I grew up in Western PA. A guy-guy with a bad haircut and hillbilly ideals. Never imagined I would find myself writing a review for a salon. I met Gabriel through a friend 13 years ago and he's been cutting my hair ever since. I'm still amazed at how a great haircut can make you feel. Gabriel and Jeff are great at what they do and are simply good people. The studio is located on a great block in the West Village and the small space lends itself to the intimacy of the neighborhood. This is hands-down the best salon experience imaginable. I see Gabriel and I have never gotten a better cut or color from anyone. The results are so excellent, I wish I could post pictures on citysearch. I've walked into a lot of upscale salons, armed with a blind optimism that the stylist will make me look my best--and Sparkle is the only establishment to have met and exceeded my expectations *every time*. The personal attention, the atmosphere, the fabulous playlists on the stereo--everything is perfect. Gabriel seems to have an intuitive understanding of my style and thus how I want to look walking out the salon doors. This must sound hyperbolic to the uninitiated, but I promise, you won't want to return to whomever you were seeing before. Spakle Beauty Studio is an utter delight! The service is truly personalized, and they make you feel like you're their only client. Talk about feeling important! I made an appointment the other day for this place, having walked past it many times. I'm extremely particular when it comes to my hair and have tried many NY salons. I've never been so ecstatic about a cut and color in my life! The owners greeted me with such politeness and introduced me to Laura the assistant. it's not often in this crazy city of ours that people are so thoughtful. I was given a consultation and felt like I'd really been listened too. The cut took an hour and the attention to detail was amazing. What really stood out was the color. I've been trying to get this particular shade of blonde for years, but no-one has been able to get even close. All this and a great atmosphere too. I have recommended this place to many of my friends and am going back in 6 weeks. I'm hooked! Pros: Great coloring technique. Beautiful cuts. Cons: There isn't another one uptown! more

I recently moved to New York and I was recommended by a friend to Laura at Sparkle. I couldn't seem to get my color exactly how I wanted it. She took care of my color, it looks great and my cut is so easy so manage. She took such great care of me, even moisturized my hands with their sparkle lotion and touched up my makeup. The salon is so cute and everyone is really sweet. more

I went here for a touch-up on a bad highlighting job I got at another salon. I brought a picture of the color that I wanted so there would be no miscommunication, but I ended up getting a much darker color with ugly gray undertones. I looked like Michael Keaton in Beatlejuice and they charged me a ludicrous sum for it. more

I have been going to Sparkle for over two years, and Gabriel is just fantastic, he makes me look absolutely gorgeous everytime. I get compliments daily from colleagues and clients on my hair, and on the color and the cut. The personalized service, warm and respectful treatment and accommodating nature of Gabriel and Jeffrey make this Salon the best I have ever been too. I have been recommending Sparkle to everyone and can't say enough great things about this place, I am just so glad I found them! And while yes, this great work and royal treatment come with a price, it is well worth it, when you look great you feel great, and it flows into every aspect of your life, you start taking even better care of yourself when you are happy with what you see!! This is the best salon I have ever been to! The atmosphere was like an old Hollywood dressing room. How fabulous is that? Not only did I receive professional service, I received the best haircut/color that I have ever received. Now I have been to some top-notch places before, mainly in LA that I thought were completely fabulous. Sparkle/Jeff has taken it to a completely new level! First of all, they understand hair/face shapes and what works best with you. They also listen to you (what a new concept!) Jeff did my cut and my color, both coming out completely incredible. I have very fine hair that has been deemed as ""dry clean only"" by several stylists. It takes someone special to handle this mane, so I refuse to go to less than the best. He was so professional, easy to talk to, and well dressed to boot. When my hair cut was complete, the even re-touched my makeup. I also got a hand massage. Both awesome extras that do not occur very often! Jeff even ran down the street to the magazine stand and bought me some gossip mags to read! Now I'm not saying that this comes without a price, but I am definitely labeling this experience as money well spent! GO SEE JEFF!! My first visit to the salon and I can't wait to go back. Gabrielle is very talented and so charming. My highlights (mix of low and high) came out amazing. I get complemented every day! The cut is also great and I never felt so refreshed and beautiful after leaving a salon before. Sally is super sweet and also has amazing talent. She did my makeup so beautiful, as well as twezing my eybrows to complete perfection. Jeffrey was such a pleasure also. They really do give you personal service and great quality in the work they do. I have been going to Gabriel for haircuts/coloring for over 12 years and am so glad he and Jeffrey started Sparkle Studio. The atmosphere is soothing and wonderful. You feel totally pampered the minute you step through the door. Gabriel is a magician when it comes to hair/make-up; he is creative and knows not only the fashion trends but also clients' personalities........I always leave feeling like a star after he is done. If you want hair like a celebrity or rock star, or simply an excellent cut or styling, you don't have to spend up to 800.00 for a cut. Gabriel, who has worked on the most famous of the famous, done magazine shoots, album covers, music videos, TV shows and backstage beauty at awards shows, can do it all. He just has an incredible eye for proportion and style, and can do anything (including makeup). He keeps up with how celebs look, so if you say that you want your hair cut like a certain celeb, he will know exactly what to do. I have been going to him for 7 years for my color and my cuts and I never have to worry about my hair. My teenage daughter also goes to Gabriel for a cut that always looks good and makes her look like a rock star. Pros: attention, fab music playing, atmosphere more

I travel over three hours every four weeks to have my hair cut, colored and styled by the very talented Gabriel of Sparkle Beauty Studio. I always leave Sparkle feeling beautiful, relaxed, happy and perfectly satisfied. The salon is a wonderful place to relax, read a magazine, hang out and enjoy a delicious cup of peppermint tea. There is never a wait, everyone is warm, friendly and very caring. I always feel like a very VIP client. In fact, I love the whole experience of being there, in that lovely spot in the West Village. Nicole brings me tea, Sally touches up my make-up, Jeffrey is a delight to be around and always has a fabulous recommendation for lunch in the city, and of course the hair by Gabriel-perfectly fabulous every time. I had never stepped into a NYC salon before and I didnt know what to expect. The location was quiet and peaceful and when I walked into the salon, I was amazed at the decor.
