place for you. They do it well. Raymond Chandler and Orson Welles. more

Best Steak 12/22/2007

Best Steak ever! Great for an Old Hollywood night. Wonderful service. Make sure you park in their lot for cheep so you don't have to drive around for hours looking for parking. Pros: Great steak, people watching, service Cons: not for vegetarians more
