Not so hot 10/8/2009

We tried this new restaurant shortly after it opened. When we arrived 3-4 other groups did also. We noticed other people leaving just after they sat down. After looking at tthe menu we saw why. The prices were well beyond what others were charging. The food was ok, not great. The portions were average - but small for the price. There was nothing outstanding about the preparation. We have never gone back because we felt gouged with the pricing. I feel sure that a few of the employees / managers / owners are making pompous / overly positive reviews here. You can spot them by the 5 star rating!! Pros: Wait staff was attentive Cons: Price Price Price - and only fair food at that. more

Average steakhouse 9/18/2009

LOOKS LIKE I WASN'T THE ONLY CUSTOMER THAT WAS UNIMPRESSED - THEY ARE CLOSED. This is an average restaurant. Steaks are OK but nothing special. Service is OK, but not attentive. In short - we were not impressed and there is nothing about the experience that would make us want to return. Pros: Quite a nice interior Cons: Indifferent food and service more

Great Dinner Horrible Brunch 8/5/2009

My family has been frequenting Bentley's for dinner for the past year. We love the service, especially the male staff, and the steaks and fish are great. No waiting in line, and I don't know why. Chain restaurants you will wait for an hour with a bad dining experiance waiting at the end for you. Recently we went for Sunday brunch. It was reasonably priced but the food was horrible. Also, we went to the bar before we sat down for some bloddy mary's and the bartender was completely unprofessional for a semi-fine dining restaurant. In the end the dinner's are great but avoid the brunch. Pros: Excellent service, great steaks Cons: Brunch was a joke more

Use to be better 6/19/2009

My wife and I have been to Bentley's several times. We liked going at first because the food was very good, the service was very good, and it wasn't crowded so we could get a table on a weekend night without waiting. The last few times we've gone, though, the food has not been prepared as well. The last two times I got salmon and mahi mahi dishes and the fish was overcooked both times. The asparagas this last time was so overcooked it was like mush and my knife literally fell through it when I went to cut it. The quality of the food doesn't seem to have gone down any, but the preparation has been a disappointment. I hope they're able to return to the quality we first experienced. Pros: Great service, good food Cons: overcooked food. more

Great place to celebrate with a medium sized group 3/22/2009

We went there for my husband's birthday. It was a party of 8, the waiter was really on top of things and very attentive. Importantly, the food was exceptional! We have been in the Triangle area for a year now and we have been rather disappointed with most of our dining experiences here. I was a little unsure about Bentley's at first and figured it would be a "steak" place. I was pleasantly surprised that the food had the "fusion-y" feel that you associate with big city restaurants. Even our vegetarian friends thoroughly enjoyed the limited vegetarian options there are. I highly recommend their steaks (of course) and risotto! Pros: Food Cons: Can't think of any! more

We liked it! 3/7/2009

We went to Bentley's for the first time last night. We had a reservation for dinner at 7:00 on a Saturday night and when we pulled into the parking lot, it was practically empty. We got nervous, thinking this was a bad sign, but were starving so we decided to go in and eat there anyway. I am glad we did! The hostess at the front was very welcoming and showed us to our table right away. The waitress come over quite quickly to get our drink order. We ordered the stuffed banana peppers for appetizers, they were delicious. I had the filet mignon and my husband ordered a grilled chicken salad. The filet, which I ordered medium-well, was cooked PERFECTLY. I have been to much nicer/fancier restaurants where a steak ordered medium-well comes out medium and it has to be sent back. So, overall the food was very tasty. Overall the service was great, our waitress was very attentive to our needs and came by to ask if we needed refills on anything multiple times. By the time we paid the check, we noticed the dining room had filled up and they were really quite busy. I recommend you give this place a try! Pros: No wait on a Saturday night more

