not worth the trip from bucks county 3/22/2009

we were recomended by many people and just had to try the restaurant. The decor was absolutely beautiful and the drinks at the gorgeous bar were great! Once we sat down, however, things were different. Our server was friendly at first, but, that quickly changed as we asked questions about the menu. When she told us that they were out of the steak entree and we expressed disappoinment because we were looking forward to ordering that, she told us we could order the ""Special"" which was a filet mignon with crab meat. (Not exactly what we wanted but it was the only other beef entree available). We don't eat seafood and when we asked our server if we could have the filet prepared without the crabmeat , she was clearly annoyed. We went back and forth trying to ""create"" a steak entree that somewhat resembled what they had run out of and all the while our server was getting more and more angry! The meal ended up being delicious, however, there was a bit of a damper because of the attitude of the server. It seemed that she really had no desire to accomdate us and frankly, I never had to work so hard to order a meal. Aside from that, everything else was delicious and the apple cobbler dessert was amazing! I am sure that had we been treated differently, the meal would've been more enjoyable! Pros: great drinks Cons: they run out of entrees more

Best dining in Philly 1/9/2009

Me and my wife went there last night for dinner. 30th Birthday. We had a reservation for 8:15PM. We arrived at 7:30PM. We were greeted at the door and told our table was ready and waiting for us. The overall service was very good throughout the dinner. The food was out of this world. Nice sized portions. You will not leave here hungry or disappointed. We started with the cream of mushroom soup and the caesar basket. The soup was at a ready to eat temperature not piping hot nor too cold. The Caesar salad came in a tortilla shell shaped in a basket with a side of crispy bread. We continued with the four cheese tortellini with smoked chicken and the pan seared salmon. Which were both perfectly prepared. Words can not do these dishes justice. They were both mind blowing. Those two entrees alone are well worth a visit. For dessert we had the white and black brulee and rose tattoo fudge brownie. Again excellent. Finally the scenary. The plants, the flowers, and the music. FANTASTIC!!!. We received a romantic table on the second floor overlooking the bar and other patrons. Highly recommended. We will be back ASAP. Pros: Excellent service, food, scenary, Cons: We had no problem. but parking could be tight. more

The BEST place in town! 12/19/2008

I have been living in this area for 4 years now and only just tried this place last weekend. It is simply amazing!! The decor is very interesting with hanging plants from the ceiling. A must try is the atlantic salmon which is to die for and the desserts which are all great! big portions too! this place has both quantity and quality. I am taking everyone I know here! Pros: Food, dessert, everything... more

Wow 12/13/2008

I met a friend of mine here this past Friday for drinks and appetizers. I love the fact The Rose Tattoo has a light fare menu. The food was amazing. We ordered the Four Cheese Tortellini, Crispy Calamari/Shrimp with mustard aioli and loster quesadilla. Our bartender was lovely. I will definitely be back. more

Great Experience!! 9/25/2008

This restaurant is absolutely wonderful. I decided to take this trip for my mother's birthday after reading the reviews and hearing my co-worker continuously rave about the food. The ambience was lovely, and the service was great as well. We were greeted by a very friendly host who showed us to our seats (upstairs on the inside balcony, where all of the flowers are). My mother ordered the Bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp for starters (delicious), and for my entree I ordered the salmon with jumbo shrimp and crabmeat (to DIE for). My boyfriend ordered the porkchop ( which was huge, tender, and flavorful). Everyone who assisted in serving us was wonderful, friendly and accomodating. All three of us enjoyed our meals and can't wait to return. I highly recommend this place!!! Pros: Beautiful atomosphere and delicious food. Cons: Nothing more

Slightly Disappointed 4/28/2008

A few people I know had been to Rose Tattoo and they were going crazy over it so I was dying to try it myself. When I made the reservation I asked if they had vegan options and they said yes. I called again to make sure because it was my daughters birthday and she doesnt eat animal products. Somehow, this request got lost because the server wasn't made aware and the chefs were clearly unprepared. They came up with an uninspired bowl of pasta with vegetables in some broth that required a fair amount of added salt. I understand that vegan isnt their specialty but I hoped with fair notice they would have come up with something special. The roasted pear salad was delicious though and they were kind enough to put together a sorbet trio for dessert, house made and refreshing. The chicken salad that I had was okay, but not intensely seasoned. The atmosphere is beautiful though, the service is great and attentive and I've heard otherwise nice things so maybe you'll have a more complete experience. If your vegan though, try again. more

Consistently Excellent 1/1/2007

We visit Rose Tattoo twice a month. It is consistenly excellent. My usual is the Four Cheese Tortellini. I declare, it's the best thing they make. You can't go wrong with specials, either. We have ordered the Cod special, or the Halibut with risotto, or the Sea Bass with seasonal vegetables. I am telling you, this place is always warm and friendly. The tables are positioned is a cozy fashion with candles lit creating such a nice ambiance. The wait staff always recognizes us and greets us professionally. We have never been made to feel like ""pain in the neck regulars"", as some restaurants convey. From the moment we enter Rose Tattoo, we are approached by a smiling face who makes every effort to accomodate us even though at times, we don't have a reservation. Pros: easy to get a table, mouth watering cuisine Cons: Tables near the smoking bar are a bit awkward more

Very Tasty 12/17/2006

This restaurant serves one of the tastiest food in Philadelphia. We did not have a reservation for a saturday night dining but we were still able to get a seat within 10 minutes which is very good. The food is just excellent. I had the pork chop and it was very juicy and tender. The service was very good and our server was attentive. The atmosphere is very nice and parking is easy. Pros: Food, Ambience, Parking Cons: Big portion - which is fine but it prevented me from ordering dessert : ) more

One of the most romantic places in Philadelphia 7/18/2006

This is a great resturant. It was recommended to me and I need to tell someone! The atmosphere is dark and candle lit - with a old New Orleans sort of flavor. The food is generous - try the three cheese ravioli! The soups are also superb. Ask for a table on the second floor (balcony). And make reservations! Pros: Great atmonsphere, easy parking, great food Cons: A little pricey more

Intriguing Decor, Fine Food, Excellent Service 2/5/2006

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here on a busy Saturday night. The bar and tables were all full but the barmaid and our waitress were both very friendly and efficient. We were seated on time and despite the crowd, the noise level was reasonable and we were easily able to converse. The wines by the bottle are a bit expensive, but there were good choices by the glass. We shared the cheddar-cauliflower soup and a pear and greens salad. They were both well-prepared and full of flavor. The entrees are large so my wife had a beef appetizer as her entree and really enjoyed it. I chose a sesame-encrusted fish special and it was also excellent. We split the fudge brownie dessert with our coffee. With three glasses of wine, the bill was under $!00 before tip. Excellent value and a fun time! Pros: food quality and vari, friendly service, good value more

WOW! 10/29/2005

If you're looking for a great meal, a date spot, a place to grab a drink...look no further! This is the spot for you. I don't even know where to begin so just look at the rating and then stop by the Rose for dinner. Pros: Food, Staff, Atmosphere more

Great Date Night 12/28/2003

My boyfriend and I went this past weekend and had a very pleasant experience. The place was recommended to us by a friend who has been to a lot of Philadelphia restaurants. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very warm - a perfect place for a date. more
