Great local wines 5/17/2011

I discovered this place while eating at the Old Place which is next door. Deana is super- she's very knowledgeable and will help you out if you want a recommendation. It's great- they feature all the local wines in Malibu. They also have a tasting room- only $15 for the tasting when i was there which is totally reasonable. Great to come over and grab a glass of wine here while you're waiting for a table at the Old Place. They'll even call over to tell you your table is ready! more

Awesome 8/28/2009

If you are into wine like I am, you might have thoughts of building a wine bar, a wine store.... This is your dream... come and visit it. Worth the fantastic drive, this destination is ideal for any visit to Malibu and very close to the 101 on your way home. Tell them I sent you! Pros: Out of a dream more

What a fun find! 8/26/2009

Stumbled upon this gem of a place on way back from the beach. Great setting and fun people, this is a cool, funky place that features local wines. An there are more than you might imagine! They're set up for group functions, too. Definitely have to return to this tasting room when we've more time! Pros: Cool, quaint out of the way place to taste new wines Cons: Still rather new and growing more

Great staff and location 8/21/2009

I have now been to several events at the Cornell Winery and I have had a wonderful experience every time. The owners are great and attend to their clients’ every need. The ambiance is fantastic! You can feel the history of the building and it fits in flawlessly to its canyon surroundings. It is perfect for company parties or wedding receptions, both of which I have attended at the winery. I have also stopped by on a weekend afternoon to taste some good wine and while away the day. I highly recommend this undiscovered gem. Pros: I know of nothing like it in LA Cons: None that I can think of more

An enjoyable experience! 8/20/2009

I went there with three friends on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. We were serviced by the owners despite the fact that they had another employee woking and they explained the wines we sampled explicitly. We were so happy with our experience, we ended up buying three bottles of the wines we sampled. I definitely would go back. Pros: Great, Affordable Wine. more

Wine, Art, History, Local Wine & Charm 8/20/2009

The owners are genuinely charming. The building is beautiful, rustic yet elegant. The wine from this area is so good - it's exciting. Fantastic place for an afternoon wine-tasting, or a special private event. It is absolute magic, covered with amazing art, offering a unique and wonder giftshop, and fun items.... like chocolate pasta! This place is the BEST! See it for yourself and I konw you'll agree. I want to work there! Pros: Unlike any winetasting experience I've ever had! GREAT! Cons: No Cons whatsoever more

Just what we need in the Malibu hills 8/19/2009

Cornell has created the perfect niche for locals and visitors to connect with the broad array of very high quality wines now coming from the Malibu region.\r While others are showcasing wines that are really from elsewhere, Cornell has wines that show the variety that \r the terroir creates here along our coast and mountains.\r Plus the staff are among the warmest, most knowledgeable, genuine folk you will find in a wine setting.\r It is worth a visit, and like me, you will soon make it a regular stop! Pros: Amazing selection of locally grown wines Cons: Should be open seven days a week more

Wine tasting at it's best!! 8/19/2009

Wait until you walk inside and see the beautiful wood bar and the wonderful 30 foot long table in the back topped with glass candelabras. The art work around the store is all from local artists and the proprietor can tell you all about the history of the area (which is vast) while pouring you fantastic wines from the Malibu regions and beyond. Everyone is treated like family. Trust me, you will be coming back again and again. Pros: The building has been redone to perfection! Cons: I can't think of any. more

Warm and inviting ambiance. 8/19/2009

I have been to this winery a few times now and every time I go there, I am greeted right away by the owners, Denise and Tim. They are both wonderfully sweet and very knowledgable about the wines. I see them making sure their customers have their questions answered. \r \r I felt right at home the second I walked in the door; the ambiance is amazing. They really did a fantastic job with desiging and furnishing the winery. I will return many times over and tell everyone I know to check the winery out. \r \r Pros: Best service by the owners and excellent wine. Cons: Too bad the tasting room did not open sooner. more

Just a bit of country in Malibu 8/19/2009

The first time I went to Cornell Winery was for a private event. The tasting room is absolutely gorgeous with such amazing art. The catered food was spectacular and the wine was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The best part was the Peacock that walked up to my car and said ""hi"" as I was parking. \r \r I have visited the tasting room many times since and have had a wonderful experience every single time. In fact, I think I may have my own birthday party here! \r \r Thanks to the owners for creating such a special place! Pros: location & proprieters are lovely Cons: I can't go everyday more

Honor your friends and coworkers at Cornell Winery 8/19/2009

A team of us from Seattle were sent to work on a campaign with colleagues in the Los Angeles area. At the end of a week of hard work, we wanted a special place to top off a successful partnership so we selected Cornell Winery & Tasting Room for our venue. Everyone was impressed by the beautiful decor, the great wine and the personal care taken by the owners to make our group feel welcomed and important. Needless to say, the Seattlites vowed to return, and the locals were thrilled to find such a gem within driving distance. My husband and I are planning a trip to Los Angeles soon, and you can bet that Cornell Winery is on the top of our list of ""must's."" Try it, you won't be disappointed. Pros: Setting is warm and hosts are inviting Cons: Not open every day! more

A great escape from the hustle and bustle 8/19/2009

Imagine yourself wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city but you don't want to drive far. Across from the Peter Strauss Ranch you'll find yourself in what appears to be a set of a small town out of a movie. Cornell Winery is hideaway from the city nestled in between an Old Place and an antique shop. Inside you'll find yourself at a candy store made just for wine lovers. Works of art cover the walls and as you admire the items for sale you are greeted with smiles by the owners Tim and Denise. For $10 you can sample their selection of local wines and sit at the main dining table or at the bar. If you are not an expert at wine you will learn quite a bit on your first visit. I am hooked on this place, be sure to sign up to their mailing list for special events or become a fan on Facebook. \r Pros: Friendly staff more

Hard to keep secret! 8/19/2009

I've actually considered not telling anyone about this place as I want it all to myself (hard to buck the programming!). I stumbled upon this place with a friend of mine one Thursday afternoon after enjoying a well deserved day of rest at the beach. Four hours later I found myself trying to find a reason to leave as I was feeling bad for taking up so much of these wonderful peoples time. We tasted 9 wines from the Santa Monica Mountains and met some of the most interesting people to date, a stuntman, a falconer, a didgeridoo player, an amazing artist whose paintings adorn the walls, two winemakers and a ballerina, magical! Being from Boston, I felt as though I found a new family. Pros: Some of the most interesting wines I've tasted Cons: They eventually close each day more

Awesome place to be with friends 8/19/2009

The location and owners of Cornell make it a great place to visit with friends and family. The peacocks that rome around the area and the paintings on the wall inside make you feel like you're in another part of the world. If you haven't experienced Cornell I recommend that you do at least once or more in their lifetime. Pros: Great wine selection and great owners more

A little bit of Napa in L.A.! 8/19/2009

This place continues the grand tradition of beautiful and warm wine tasting rooms well established in Napa and Sonoma. It's a great place to come and sample a wide variety of local wines and hear great stories about a historical corner of our state that few people know about. The Cornell Winery is a little bit of magic in the Malibu mountains! more
