Excellent Salon 7/15/2010

I have been to deshea (sp?) a few times since I moved to the area. She does an excellent job. I would highly recommend her and this salon. Pros: professional, service, good advice, products, atmosphere more

New to the Area - You found your salon!!! 5/4/2010

One of the worst things about moving is finding a new hairstylist - colorist when you had the best in your old home town of Los Angeles. In L.A. my hairstylist was stylist/colorist to Nancy O'Dell - from Access Hollywood etc...etc...etc... many stars and I've been with her for over 10 years. I love her so much that I fly back to L.A. to get my hair done - no joke! Now I'm living in Houma, LA - very small town and I really don't trust anyone to do my hair....however, it's been 7 months since I've gotten my hair colored and it's needed and I don't have time to fly back to L.A......so I started researching New Orleans - read a lot of reviews on line - including the ones you're reading now and after I saw that Dallas won best colorist in 2009 I took the chance - made the appt. and got my hair done TODAY. Can I tell you how AWESOME Dallas is???? Can I tell you how DETAILED he is?????? I told him my I normally have 3 highlights and One Low Light applied to my hair...he looks at it and says ""I can match that"".....PLUS he went and not only colored the roots - but pulled some strands all the way through - colored the whole strand to get the colors even through the hair....it's BEAUTIFUL....NATURAL...it's perfect! I was hoping for ""just don't screw it up"" - and got....maybe better than L.A.???? Then the cut is fab.....again exactly what I wanted - he blew it out and I left salon beautiful!!! What a great feeling to have found a new home away from home!!! Pros: Color and Cut - Crazy Good Cons: Little Pricey - but worth it. more

Lovely escape, great services 1/19/2010

The atmosphere provides a quiet escape from the work day. The salon is not chatty or noisy, but relaxing and calming with soft colors and soft music. D'Shay has cut my hair a couple of times after she was recommended by a friend whose hair style I really liked. D'Shay is gentle with the shears, and does very skilled short haircuts. She also gives good advice as to what style will work with your own hair. If a photo of a hairstyle takes a lot of product to achieve the look, she'll say so so that you know what you are getting into and won't be disappointed the first time you try to style it yourself. I started with too short hair and she has been working with me to grow out the layers so I can get the style I want, but even after the first haircut, I started getting compliments on how good my hair looked. Pros: Location in the CBD, expert stylists Cons: none, so far more

Great Experience 1/7/2010

This was the haircut before my wedding and my first at this salon so naturally I was a little nervous. I expressed the importance of the haircut to Deshea on the phone and again when I got to the salon. She took the time to see how I styled my hair, discuss products, talked about how I normally get it cut, dry it, my last haircut, etc, etc...It was a full analysis! She gave me great conversation and a fantastic haircut. This is the result of her experience and willingness to take the time; she cared enough to get it right - not rush me out of the salon for her next appointment like so many do. I'll be seeing her for as long as I live in New Orleans. Pros: Very friendly staff, non intimidating atmosphere more

I love this place! 11/25/2009

I followed DeShea from another salon a couple of years ago. I hope she doesn't go anywhere else because I would be torn as to whether follow her or stay here! DeShea is an awesome stylist, but I really like everyone there. Everyone's really friendly and I like the salon itself. Dallas has a really good thing going! Pros: Awesome staff Cons: Wish it was closer to my house more

Great experience every time! 11/23/2009

Every time I walk out of Salon Du Beau Monde I am so pleased with my hair and the overall experience. DeShea is very talented and is willing to have fun with hair. For my latest visit, I decided to do some color. I am so happy with the results; a rich, chocolate brown. I would and have recommended this salon to friends. Best salon in NOLA...and I've been to my fair share. Pros: Talented staff who listen to your requests and ideas more

This man is an artist. 11/10/2009

I have read some of these reviews and as a former employee, I would like to give the potential client some insight into this salon. Dallas Alleman is one of the most highly regarded professionals in the industry. The man is a genius. His experience and educational background goes back 30+ years. His work rivals Sassoon, Jose Eber, Fekkai, and most of the renowned stylists in the business. He costs more because he is worth more and his expertise is specialized. Hair color is the center of salon services in his salon. He has tremendous knowledge in this area. He has educated people from Europe to the US and around the world in this business. He takes his work very seriously, paying very close attention to EVERY SINGLE DETAIL. That kind of attention and service is rare. Most stylists are incapable of staying that focused. This is a specialized salon, and if you are looking for a giddy hairdresser that never stops talking and isn't paying attention, then Dallas is not your man. If you are looking for someone who can give you something that no one else can, and can really deliver exceptional haircolor and a great haircut, then the extra price is worth it and you should take the time to book an appointment. He does do incredible updo's and fabulous party/special occasion hair. Fashion magazine caliber. Of all the people I have worked for, he is the most talented. And if you were having your portrait painted by Michaelangelo, would you expect him to talk the whole time? I would hope not!! more

