This weekend I walked into a Kens Hair Braiding salon and when I left felt as though I had been sold into slavery. The owner was extremely rude, the shop was filthy, and not to mention she was not apologetic about being tardy. Mind you I drove from Carrollton to Dallas for a 9:30 appt and was seated at 9:47 a.m. It was to my dismay that the owner (Ken) walked into the shop did not apologize to customers for being tardy, did not introduce herself to first time customers, and personal appearance was something to be desired. After I was seated in the operaters chair with a few others she proceeded to chastise customers for the styles they requested and insulted a customer in her native tongue (Nigerian) which I happen to understand. One customer had been quoted $200 on the telepohone and she told her in front of everyone in a rude manner that she would have to pay $380 because she had alot of hair. Finally, I had enough when she proceeded to argue with me about the hair extensions I wanted but she did not have available with offering other options. At that moment I felt as though I had been betrayed by my own people and wanted to warn the rest of the sisters that these people were not the only ones that offered this service in Dallas and that we have a choice where we spend our money. I refuse to be treated this way as a customer by ANYONE. I feel that enough Black people do not realize the the value of their hard earned dollar and we do not have to stand for this because it is our hard earned dollars that keep these peoples money that keep the business open and thriving. I am reporting this only because we need to make Black business aware that they must adhere to all standards as any other business in order to keep the doors open. I want to be sure this does not happen to any one else.