Food Average, Service Poor 2/20/2009

We went here for a valentine's dinner in February of 2009. I believe they have dropped their prices, but the food quality was the same you would get at any local alehouse or chain restaurant. I had the Mediterranean salad, my husband got the ribeye. Ribeye came with a potato gratin that wasn't anything special, could have been betty crocker out of a box, and three or four asparagus spears. The asparagus spears were quite large, nothing fancy, just steamed asparagus. He did say the ribeye was a good steak. My salad was good, but again, nothing to write home about. I expected more from this upscale restaurant. Our server was terrible. She didn't tell us the specials that I found about after we had ordered from another server, didn't offer us more wine, and seemed clueless when I asked specifics about a vegetarian dish (actually, she pretty much said it was a weird combination and she didn't like it). Instead of offering us a dessert menu, she just brought us the check after our plates were cleared. I had to ask her for the dessert menu. I ordered the creme brulee, which she then told me was chocolate (would have been nice to know when she brought us the menu) so we ordered the new york style cheesecake. The menu said it would come with a Kahlua sauce but it came out with raspberry sauce instead, which again would have been nice to know. She dropped our check off with the dessert plate. This is not the type of service I would expect from a restaurant like bentley's. So, if you want chili's or any other chain type food and service, with a better atmosphere, bentley's is fine, but don't get your hopes up like I did of having a nicer dining experience. Pros: Nice atmoshpere for the price Cons: Food average, service below average more

Bad Brunch, Bad Service 2/15/2009

I went to this restaurant, we were seated by an unfriendly hostess who said nothing. Then, when we were finally greeted by the waitress, we had to ask her for a menu. Then she proceeded to tell us that they were only serving brunch, so I told her we didn't realize that, it was our FIRST visit. You think this would change her attitude and she would tell us about the restaurant and about what was being served at brunch, or maybe the price... but NO! She walked away. We went to the brunch area, and there was hardly any food, the set up was horrible, and we barely ate anything. When we got our bill, we were shocked to find out how much brunch was, OVERPRICED! Don't bother going there for brunch. more

Over Priced, Bad Service, Dont bother going! 2/15/2009

This was my first visit to Bentleys with a friend we went for Brunch-Total let down WAY over priced for what they were serving, Brunch was buffet style and had just been sitting out not refreshed food was cold and over cooked-Wait staff not friendly or helpful, it being our first time there we did not know that it was only brunch were not given instructions or welcomed-waitress took forever to greet us and did not seem like she was happy to be working. Tables and floor was dirty! Will not be going back!! dont waste your money!!! Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service, cleanliness, cost more

Best Kept Secret in Cary 2/5/2009

If you havent checked out Bentley's yet, you don't know what you are missing. Great steaks and seafood with an incredible wine and martini list. $5 apps in the bar throughout the week is what brought me there the first time, now I am a frequent visitor. Pros: food, drinks, service, atmosphere Cons: location, it is a little hard to get to more

Fathers Day dinner success 6/14/2008

Took my parents to Bentleys for Father's Day dinner. It couldn't have been more perfect. Our server was great and explained all of the dishes to us. He knew what was spicy and helped my mom find a dish that worked with her dietary needs. The chef was very nice to prepare her food with no butter or salt. The food was wonderful and it was way better than grilling a big steak for my father in the back yard. They even cut a larger than normal steak for him. We will be going back! Pros: The building is so pretty and cozy! The food was excellent. Cons: none more

Best little secret in Cary 5/16/2008

My husband and I go out to eat all the time and tonight we had the best meal at Bentleys. They weren't very busy when we sat down. The bar seemed to be a little crowed with people our age, but there were only four other tables sat in the dining area. The server was pleasant and seemed to enjoy working there. The salads came and we knew we were in for a treat. They were unbeleivable. Not the typical lettuce, tomato, and onion that everyone pushes at you these days. The server talked my husband into getting the NY Strip with a script about aged steaks. He did sound like this was a required drill when describing the steaks. I had the Mahi with some sort of fruit salsa, very nice. The dining room was fairly full when we left, but it was nice not having to wait in line to get a table in one of the all to common generic places with identical menus. Pros: Exceptional food Cons: Awkward entrance to restaurant more

