Pricey but nice 12/19/2009

Up-scale Eastern European? Almost oxymoronic. But that's what it is. This small bar has a great variety of Czech and Polish beers found nowhere else I've seen. This includes a great Czech dark beer... I forget the name, but it's listed as ""Caramelized taste..."" or something like that. They have the usual Eastern E food fare, pirogies, as well as a seafood platter. The bill for 5 of us, with no main courses, came to $175, and one of us only had 2 beers. Ouch! But the service was great (the Australian born bartender bought us a round of drinks), and the atmosphere was friendly. It's a good night out after mugging some rich guy. Pros: Great beer selection and service Cons: pricey and the bar is a bit cramped more

BEST BEER IN EAST VILLAGE 3/11/2008

Friends of mine recommended this bar to me after they had a party there. So I went there on thursday night with my coworkers after work. The moment we walked in, we were stunned by their decour(lookes exactly like bars in europe). we sat in a old picnic table, where a beautiful Polish waitress served us. We ordered some amazing Beers (Golden Pheasant- slovakian pilsner)that u wont find nowhere else. Later that night we asked our waitress to get us some polish food (polish sausage, Polish Lard(smalec...was delicious),their homefries and these amazing but weird sounding spicey worms(not really worms but small thin sausages). It was best Bar food and beer we had in EV. Pros: Good food and beer, Nice staff, Decour Cons: not enough seats more

Great ladies night out. 2/28/2008

I went with a group of my girlfriends last Friday night and we had such a great time that I thought I should others know about. It was 4 of us and we went through 3 bottles of wine and had some delicious food. The chef, a really charming man even came over to make sure we were happy. The place had a really nice crowd, and the service was friendly. We will definitely be going back, maybe tomorrow. ;-) Pros: Wine list, service, crowd more

Avoid at all costs 2/12/2008

I imagine the former Soviet -bloc countries enjoy a reception as frosty as the beer they pour. But this place actually laughs in your face and insults you for bothering them with your petty concerns=a drink. If the wine, beer, or anything else were good, this surly treatment might be amusing but the place just isn't worth it. I can't wait for whatever new place will open when this place closes. Pros: It's nearby. Cons: Walking in the door. more

Owner Message
  • Nestled in the heart of the East Village on E 7th Street, Klimat (a Slavic term for atmosphere) offers guests the delightfully blended experience of both wine bar, beer garden, and Eastern European bistro, all under one roof. We serve Eastern European and New World wines as well as draft and bottled beers from Europe's best breweries. In addition, we offer authentic dishes from Greece to Poland. Enjoy sipping an Argentinian Malbec and snacking on an assortment of Mediterranean dips in our candle-lit, red leather conversation pit, or saluting your friends with frosty mugs of Czech, Russian, and Polish brews and freshly-made pierogis over our solid wood dining tables. Our atmosphere is uniquely eclectic; bringing together details from 18th century Europe and the classic E. Village.

  • In Short:
With its wooden chairs, picnic tables, and a glass garage door that opens to the street, this East 7th Street beer and wine bar almost evokes a suburban backyard, though it...
