We were re-landscaping our entire back yard and bought two bright pink ""Arapahoe"" crape myrtles from HGC on Katy Freeway early last spring.\r \r The trees went in well but didn't bloom like everyone else's here in S.Katy. We figured that perhaps they were in some sort of shock and perhaps we would see flowers next year. Foliage looked fine.\r \r While recently driving on Grnd Prkwy I saw the city's Nachez (sparse white) crape myrtles beginning to bloom and the foliage looked identical to ours... While outside the other night I see that indeed our trees are not what we purchased, they are very undramatic white trees. HGC probably couldn't sell this undesirable inventory and put desirable ""Arapahoe"" tags on these trees. \r \r I still can't find anyone at HGC who speaks English except for ""All sales final""!! \r \r Bottom Line: Their stuff is cheap and you get what you pay for. NEVER buy anything that isn't flowering because you have no idea what you are getting. more

I have been in Houston 4 years and never bought plants. When it came time to get some for my balcony I naturally went to the place you see all over town; HOUSTON GARDEN CENTERS. I am bad with plants but wanted to get a few for my balcony with Spring almost here. I asked the manager if he could show me a few plants that would work for me, that would fit my sunlight situation and would be easy to maintain. He then had some guy who does not speak English assist me and of course this guy could not understand anything I said. So I went back to the manager, who was completely disinterested in helping me. I tried to tell him my sunlight situation and budget. He didn't really listen. Showed me two trees in the $60-100 range never even asking what kind of plants I might want or what my budget was (I didn't want trees, I wanted plants and herbs). The 3rd time I was speaking to the manager and he showed he wasn't interested I walked off and left. I will not go back to a place that treats its customers this way, especially a new customer. I can get plants just as easily at Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart or many other locations around Houston. I would recommend you do the same. Cons: Apparently they don't like customers more