Fantastic: HIGHLY Recommend for fab service! 8/3/2009

While on a road trip I decided to get my hair cut and colored and searched this site. After reading the reviews I called and booked an appt with Dominic that afternoon. I wanted my cut cleaned up and my color was a correction, not just a one-process, as I'd been doing it at home. Dominic and Dallas didn't sigh or shake their heads, instead they collaborated and Dominic was perfect. He made me feel at home and left me to read when I needed a break (I'm also recovering from a spinal fusion, so I get tired and overheated easily). When the hair drying caused problems he was calm and sweet with me. My cut is FANTASTIC, and I didn't pay a penny over what I was quoted on the phone. The owner Dallas was kind and welcoming, as was the girl who worked up front with the phones. I could easily walk back to the W by myself. Thanks! I LOVE my 'do! Pros: attention to detail, communication, aveda products more

I love this salon! 6/27/2009

I've been to Salon Du Beau seeing Dallas several times. He spends a lot of time perfecting my haircut. The last salon I went to my hairdresser would juggle several clients at once. This drove me crazy. If I am paying a lot for a hair cut I want to think the salon is giving me full attention while I am there. Dallas certainly does this. He will spend a lot of time making sure the cut is perfect. He is very quiet during the cut but I really prefer that. I am quiet also and don't like real chatty hairdressers. But, he is very personable. My haircut is always beautiful. The salon is clean, very low keyed and not pretentious. The gals that work there are very nice also. Though, I have never had my hair done by them so I can't speak on that. The only negative for me is the price. Unfortunaley, due to the economy I won't be able to go back until things start to turn around. Pros: Excellent precision haircuts Cons: The price more

Didn't want my business 6/10/2009

Called 2+ weeks in advance for 2 appointments - an updo/style & makeup for a wedding I was going to be in town for. Also wanted to book a color & cut for my mother. Was politely told that they didn't do makeup (although their website lists Adam the make up artist) and that basically they don't do updos for non-clients due to their limited staff. WOW - what a disappointment. Guess they don't need the biz. It's too bad - as mother of the groom I might have been good advertising for the salon. They should list their restrictions on their website. Really burst my bubble and will definitely advise my New Orleans friends/family NOT to call them. more

Free Attitude with your $100 Haircut 6/9/2009

I've been going to this salon since before the storm. I tolerated the attitude because I felt they were the best in the city. Last time I was there I was treated so poorly I vowed never to return. The blonde that Dallas used looked beautiful but damaged my hair so significantly that I have to keep cutting my hair short every month. I have no problem paying $100 for a haircut but I refuse to be mistreated and practically ignored by my hairstylist. Pros: Upscale Facility and quality haircut Cons: Damaged my hair more

Atrocious 12/29/2008

The staff has to be writing the other reviews because my experience there can only be summed up in one word: ATROCIOUS. My appointment was with Rachel and she gave me the worst color & cut ever. more

Needed some color correction, got me back into this century! 10/22/2008

Rachel at SDBM is a really competent coloris/stylist! She understood my griefs with past colorists and bad haircuts! Thank God because my hair was headed down Melrose Avenue and that's about a decade too late! \r Worth it ! more

Great service and advice 8/18/2008

I absolutely loved the experience I had at Salon Du Beau Monde. I am new to NOLA and needed a salon. I got lucky when I made the choice to make an appointment at this salon. Rest assured that I am in no way associated with the business. I chose the salon as a stab in the dark after seeing the website. I am completely satisfied with Rachael?s color and cut that she gave me. She took the time to discuss with me what I wanted. I am getting married in April and she even took the time to consider how I wanted my hair to be for the wedding. She advised me not to go as drastically short as I initially wanted, due to the fact that I want to have long hair again for the big day. I am so glad that I listened to her! Additionally, the color was brilliant. I was the only customer in the place, as my appointment was really late in the day, but Rachael and Dallas made me feel right at home. I would recommend this salon to anyone who asked. It was a charming experience for a reasonable price. Pros: no rush service here, the staff takes the time to actually consult with you Cons: cant really think of one more