Great food at decent price 5/15/2008

Had dinner there with my wife Saturday before Mothers Day. They were pretty busy, but the staff took care of our every need. I like not having to ask for everything and Heather anticipated our needs and was there when we needed her. I had the Filet, which was cooked perfectly with just the right seasoning, and my wife had the Cajun Tuna. She gets it everytime we go there and loves it. We showed up without a reservation and they worked us in, even though it was busy. Had just enough time to enjoy a couple of cocktails before being seated. Bentleys is one of our favorite spots and we highly recommend it. Pros: Great food at a good price Cons: A little difficult to find in Crossroads more

Small portions not worth the price 5/11/2008

We visited Bentley's on Mother's Day. The service was average and the atmosphere was nice. The waitress insisted on filling my glass with water without even asking my wife if she needed or wanted a refill. I orderd the Walnut shrimp, my wife and mother ordered the Scallop something meal while my kids ordered burgers. When the entres arrived I wanted to laugh. It looked as if we ordered appetizers. The portions were extremely small. There were 6 medium size shrimp and a laddle of rice with my meal and my wife and mother had the pleasure of enjoying 4 medium size scallops with a laddle of rice. The $11.00 burgers we big, meaty and tasted pretty good but, the stringy parmesean fries were not very impressive. When I left the restaurant I went home and ate dinner. I will never go to Bentley's again unless, of course, if someone else is paying. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: portions more

Very Romantic atmosphere 2/10/2008

Bentley has a very intimate atmosphere, the food is good but a little pricey for the quality. The bar menu is awesome just ask their bartender Greg to whip you up a martini. They are some of the best in the triangle. This would be a great place to take a date, but leave the kids at home. I had some pasta that was a little bland in flavor, but my boyfriend had the tuna steak and it was very tasty. The wait staff was very friendly, we were seated promptly. Our food was served promptly and it was nice and hot. Pros: Great ambiance Cons: pricey more

Bentley's 2/8/2008

I used to live in NYC, so I've been to "21," Per Se, Pierre au Tunnel, etc The service at Bentley's is generally good, but once I left a $20 bill for a $9.20 sandwich and the lounge waiter asked "if I wanted change." (!: -((Yes, I'm not about to give you a 40 percent tip. more

Nice steak 2/7/2008

In doing business within the triangle, I visit many rest. This one is good for the area. Nice staff, good meals, nothing spectacular, Kelly was good waiting on us. more

PHONE NUMBER LISTED IS INCORRECT 12/19/2007

Bentley's phone number is 919-854-0644. The number listed on this description is the corporate office number. For reservations, event details and directions, please call the restaurant directly. Pros: Great service, excellent value, atmosphere more

We love this place! 8/13/2007

We had no idea what we were in for tonight. My fiance and I went out for a bite to eat in Cary and decided to try Bentleys as we had not been there before. The restaurant is beautiful and was elegantly light with low amber lighting on every table. Our waitress was an absolute doll and very knowledgeable about the menu. The appetizer and both of our steaks were incredible. Probably the best I've had in Raleigh. I had the filet... I highly recommend it. The food came out quickly and the manager even stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking. We couldn't believe what an awesome little place we had stumbled upon. It's definitely a hidden gem among the customary chain restaurants on Walnut St. Pros: great food. awesome staff more

The name gives a casual impression, but this upscale restaurant actually is much more than just an ordinary place to dine.

Editorial
  • In Short
Rich mahogany interior and elegant hardwood floors quickly dismiss the thought of an average neighborhood grill. The shopping locale attracts a mix of couples, families, and corporate guests. New American is more apt, with a tasty twist on the crabcakes and a favorite of regulars, petit filet spiedini. Bring a date and dine at an intimate spot toward the back or make it a fun gathering with a celebratory martini or two, which can easily supplement dessert.
