Charging for water? Seriously? 1/15/2011

Yesterday a girlfriend and I went to Kenneally's, ordered several drinks as well as pizza and when we asked for water the bartender brought us bottled water. We asked if we could have tap water instead and she explained that they have this policy of charging for water. She said it's because when it gets busy they run out of glasses. (Maybe if I brought my own plastic cup?) I used to like this place, but won't be going back to pay for water. Please. more

Perfect Guinness Pour! 4/20/2010

You'll feel like your in a neighborhood pub in NYC once you step inside this bar. The bartenders are skilled and you'll even find a shamrock on top of your Guinness. Great pizza too. Good happy hour crowd. Pros: Local feel, neighborhood bar, bartenders Cons: Parking can be hard at times more

Wonderful place 9/7/2009

Former Regular-won't be going back 6/21/2009

I used to be a regular at Kenneally's. They USED to have great service and a good atmosphere. That has since changed. I've quit going there due to my last experience. I brought a friend who was not a regular and she requested tap water. The waitress informed her she had to pay for bottled water. My friend persisted in requesting a glass of tap water; she thought the waitress was joking about paying for water. The waitress informed her their policy does not allow them to serve tap water; they consider it a waste of the bartender's time....yes, she actually said that. Then when the so-called manager came to our table to address the issue, he told my friend to quit being cheap. Needless to say, we haven’t been back and anytime someone suggests Kenneally’s, I let them know about my experience and that I won’t be going back. There are too many bars in Houston to waste time with a bar that is so money-hungry it forces bottled water on its customers and accuses its customers of being cheap. I’m actually surprised the TABC allows them to do that…….. Pros: Good pizza Cons: Bad customer service, forced to pay for water more

Agree w/those below - pizza is awesome, atmosphere lacking 5/17/2009

Have been here before, years ago, and visited the other night when we wanted some pizza and beers. The pizza was so divine, we ordered three in a row, but yes, it was very strange that they don't provide free water. Come on! Maybe I want a glass of water to go with my pizza and Stella Artois. It's not like we're scrubs coming in here to not spend on alcohol. The atmosphere is a bit lacking. Also a regular of Red Lion's, I can say that pub knows how to do ambience - it's always fun & lively in there, with the authentic pub decor and fun tunes in the background. We'd spend far more for pints at Red Lion, but we'd get some atmosphere with it. Pros: Fantastic pizza Cons: Scant parking on weekends, "meh" atmosphere more

Ruined it with one little thing! 2/21/2009

My wife and I joined friends yesterday for an evening out. The food was acceptable (the potato chips are exceptional) and the bar service quite good. However, when I pay for food, beer, and whiskey I expect complimentary tap water. The pub has a policy of not providing tap water for otherwise paying customers which really ruined an otherwise enjoyable experience. Now I realize that when one visits a pub it is usually to have a few drinks and enjoy pub food - exactly what we wanted, but I like to drink water along with my food and beer to stay hydrated and quench my thirst (beer tastes great, but is not a thirst quencher). They do offer bottled water at a very reasonable price, but that misses the point. I do not think it is too much to expect complimentary tap water when spending over $70 on the other fare. This was the first time I have ever been denied complimentary tap water in a bar and I, for one, will frequent those establishments that are not so stingy with their tap water. Great Pizza, Great Fun....if you're in the mood 8/21/2008

No doubt, this is the best thin crust pizza in the loop....and they serve it late! The owners rock. The bar rocks...it's a great place if you want to roll up your sleeves, play some darts, eat good bar food and drink cold beer. AND they have an awesome juke box. Depressing, Smokey, Overrated 5/23/2007

This place is overrated. It's true, the pizza is very good. But I've had equally good pizza elsewhere. It's always smokey, feels dirty, has rude bartenders and generally has a trashy / depressing vibe. Why would anyone opt for this place when there is Red Lion (an infinitely better pub) right across the street? Actually, all the bourgeois / depressing people, please don't cross the street. Stay where you are. Pros: pizza Cons: quality of life suffers in order to enjoy pizza more

Great place 11/1/2006

Have been out of town _new job-but finally back in Houston & am so glad to get back to the Irish Pub. I missed it!! Same friendly staff (a few new ones) but same great pizza & cold beer. I am soooo looking forward to St.Patricks Day here-it is unbeleivable!!! Great crowds-cold beer-live music-great party! (Hope "the Lion " leaves them alone) POD Pros: great food, great service no smoking,very clean-friendly staff Cons: none more

Best Pizza, beer, and service 9/21/2006

I've been in this pub many times, mostly alone, but I've never felt alone once inside. Besides the most friendly staff I've ever seen anywhere, other customers are "openly friendly." If you want to be friendly and talkative, others will join you. If you want to be alone, they will leave you alone. The pup is very secure with no hassles. I've found a nice variety of customers such as many professionals (lawyers, nurses, secretarys, sports figures, government employees), of age students, and even a few retirees all looking for just good fun, great beer (wide variety of liquor), and excellent Chicago style pizzas, plus the best mustard and sandwiches ever. Its an Irish Pub 8/22/2006

Very few know how to pour a pint of Guiness. I was exremely happy with the place. I went on St. Patty's, yes a bit pricey however Guiness and whiskey is what I drink and $5 is pretty close to normal price (for good whiskey that is). I also loved the fact they had a spot to drink something out of this ice sculpture and get a shot glass with their name on it. That helped me remember what pub I went to. The guys and I run out there every chance we get. Its a pub not a diner, expect the occasional smoke. The only thing I think to make the place better would be to have more Irish music on the Juke Box, maybe some Traditional Irish Music along with some Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphy's. I use to be a regular, grew up here and liked the pub. Now it seems to be loosing its polish, dirty bathrooms, slow service and smokey. Need to update and show some enthusiasm...waitstaff seem like zombies these days. Pizza is still good. Much nicer pubs in the area that seem to make an effort. Pros: pizza Cons: , smoke, loud more

Best Pub Pizza In Town 10/15/2002

Don't forget your bodhran! 9/1/2002

This is the best Irish pub outside of Ireland! The Guinness was poured to perfection - they actually let it sit a couple of minutes before finishing the pour. Can't rush a good thing! The live band could have been from Galway - they were spot on! Made me want to run home and get my bodhran and come back and join in! Can't give it 10 'cause it's not in Ireland. ;) Pros: Guinness, Guinness, more Guinness Cons: not in Ireland more

A heck of an Irish Bar 8/13/2002

I used to work at Kenneally's when I was 18. I will be 30 in three weeks. I still have fond memories of that place, and after I no longer worked ther, I continued to go there as a patron until I moved to Miami 2 years ago. While I worked there, I served Dusty Hill from ZZ Top and Madonna, as well as a lot of very fine Houstonians (including the lawyers). Try the Irish Pizza, it's awesome. I still crave that!. As far as other reviews go, any place can have an off night. Kennelly's is so popular sometimes, it can get really crowded. But I highly reccommend you try it out.     Though a broad selection of beer seems to be the main draw, the pizza at Kenneally's may make you thirst for a Peroni rather than a Guinness. The sauce is fresh and the crust is thin and crispy.