Best salon experience I have ever had 7/30/2008

DeShea rocks! My cut and color was exactly what I wanted and I LOVE my hair. I have received many compliments!! DeShea has lots of talent and fabulous personality. She also spends a lot of time with each client, which I greatly appreciate. Not your average get in-get out hair salon. The staff is very friendly and chic. It is not an extremely busy salon with stylists and clients all over the place so when I come here I can relax and enjoy the warm atmosphere. 100% attention is giving to the client. I think I found my new neighborhood salon!!! :-) more

Best Salon in New Orleans 7/29/2008

I am very picky about my hair. Before visiting Rachel at Salon Beau Du Monde, I jumped from salon to salon trying to find the right color/cut combo. It seemed that either i got a great cut and a bad color, or a great color bad cut whenever I visited other salons. However, after talking to Rachel about what I really wanted my hair to look like, she took her time to explain that I would have to be patient to slowly transform the color and the layers into the right look (due to the bad past cuts/color). Two trips later and the results were PERFECT. I am approached on a weekly basis about ""who colors your hair? Is it even colored? It looks so natural!"" A natural looking blonde is hard to achieve, and I am happy to report that Rachel knows exactly how to achieve this. Furthermore, my layers are finally ""layered"" right and fall perfect after a simple dry. Everytime someone asks about my hair, I send them to her. She is patient, methodical, and knowledgable, dispite her young age. And after sending over ten friends in her direction, we all keep coming back for more! If you want subtle, healthy, natural looking locks, visit Salon Beau Du Monde. Pros: patient, knowledgable, methodical staff, Cons: due to the time put in to your hair, expect to be there longer more

Exactly What I Wanted 6/9/2008

I had a great experience at Salon du Beau Monde. I had a cut and highlight/lowlight combo in the first week of June '08. Dallas did both my cut and color, He is very calm and confident, my hair looks great, he put me on the right track to get my hair the way I want it. The color is exactly what I wanted, he did everything with care and precision. The results are the best I have ever had. The experience was very relaxing as there was none of that typical salon snobbery or arrogance, Dallas is completely above all of that because he truly knows what he is doing! They stay open late which is great!\r If you are looking for a great salon, look no further. more

A top notch salon 5/30/2008

I felt compelled to write here and describe my very positive experience after I'd recommended this place to a friend and she called me to tell me about the negative reviews on this site. I hadn't noticed the reviews before, and was actually shocked. Dallas, the owner, is a wonderful and skilled stylist, who is super nice and friendly. He works with different hair textures and styles, and I always love what the salon does with my (and others') hair. In fact, it's near perfect when I leave! The staff members are also nice and welcoming. In fact, I moved into the neighborhood recently, happened to walk by, and stopped in and made an appointment--no fuss, no muss. Everyone was nice and professional, and I've been going ever since. more

Avoid- Bad cut and attitude 4/9/2008

I have been to this salon twice for a haircut. I was not satisfied the first time but went back again anyway out of convenience (location). The same hair dresser, a young blonde that seemed inexperienced and unfriendly cut my hair both times. The second time once the cut was over I was asked to look in the mirror and let her know what I thought. When I told her that I thought it looked like a mushroom top and that the top layer was too short, she said"" well there is nothing I can do with that because it is too short"". WHY would she have cut a layer well above my ears, who does that??????????? She said that her own doing was too short!!!!!!\r \r I will never go to this salon again. That young lady should go back to beauty school.\r \r Also, I am a dog lover, but not a fan of fleas. If you do not mind bad haircuts, rudeness and fleas then this place is for you.\r \r Very unfortunate. more

Very Unpleasant Experience 4/7/2008

Beau Monde is an attractive salon conveniently located in the CBD. I visited the salon once after growing out a ""bad haircut"" for over six months. \r \r The stylist who cut my hair seemed very skilled. Unfortunately the stylist either misunderstood or disregarded me during our initial consult. I was very specific about not wanting thick bangs or fringe around my face and the stylist cut the same thick bangs I'd just spent half the year growing out. When I returned to the salon to request she tweak the cut her solution was to cut deeper layers in the back of my hair. I finally returned a third time with photos of how I wanted the front of my hair to be angled away from my face. She declined to work further on my hair. When I requested further assistance the proprieter of the salon declined to assist me or to refer me to an alternative stylist, or even to evaluate the cut and provide some styling recommendations to make the cut easier to live with as it grew out. \r \r This experience was stressful and humiliating. The real measure of a company's service standards is demonstrated in their responses and efforts when a mishap occurs and this salon was a complete disappointment in that regard. Pros: Good location, clean environment, intimate atmosphere Cons: In my opinion the salon did not assist me when mistakes were made with my haircut. more
